So I was going to do my normal “Office” post, but tonight’s episode made me sad. The Michael / Donna stuff, the Dwight / Angela stuff, the Andy feeling hurt stuff – sad, sad, sad.
Seriously. Even though MIchael did the right thing in the end, that was the single most depressing episode of “The Office” I can remember.
But it did make me laugh when Darryl said, “We have a place. A restful location.”
And the good news is that Jon Hamm is on tonight’s “30 Rock.”
I’m hoping there will be a little bit of happy there.

I think it was the writers’ attempt at character balance, so to speak.
The sound effects suggestion for when things get awkward was brilliant.
Geesh, I KNOW!!!
Awkward & painful, but not in a good way.
I’m liking the Sabre guy more. Thankfully they’re just bringing him out little by little, not dousing us like they did with Erin.
Couldn’t agree with you more.. it made me sad, and it made me mad. Not my favorite episode. I think I’m going to go back and watch again on the DVR, I must have missed something!!
Do you watch Real Housewives of NY? Oh my.
Luckily, Friday Nite Lights is back on NBC!
I’m telling you, you’ve got to watch Parks and Recreation. HILARIOUS! Plus, Rob Lowe was on last night. Community is also very good. And neither of them was depressing like The Office.
The Office is just making me sad altogether lately. The Sabre guy is funny though. I agree with Beth, Parks and Rec is so good! I never watched it until this season but it really is funny. I think they should send Dwight there! Community is good too!
I was actually saying out loud, “Don’t do it, Michael! He won’t do it. He has a conscience.” So I was glad that he broke up with her. But yeah, the Dwight/Angela stuff was annoying, I felt bad for how tired Pam and Jim were, and I was shocked how out of control the “shooting three people through the neck” discussion got. That got un-funny REAL fast – and didn’t ever return to funny.
After a day of dealing with a barfing 2 year old I retired early to my bed for some quality time with the TV (sorry hubby) and caught the end of The Office- live (which at least the past 5 episodes are collecting dust on the DVR) and was totally confused and thought it seemed really crude. HOWEVER, 30 Rock made me smile. Jon Hamm was GREAT, as always, in anything he does. Maybe The Office is back logged on the DVR for a reason…Sad.
The restful location was gold. Much of the show was a little depressing though. Especially as I look forward to doing the newborn thing again this fall, watching Pam & Jim fall asleep wasn’t so funny for me. Too real.
i just found your blog i love that u talk about the office and 30 rock!
It was a bit sad, wasn’t it?
Because of personal heartbreak involving an affair in my own family, I find infidelity storylines hard to watch. I couldn’t watch Grey’s Anatomy passed the first season because of it. It’s not the subject matter itself so much as the cavalier way in which it is treated. So yeah – last night’s episode was definitely not a favorite.
But on the other hand, we did get to see some complex character development with Michael. But on the OTHER other hand, I don’t exactly tune in to The Office for engaging character development, ifyaknowwhatimean. I mean for complex character development, I have other go-to shows . . . like Glee, for example.
*wink*
Hopefully, the Office ship will redirect after this episode. I will have to say Dwight on the microwave had me laughing outloud…
Glee? Talk about glorification of infidelity! They want you to root for the teach to divorce his wife and marry the other teacher. I love the show but hate that aspect.
I, too, encourage you to watch Community! Total laugh-out-loud silliness. This week included an homage to “Good Will Hunting” and sabotage with the Spanish teacher. Seriously funny stuff. As for The Office – I can see how it was definitely trying to develop character this week, but it made me really not like Michael. More because in the past I believed he was a good guy deep down and always tried to do the right thing, but not on this episode. However..maybe they are setting him up for really finding his true love. One that won’t be self-destructing. And I’m stuck on the show – it will take a lot more than one depressing episode to make me stop watching. *sigh*
Just spent the evening catching up on your blog. Haven’t visited you for a while and forgot how much I missed LAUGHING! Also makes me smile that you love the Dillion Panthers and David Platt. Out here in Oregon, no one gets how delicious and wonderful they both are!
I just think they’re leaning a little too hard on the male/female relationship thing for story lines. Eventually if you’re focused on that, you’re going to trip into areas that become too bawdy or painfully relatable to be knee-slappingly funny. I don’t need a long cathartic SIGH at the end of every episode, that’s for soap operas and dramas and heaven knows there are enough of those. They need a road trip or some more corporate bedevilment to join forces against.
Also, yes, the Sabre guy is a gold mine. Let’s just not give him an office romance!
I keep my DVR pretty busy on Thursdays. The Office has always been my FAVORITE show of the night, but this week it came in 4th. After Community, Parks and Rec and 30 Rock. This was, I believe, my least favorite episode of The Office, yet. I was just so crass.
Hopefully, this whole printer-catching-fire thing will give us some good laughs and we can get back to the good, old stuff!
