I’m Fresh Out Of Titles

So right now it’s about 9:00 Sunday night, and apparently we’re under some sort of winter weather warning and SUPPOSEDLY getting more snow tomorrow.

SUPPOSEDLY.

Oh, I am doubtful and jaded where snow-related forecasts are concerned.

But then again – there was Friday.

And Friday – well, it was glorious.

Y’all will be happy to know that we finally rounded up a real-live sledding apparatus (thanks to our next door neighbors). The belly-flop-on-the-ground method got a little chilly after awhile, so it was nice to be able to sled a little more official-like. We’re just not very well-practiced in all the world’s fayncee sledding methods, you understand.

ANYWAY, I am cautiously optimistic that tomorrow will bring us some more beautiful winter weather. The snow is such a treat for us, not to mention that I totally forgot to make snow cream on Friday and would really, really like to make some snow cream before this winter is over.

(Did I just set a goal?)

(I DID! I JUST SET A GOAL!)

Now. Three quick things. Completely unrelated to the (POTENTIAL) Winter Weather Event. But totally related to television, WHY DO YOU LOOK SO SURPRISED?

1) This afternoon I finally got to watch the season premiere of “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains,” and oh my word that was two solid hours of quality TV viewing. I love the premise – it’s so fun to be able to jump right in with contestants we already “know.” In fact, I think that every single episode should be two hours long. And I know that’s a time commitment – especially on TV-heavy Thursday night – but I AM UP FOR THE CHALLENGE, OH YES I AM.

B) “The Amazing Race”? Yes, please.

III) I could watch the Winter Olympics pretty much non-stop for the rest of my life and maybe on into eternity. It’s something about all the pretty snow, the bright colors of the uniforms (this morning I mistakenly called them “costumes” and may have been been teased once or six times as a result), the big ski jumps, the fast mogul races and, well, every single bit of it. I’m having a hard time figuring out who belongs to which country because NBC has created flag graphics for the bottom of the screen that are practically microscopic (and I’m sure my inability to see them has nothing – NOTHING – to do with my eyesight, I’M CERTAIN OF IT), but other than that, I’m delighted that it’s Olympics time again.

That is all. Now I’m going to catch up on the skiing and speed skating and make sure I get a good look at everybody’s cute costumes.

Have a great Monday, everybody!

  1. I was so sad to wake up and see the sun! My hubby just called and said that the roads are very icy and he saw 7 wrecks between Vestavia and the Bass Pro exit. Be careful out there today!

  2. Amen to Survivor! I love that we know them. I loved having a two hour show. Could they please do that every week? Enjoy your snow. I sure hope we don’t get any more.

  3. I’m with you – saved me time to already know all the contestants on Survivor and know who I like and don’t. We literally put ‘Start of Survivor’ on our calendar because we have such an active social life.

  4. I wish I had your attitude about the snow. We live with it for 5 months here in Wisconsin and I am ready for it to go away.

I agree with you on Survivor. I have it recorded and still haven’t found the time to watch it!

  5. Enjoy the snow, but be SURE to make snowballs and keep them in your freezer. They will be LOADS of fun in August when it is hotter than blazes. My kids always loved that! Have fun (and don’t forget the hot chocolate!)

  6. Snow Cream?!? I need the recipe for that.

  7. We had out first big snow (5 to 7 inches) in 8 years. It was a blast. I did make snow cream. It’s in the freezer hard as a rock because everyone wasn’t ready to eat it when I made it at 9:00 in the morning. Imagine that.

  8. I SO agree about Survivor and oh my goodness Amazing Race has potential this year. Not so much on Olympics – we’ve been wintered over under and too much this year – I’d like more programs set in tropical climates! Glad y’all are enjoying the snow and potential of more snow and any excuse for a good cuppa hot chocolate!

  9. What is this snow cream everyone is talking about? I’m thinking our recent move to Colorado and abundance of snow necessitates this knowledge. Although I’m not sure the 1 degree temps this morning are great motivation…

  10. I recently started reading your blog and you crack me up! I´m originally from northern Iowa, so I know what SNOW (and lots of it!) is, but I am at a loss for what snow cream is?! Please enlighten the rest of us!

  11. snow cream –
    whole milk or cream
    sugar
    vanilla
    snow

mix first three together and then add snow to desired thickness. sorry i do not have measurement, but it depends on the amount of snow you have. enjoy!! i introduced this to all my friends up here in ohio and boy where they happy.

  12. oh my and this is why i love ya so:)

love every single thing you mentioned!

we are getting slammed here in cinci with the snow:) i like it:)

i love jordan and jeff on amazing race…

i love the canadian mogul skier guy who won gold for his handicapped brother..tears r us!!

  13. Soooo jealous of the snow. Please send some to Florida!! This girl is so deprived!!! :)

  14. I LOVE snow cream! Living in MD, I grew up with stuff.

I’m glad your son could enjoy the fun of snow.

  15. So…did you get snow? Nothing makes me happier than watching big flakes falling outside my windows! :-)

My husband and I were finally able to catch Survivor late last night. I just love the premise, too!!! I mean–to have Rupert (I call him Rupie), Tom, JT, and James all on the same team? And Boston Rob, Russell, and the DRAGON SLAYER on a team??? Good t.v. drama, that is. LOVE it.

  16. Look at you and your goals! Mine usually consist of ‘make certain DVR is recording….’

And The Amazing Race? Oh my! And that darling girl from the beauty contest, Miss The Irag & such as, is a contestant! She’s pretty darling and southern and possibly not as challenged as her response to the map question led us to believe. (How’s that for a sentence?)

Robyn & I have said we’re going to send in an application for The Amazing Race (TAR?). But Robyn wants to win and I just want to go hang out at Hibernation Station.

  17. I am going to LOVE Survivor this season. I’m with you. The Heroes vs. Villians is a great way to get all of our favorites on an island again.

And we enjoyed Amazing Race last night. It is too early to say who might win, but I am loving the 71 year-old grandma and granddaughter.

(And you’re right. The athletes are wearing costumes. They are too pretty to be called uniforms.)

  18. Costumes…

I made the mistake of calling my son’s basketball uniform his basketball “outfit”.

Just one more reason why it is best for a boy to have a Mom AND a Dad.

A Dad would never call a uniform an “outfit” and, as I found out, it is grounds for an eye-rolling.

  19. I was so hopeful but doubtful last night when they forecasted 2-4 inches of snow. My husband who is more trusting of weathermen, was ready to go to bed without the alarm on. I not so trusting, set the alarm. Good thing because we got nothing!

Nothing, just more cold! I hope you fare better!

  20. Note to Austin, Texas: You are not getting your fair share of this white stuff that everyone else in the country seems to be reaping. Time is running out with spring around the corner…maybe I should just drive up to BooMama country (and watch out for that BassPro exit the first commenter graciously warned us about!)

  21. Snow cream one can of sweetened condensed milk add snow and milk until you get the desired consistancy. I have a container in the freezer for my daughter when she visits.

  22. Doesn’t this season’s survivor look awesome? I can’t wait to see the next episode!

  23. I LOVE…LOVE the Olympics! I DVR everything on tv so I wont miss it and then try to listen to the news so I dont accidentally hear who won! I just love rooting for the under-dog and was very happy for Canada when they finally won gold.
    GO USA!

  24. I agree with on Survivor!! Cannot wait until this week’s episode.

  25. Love me some Survivor!!!!!!! Hard to decide who I want to win this one…I love “almost” everyone on it!

  26. I told my husband last night that the U.S. mens’ downhill skiers “outfits” look like Christmas pajamas. He agreed!

  27. No snow here…but I did learn to make snow cream when I lived in exile, uh, Philly. My neighbor shared her wisdom with me…and her son gave great advice…”Don’t use yellow snow.” (ewwwwww)

    Jane (artfully graced)

  28. Friday was glorious here, too (Georgia). Loved it! Missed the forecasted snow today, but that’s OK. We’ve finally had a good snow! Hope you get a chance to make snow cream.

  29. I live in TN but am from the north and am LOVING the snow this year… on this I think I may be alone… I get a little giddy when I wake up and find out the weather man didn’t lie… but sometimes he does… it’s a love hate thing…

I agree about survivor… I was hooked in the opening scene on the helicopters…

I am completely and hopelessly hooked on the Olympics… The TV has rarely run for so many hours strait… I love the scenes and in a moment of Olympic propaganda rapture declared to my husband I wanted to move to BC… he calmly looked over his book and said “no you don’t.” That was it… and he is right, but this week I think I do, just a little…

  30. Leanne from Canada says:

Too bad you can’t join us in Vancouver for the Olympics. We could borrow some of your snow!! For those that are tired of the white stuff….Vancouver is the place to be (almost t-shirt weather yesterday afternoon). Walking the streets of Vancouver last evening when Canada won the gold in men’s moguls was a fantastic memory!! You must visit our fair city sometime!!

  31. I love the Olympics too…hmm…I think I may have used the word costume once or twice. In the UK everyone refers to their swimsuit as their bathing costume so I think we’re okay. The bright white snow mixed with all the colors makes me happy. And the winter athletes all look so healthy…all that outdoor exercise I guess. I probably should do that more.

  32. Okay, hilarious!! I’m saying this with the greatest amount of affection… but only you Americans could take SNOW and make a sweet and delicious (and unhealthy) FOOD out of it! LOL!

I’m writing from northern Alberta, Canada, where that snow you love falls in October and doesn’t leave until April. I am so over it.

Awesome to hear you love the Olympics! BC (my home province) has been bankrupting future generations to bring you one week of great costumes and television! ;) Vancouver is a very beautiful city – with barely any snow. Right on the ocean the climate is mild. I recommend a visit sometime.

  33. Oh, I am right there with you!!! I have loved the little bit of snow we’ve had this winter and love watching anything snowy on t.v…. even in mario cart, i make my kids play the ice tracks over and over
