This is a compensated review by BlogHer and HP.
A few weeks ago I got an email asking if I’d be interested in reviewing a new HP TouchSmart 600 computer. And yes, I was interested, because I am a nerd and always terribly entertained by anything that plugs in and has a screen, but since I’d never seen the TouchSmart before, I had a mental image of a big, clunky desktop coming into the house. Besides that, we haven’t owned a PC in about ten years, and part of me wondered if accepting the HP was some unforgivable act of Mac betrayal.
But then I remembered the 10 year-old Mac desktop in my office (that, bless its heart, can’t run more than two applications at a time before it starts to wheeze), and I got over my reservations. BRING ON THE HP.
The new TouchSmart arrived a few days later, and y’all, I cannot tell you how impressed we have been by this computer. We love it. It looks great (do you see how skinny it is?), and when David was setting it up, I actually asked him where the rest of it was. It’s essentially the same size as a flat-screen TV. In fact, it can work as a TV – you just plug in your cable and you’re good to go. It can also work as a DVR (CAN I GET AN AMEN?) or a BluRay movie player. There’s even a remote. Be still my heart.
And I wish y’all could have seen my husband’s reaction when he realized that you can mount the TouchSmart on the wall. Suffice it to say that his eyes lit up and then glazed over and I thought for a brief moment that he might need to sit down and put his head between his knees.
We started using the TouchSmart approximately 53 seconds after we set it up, and while I didn’t know how much I’d use all the bells and whistles in our day-to-day routine, I have to say that the touchscreen features are actually my very favorite part. Besides the fact that it makes me feel like Tom Cruise in “Minority Report” when I move my finger around the screen and resize pictures and create collages and pretend like I’m some sort of technological wizard, it’s just so EASY. I can write notes, save recipes, browse the web, play a movie via our Netflix account, laugh at something on Hulu, listen to my Pandora playlist, edit photos and so much more – all without touching a keyboard or a mouse. The computer HAS a keyboard and a mouse, of course (they’re wireless!), and you can use them with any of the TouchSmart applications – but once you get the hang of the touchscreen, it’s oh-so-convenient and fun.
I really could go on and on – about how Alex loves it, about how the touchscreen is COMPLETELY intuitive for a child, about how I adore the Recipe Box feature that lets me add any recipe I happen to run across on the web and will even READ THE RECIPE OUT LOUD TO ME while I cook. But I’m going to quit talking now because we need to get this giveaway started. I think it’s time.

Well we live in a smallish apartment so it would go over in the dining nook. And boy would it look great there.
I would love to put this in my office… but I am still waiting on my husband to have time to build my shelving and desk in there… so for now it would be in my room.

This computer looks amazing. AMAZING. Please pick me for this. My husband and I are both college students, and BOTH of our computer have recently died (his has a fried motherboard, mine has an inoperable OS). We really need a working computer to finish up our schooling and we cannot afford to fix our computers or to get a new one. We are not exchanging extravagant gifts this year to save money, and I would love to get to tell him he gets this amazing new computer! If we won I would put it in the corner of our family room, since thats pretty much the only room that we have here in this college apartment!

We thought we’d lose him shortly after he was born, so we decided to take him home and he thrived for 44 days where he learned about the love of his family. He then passed away in our arms on Nov. 27th, 2009. He is such a blessing to so many. I have kept a blog since before my pregnancy & without having intentions, I have inspired many to come unto Christ or to get through their loss. I continue to blog and keep my journal open to the world. I have been asked to write a book by many and I would love this computer to help me meet that goal! I want to help other and it helps me. I would put it in the den so that my elderly mother (who lives with me) does not have to climb the stairs to check her email, play solitare, or (yes!) check her Facebook page. Her knee is blown, and she refuses to have surgery. She checks the upstairs computer in the morning, before she comes down stairs, and in the evening, when she goes back upstairs. How cool it would be if she could check the computer whenever she wanted, without having to climb stairs and then hurt for some time afterward.

I’m opening a small store, Casa Artelexia, in downtown San Diego and could really use a computer to keep track of inventory, place orders and website maintenance. My husband watches lots of TV in our family room. Sports, sports and more sports. Well, normally I would say I’d put a computer on the desk in the living room, but this computer is so beautiful and compact that I just might hide it in my room and not let anyone else touch it! But that would be selfish. So I’ll leave it on the desk we share so everyone can enjoy it!

Well, I *think* it would go in my kitchen ON MY WALL where I had easy access to it during the day when I’m homeschooling the kids…it would make it easy to do a quick check of email, for them to research stuff right there…love it!
We have a little desk in the kitchen and I think I would put it there. I could use it for work there, but my 6 year old could also use it there while I cook dinner Yes, I think it would look lovely there.
First, I would jump up and down and shout out “Horray! I won! I never win anything and now finally I won! Yippeeeee!” I would then pack it up in my car and cart it over to my classroom where I would use it to make my work life a whole lot easier! The whole thing would be sweet.
