Just Like The Snow When A Ray Of Sun Is Felt

It’s the strangest thing, but this song has been on my mind all day long.

The strangest thing.

Not to mention that this little nugget-o-wisdom is still running on repeat in my brain: “Love is more powerful than flying.”

Yes. Yes it is.

Anyway, I’ve decided to hold off on any sort of regular “Bachelor” re-caps for now. Don’t get me wrong: I want to write VERY LONG posts about it – but I feel like I need to see how the season pans out. And I’ll just leave it at that.

In other news, it’s supposed to snow in Birmingham Thursday, so I have been furiously checking our ABC station’s weather blog to see if they’ve gotten the graphics department in on the action yet. I’m thinking that by midday tomorrow we’ll be seeing either WINTER STORM ALERT ’10 or WINTER STORM WATCH ’10 all over our local news. Maybe even WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY ’10 – with a big piece of cracking ice in the background. IT MAKES ME SO HAPPY.

Since Alabama is playing Texas for the National Championship Thursday night, some people on one of our local sports radio shows have been VERY VOCAL INDEED that they will not – WILL NOT – tolerate any sort of local weather bulletin that interrupts the football game. They’re not kidding around. Because why does it matter if the roads are icy if the Tide is rollin’? I’d go so far as to say that if even a half a centimeter of the WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY ’10 graphic partially obscures the logo on Nick Saban’s shirt, ABC had better run for cover.

I mean, would Bear Bryant tolerate any sort of weather-related game-watching distractions? I THINK NOT.

Of course I’m cheering for Alabama in the game – it’s an SEC school playing for the National Championship, for heaven’s sake – and I’m curious: will you be cheering for either team? Or will you be hoping and praying for a “House Hunters” marathon on HGTV? And are any of y’all cooking a special menu for the game? We’ll definitely be eating tailgate food for supper at our house Thursday night.

IT’S THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

Well, being from Paris, TN and all and having a daddy who has always printed off ALL bowl games for the season so that the family could get in on the statistics of keeping up with SEC wins… I can hear him saying, “Christy… you ALWAYS cheer for the SEC in ANY competition outside of the SEC.” However, this is a tough one for me… I have lived in Abilene, TX, home to the ugly burnt orange fake UT quarterback Colt McCoy for the last 10 years. (We all know my true blood orange is for only the REAL UT… Go VOLS!!)He is a great Christian young man (having led several teammates to Christ) with a great Christian family, soooooo I’m trying to be Switzerland and all… Go team!

  2. Sorry Sophie, but… Hook ’em Horns!!!

  3. I will be pulling for the Tide. They are an SEC team and it would be great to see one of our teams the National Champs for the third year in a row.
And my family would be really upset if I didn’t.

  4. That’s a toughie – I went to an SEC school, so I feel compelled to back Bama, but I’m Texan by birth and by the grace of God, so, yeah, there’s that.

Maybe I’ll sing On the Wings of Love and not watch any of it.

  5. Yay, no school tomorrow in Shelby County! I love that they cancel in advance of one single flake. haha!

We’re having hot wings, chips, salsa, and guac. Yum!! ROLL TIDE! I am so excited!! If this would have happened last year or earlier, we’d have went to Pasadena. Not this year.

  6. You know, we have moved from “SEVERE WEATHER” warnings issued by the Met Office to “EXTREME WEATHER” warnings here. As someone who lives in Scotland said last night, up north is it simply ” a little snow” and down south, EXTREME weather. Give me strength. This, by the way is the same Met Office who forecast a blazingly hot summer (where???) and a mild winter. Hahahahahahahahahaha.

The one thing they did get right though was the COLD.

  7. Quietly cheering for Texas – not emotionally involved in either -won’t be watching the game and thank you for not delving into the Bachelor – I’m half ashamed they are already sensationalizing a Texas man who claims to have priority of God, Family and Friends – hmmmmm
Anyhow – enjoy the tailgate food and whichever team wins – hope it is a great game with no serious injuries.

  8. Sorry – I can never cheer for Nick Saban – what a weenie!

  9. I don’t know if this LSU fan can cheer for Alabama. I think I have to pull for Texas. We shall see….

That song! OMG…..it was somebody’s “lerve” song on Days of our Lives back in the day. I want to say Bo and Hope but it could have been Frankie and Jennifer. Not sure about it, but it took me back to my overpermed hair high school/LSU days. Thanks BooMama…thanks indeed!

  10. I’m a Nittany Lion/Joe Pa fan. Our bowl game is over, and they were victorious in the mud. I’m done.

  11. GO BAMA! ROLL TIDE!!
We here in LA (that’s lower Alabama for those playing along) will of course be cheering for the Tide. I’ll be having tailgate food for the game as well. We’re not from Alabama originally, but of course we have to cheer with the rest of the state.

  12. Jennifer says:

WHAAAT??!! Just got back from a trip to Jackson, and on this very same day, driving across I-20, Jeffrey Osborne’s “Woo Woo Song” was stuck in my brain. Was he sending out some crazy 1980s smooth love ballad vibes that day or something? All I know is, I now feel compelled to fortify my love (per Jeffrey’s instructions). And somewhere there’s an FM station playing the Friday Night Quiet Storm (insert rumbling thunder here) programming…and I must find it.

  13. 1)The most I know about football is the touchdown dance my 5-yr-old grandson loves to imitate. Sorry. It’s a bad reaction to all the TV sports we kids were exposed to while growing up.

    2) What I’m REALLY sorry about is not having a Bachelor recap to savor. There is sooo much good material on which you could be honing your razor-sharp wit and brightening our days. Relent soon. Please!!
