All righty. I just finished watching the American Idol Top 24 selection show, and I have SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT SOME THINGS.
1. I was so glad they moved the final panel with the judges to the stage. Because remember how everybody used to have to travel upstairs via a very cramped elevator? That made me nervous.
(Other things that make me nervous: phone calls with someone whose TV is playing very loudly in the background, the grocery store the day before Thanksgiving, people who won’t quit talking during a movie and the mere thought of not being on time. Clearly I’m COMPLETELY NORMAL.)
2. Loved the long tunic with the ruffled sleeves that Kara was wearing during the final panel. Sassy.
3. So far this season has been WAY better than last season. There seem to be a lot more musicians, and I love that. Because I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before, but I very much enjoy a singer/songwriter who can simultaneously sing and just bang it out on the acoustic guitar/piano/harpsicord/whathaveyou.
4. Also so far: no Paula-stalgia from me. She was always very encouraging to the kids, but it seems like the guest judges and Ellen have filled that void pretty nicely (with the exception of Avril Lavigne, who seemed to favor a slight scowl). It’s been nice not to listen to Paula and Simon bicker. That part of the show was never enjoyable to me.
5. I like so many of the contestants this year – Mike Lynche, Lilly Scott, Andrew Garcia, Crystal Bowersox, etc. But if I were to take a stab at who will be the fan favorite for 2010? Here’s my winner (I have no idea what that website of the bottom of the video is, so surf to that corner of the web at your own risk):
Sing it, Casey James.
Of course, you should probably take my prediction with a grain of salt seeing as how last year I’d never even noticed Kris Allen before the Top 24. So I obviously have deep wells of untapped giftedness in the field of talent scouting.
Who do y’all like so far?

See, I *loved* the elevator part! I was mega-disapointed to see it was different.
I like Casey and a handful of others, but no one really seems like a huge star to me yet.
I don’t miss Paula either, but also don’t think that Ellen has really done much of anything. And I am not a huge Kara fan. I just can’t figure her out.
Yeah, what was UP with Avril? Blah!
Hi BooMama! This is my third day to blogging (hey, great name for a band!)and I am ecstatic! This is exactly what I’ve been searching for. I love today’s blog. That guy is great but I really wanted to tell you that Amy of Beloved told me about your blog (she’ my sister) and I can’t wait to share a laugh with you.
I’ll try not to stalk but I will be back!

I don’t miss Paula either. At all. And I think I’m going to love Ellen.
My fave so far is Andrew Garcia. The very first time I heard him sing I got chills all up and down my spine. And then that “Straight Up” rendition–oh my! He’s going to go far, I think.
I also liked Casey, but not the fact that he took off his shirt at his audition. That’s the only thing I have against him (even though Kara asked him to).
I also like the guy (forgot his name) who sang his own rendition of Paula’s “Straight Up”. Very risky, and he sooooo pulled it off.
I thought they made some mistakes though. I would have liked to see the girl with the crooked smile go through to the Top 24. Again, I’m not good with names, but she was very good and she left an impression on me. And I would have liked to see the guy whose Mama was with him the whole time. He was the last one with the “Straight Up” fella. You know who I mean, hopefully.
:)
I agree – this season is much better than last so far. And I love Ellen. Not missing Paula at all.
So far, my favorites are Andrew Garcia, Janelle, and Didi. I have no idea who will win…yet.
I.CANNOT.WAIT!
Although, I can predict a few stinkers that they threw in just to be easy kick offs. Did I mention that I cant wait?!?!
All that stuff that Trish said.
Oh how I love American Idol!!! And I love that you talk about it on here. It’s too early for me to make any predictions or pick a favorite. I actually can’t even remember who is who yet (the mind isn’t what it used to be and I’m only 36…I’m in trouble!!!) Anyway…I hate to admit it but I’m not missing Paula either…wonder how it will be next year without Simon?????
I’m so glad we’re finally to the top 24. I just wrote in my blog about how tired I am of all the talking. I think the contestants look good and I’m excited for the music. It seems like they didn’t want us to see too much in the auditions.
I’m looking forward to a good season… I love the show!
Love the guy with the tattoo on his neck. Not enough to know his name, but I think it’s the Andrew Garcia one, but I could be wrong. You know- he did Paula’s song and rocked it.
And (at the risk of offending a whole cultural group) the Hispanic girl who has a very striking appearance.
Loving Ellen, so far and I completely agree about Kara’s shirt (Kaaaaah- Raaahhhh). Adorable.
Avril was just wrong- esp. with those horns on. Really? Satan’s mignon, for sure.
Yep. Casey is a winner!
While I do think the Casey has a lovely voice and will undoubtedly go far. I have to say that *Tim Urban*, who has not gotten his share of airtime, is my favorite.
It may bee because he is goes to my church, and is a friend of my boys, and is just a doll who loves the lord in real life. And he has 8 siblings. And he said in his interview the thing he’ll miss the most being gone is his mama’s cooking. Who could not love that?? Oh, and he can SING. I’ve heard him. In my very own church.
oo i love me some american idol…but i am not fan of cara’s …
i do enjoy ellen …
i think the producers want us to love casey james…hes good but i cant wait to hear the other singers..especially the ones we dont really know their stories etc…..
I like Casey and Big Mike! But, there are a lot of good girls too!
I don’t miss Paula, she kind of confused me about what the heck she was talking about sometimes. I enjoy Ellen’s humor, so far.
The Park Wife
The hippie girl and Big Mike – I love both of them!!
I think Shelby should have been in the top 24…
My fave is Crystal with the dreadlocks (that is certainly not why LOL) but I like her spirit and her voice!
I’m pretty impressed with Casey James also. But slightly ahead of him, for me, is Crystal Bowersox. She’s just so unassuming and a natural talent – when she sings I want to hear more! Lots of talent this year overall. And I LOVE Ellen; think she’s a great addition.
I just posted my favorites on my blog:
shawna-mygirls.blogspot.com
Okay, I’ll just tell you: Lilly Scott and Tyler Grady.
Don’t miss Paula or the bickering her and Simon do either. Wish the girl with crooked smile got through, did you hear Simon say they made a mistake not putting her through? The girl with the big white streak in her bangs I thought should have gone through instead of Haeley Vaughn. Love Katie Stevens, the one who’s Grandma has Alzheimers. But I was really upset to see that a handful of the kids didn’t get any kind of back story whatsoever.
First of all, I love your enthusiasm for Idol! :) I feel the same way! My fave is Andrew Garcia, and I like DiDi too. I also liked Big Mike from the beginning. But I heard on the radio a few weeks ago (could be a rumor though!) that he gets kicked off the show right after the Top 24 is announced b/c he leaks the fact that he made it. SO SAD if that’s really true! I hope not though b/c I really like him!
John Park, hands down. The show has a history of highlighting Asian-American guys who embarrass themselves on national television (William Hung, anyone?). I love seeing Asian-Americans who can really sing on the show.
Sarah…I heard that Mike did leak that he made it…but also heard they were gonna let him stay..
Not a fan of Cara…nope not at all…too pushy for me!
I am with you.I thought
Love love love this guy. I also love the hispanic dude with the thick black glasses.
This becomes my favorite part of the show.
Love me some AI. I’m a singer wannabe.
Andrew and Crystal are my faves. I do like Casey, Katie and Tim Urban too though =) oh and Didi! Not too many! =)
I love Andrew Garcia. But more importantly, I knew I loved you, Boo, but now I know why: I too think that being late is akin to a bad case of the hives. At least, that’s what happens to me when my two youngin’s make me late…
Thanks for Idoling this year!
Andrew Garcia. Hands down. Booya.
I think I already mentioned this, but I might have already joined his fan page. And not in a “I have a crush” way, but in a “that boy can SANG” way.
My kids are pulling for Big Mike. I like the girl with her hair dyed silver (though I’m hoping she’ll switch to a more flattering color).
Big Mike.
All over me some Big Mike to win it.
but I love Casey too.
and the young girl with the grandma with Alzheimers.
yes, those 3 are my favorites.
that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
(re the guest judges… loved them all except for Mary J and Avril… they both scowled too much)
I love me some Casey, but I also love that Didi girl. And also, I adored Kara’s shirt too!
I’m not really a Casey fan. I like the blues guitar but I just don’t love him for some reason.
My favorites, in random order:
Andrew
Didi
Crystal
Lilly
I’m not saying these are my favorites for the winner, just personal style! Love these guys! These are the kinds of artists whose albums I buy. (And yes, I’m a guitarist, so that probably informs my taste!)
Otherwise, I think Siobhan, Katie, and Ashley have great voices. A few of the Top 24 have flown under my radar so I might be missing some
My 10-year-old likes Alex Lambert and Aaron Kelley (Aaron has a natural gift; wow, that boy can sing!). He also thinks more highly of Big Mike than I do. Just not a fan!
We both love Todrick, too. He’s hella funny. Can I say hella? We liked Jermaine from day one but I’m not sure how far he’ll make it. So much talent this year!
I am with you on #4. (The bickering made me very uncomfortable.)
But I could not disagree with you more on #2. My husband and I joked about how horrible that shirt was throughout the entire episode. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose!
Ok. She’s gotten nearly ZERO screen time, but y’all should definitely be looking for Paige Miles. She’s a sweet sweet girl that goes to my church. She’s the only one of the 24 that they haven’t showed singing. :( We just want to get the word out about her since no one has a “connection” with her yet. It doesn’t seem quite fair that they haven’t shown her story or at least given America the chance to hear her sing!!
I liked Kara’s top, too.
They actually didn’t show Kris Allen til the Top 24 last year…all his Hollywood week stuff and his original audition had copyright issues…so he didn’t really even get shown until the Top 24 started!!! So you didn’t miss him after all! (He is from our hometown so we knew what was happening!)
Screaming!!! I LOVED Casey!!! Loved his voice and he’s just a little bit fun to look at. Just sayin… Told Brad I’d vote for him every week! Oh we are so in tune! haha
TOTALLY TOTALLY AGREE!!! I loved him in his audition even! There is so much talent this year!
I agree this guys is good, I of course cant remember the name of the guys that I have pick at the winner or at least the top three…but he was the last one they picked. When he sang that Paula Abdul song it was amaaaazing!
