This is a compensated review by BlogHer and Pop-Tarts.
I have to admit that when I first heard about the new Pop-TartsĀ® Ice Cream ShoppeTM Vanilla Milkshake flavor of Pop-Tarts, I was intrigued. After all, we love the Pop-Tarts in our house. Our little guy wouldn’t eat anything except Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop-Tarts for breakfast when he was three, and I personally have a soft spot for the Pop-Tarts-as-dessert option. So needless to say, the Vanilla Milkshake variety sounded promising.
And do you know what? They are TASTY. The combination of the pastry crust and the vanilla flavor makes for a Pop-Tart that reminds me, honestly, of a really flavorful pie crust. That’s not to say that the Vanilla Milkshake flavor wouldn’t be great for breakfast or for a snack (I have a seven year-old who will vouch for the snack-time deliciousness), but the first time I tried it I thought, “Ooooooh – this would be so good as the crust for a dessert.”
And that, my friends, is how Vanilla Milkshake Sundae Pie was born.
It’s so simple to make – and the kids in your life will clap their hands when you brighten up their 4th of July with this special dessert treat.
Okay. They may not really clap their hands. But they’ll love you forever. And that is even better.
Pop-Tarts Vanilla Milkshake Sundae Pie
4 Vanilla Milkshake Pop-Tarts
2 pints vanilla ice cream (any flavor would work, actually), softened
1 pint fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
1 container chocolate syrup
1 container Reddi-Whip (optional)
Arrange Pop-Tarts in bottom of 8×8 casserole dish (you’ll have about a half of a Pop-Tart left – I like to sample the leftover half, purely in the interest of quality control, you understand). Spread ice cream on top and smooth out to make a level surface. Cover and return to freezer for 10 minutes. Remove from freezer, then cover with strawberries in whatever pattern you’d like. Drizzle with chocolate syrup. Cut and serve, then squirt a little Reddi-Whip on top. Makes 8-10 servings.
Oh, it is festive. Look!

Granted, I was in a little bit of a hurry when I made this one, but I think it was a hit with the family, don’t you?

Chilled watermelon or possibly a strawberry shortcake . . something that is cool and not too heavy!
Red, white and blueberry pie (strawberries, blueberries and white chocolate). BTW, I was amused because I happened to be eating a blueberry poptart when I clicked on this post. Not interesting, I know, but I was amused :)

Strawberry-kiwi “salsa” with cinnamon-sugar tortilla chips
Ice cream with a side of brownie. Or, a brownie with a side of ice cream. It’s a versatile recipe…
A flag cake made with frruit on a pie crust out of a can and cream cheese icing :)
My aunt always makes a flag cake (one year she put sparklers on it- not a good idea. We had to pick metal pieces off the cake).
My daughters and I am the masters of the flag slice and bake cookies!!
homemade ice cream!!
Something cool and easy . . .
I’m always a big fan of spreading newspaper on a picnic table and tearing open a watermelon…seed spitting contest to follow, of course.
Oh, I love me some strawberry shortcake! And cold watermelon.
I also make the most darling watermelon-shaped sugar cookies that are cute but, as my mom would say, a lot of truckin’, especially since it’s basically just a sugar cookie and I’ve yet to find a delectable sugar cookie recipe.
The 4th always screams watermelon to me!
I’m a sucker for the watermelon shaped ice cream “cake” things… Mmmmm…
Good old vanilla homemade ice cream. Plain. And some watermelon on the side!
Homemade vanilla ice cream made with a 1/4 or a cup of genuine Mexican vanilla!! ;)

Delicious strawberry shortcake with a side of homemade ice cream. A girl can never have too much desert!
berry cobbler! yum!
Strawberry Shortcake Supreme. It’s a glorious concoction with a base of a plain vanilla cake in a 13X9 pan, then a layer of that wonderful cream cheese/powdered sugar/cool whip stuff, then a layer of the Shoney’s Strawberry Pie glaze filled with sliced strawberries. Mmm, Mmm…make you slap your granny!
Anything with blueberries and/or strawberries gets my vote!

Mmmmmm. Homemade strawberry ice cream. Hope I win!
My favorite 4th of July recipe is pretty simple, kind of lame, but really yummy. Cut up a whole bunch of fresh strawberries and mix with a whole bunch of fresh blueberries. Top each serving with a bit of whipped cream. Yum.
We love to have brownies and chocolate chip cookies along with vanilla ice cream. Home made is best, but basically any ice cream will do!!
Strawberry Pretzel Salad! Mmmmmm!
Chocolate Eclair Cake. Mmmmm. In fact, I might need to test this recipe out before the fourth, just to be sure I remember how to make it.
Hmmm, my favorite dessert is strawberry jello pretzel salad. Mmmmm, delicious! So cool and creamy and sweet and salty..and very patriotic with the red and the white. I spose you could add some blueberries in there to make it completely patriotic:)
Fresh strawberries and Angel food cake!
watermelon for sure
A flag cake, most definitely. Sponge cake with cool whip, blueberries for the field of blue, strawberries for the stripes. Yummy!
Rice Krispie Treats always seem to be something great to snack on that day!
Favorite dessert…? Easy… Sangria with lots of fruit…it “almost” makes the heat bearable :-)
Homemade ice cream or peach cobbler…or both!
My favorite thing on fourth of july to cook would be cobbler of some sort–whichever fruit I can get the freshest. However my memories of 4ths when I was younger–my mom always made the sheet cake with cool whip on top with the strawberries and blueberries as the stripes and starts. My dad also makes a killer bread pudding with a liquor on top with fresh raspberries and blue berries. He doesn’t necessarily make it for the 4th, but the colors go with it!
def homemade ice cream :) yum!
I always make what we call 4th of July Dessert. It is angel food cake torn in pieces, covered with sliced sugared strawberries (including juice), layer of cool whip, layer of star shaped red and blue jello jigglers and start over. YUM!!! Very pretty in a glass bowl.
My son always asks for this and homemade blackberry pie with vanilla ice cream.
Strawberry shortcake!
I love homemade peach ice cream! or chocolate! or strawberry! :)
We love carmel brownies with ice cream for dessert! I have also done a fruit pizza, but my family is a bigger chocolate/carmel fan than fruit!!! I hope to get an ice cream machine for my birthday, but it’s 2 day’s after the 4th, so will have to try the homemade next year!
Bluebell! We often go to Washington-on-the-Brazos for fireworks and fun and they have free Bluebell or I serve it at home!
I can’t remember making a dessert on the 4th, but I have definitely enjoyed eating a flag decorated cake made with coconuts, blueberries, and cherries.

It’s the flag cake for us, too.
But, I always like trying new things!
Saw some red, white, and blue homemade popsicles on the familyfun site that I’d like to try.
unwrap ice cream sandwiches, lay them in 9X13 pan, “frost” with cool whip, then drizzle hersey’s syrup over the top. It looks fancy, and my 8 year old can make it herself. YUMMY too!!
I love good old fashioned watermelon and a red/white/blue cake…yummy!
A family favorite/requirement for 4th of July is “Dirt” and I don’t know if you call it a cake or a pudding, but it is delicious! It has all manner of butter, pudding, Oreo, and whipped cream.

We love to make homemade ice cream for the 4th. It brings back memories of when I was a little girl in Mississippi and I got to sit on the top of the ice cream freezer while my Daddy turned the crank.
My fav dessert for the 4th of July is plain old fruit, either watermelon or cherries, or a nice fruit salad with as many yummy summer fruits as I can find.

Well, home made ice cream of course! But I’ve never turned down the opportunity to make any kind of dessert (though I wasn’t too fond of the blueberry pan dowdy I made one year, and I suspect gave me food poisoning…)

love angel food cake served with strawberries!
When my husband’s family gathers, everyone brings their ice cream makers. There is always a good variety including peach ice cream and some sort of peanut butter ice cream. It’s fun to try all the flavors!
I like to have a watermelon but sometime make jello eggs in colors and slice them up and put whipped cream on as dessert.
Blueberry Yum-yum. Goofy name, but it’s a fabulous dessert…especially if you use real whipping cream instead of Cool Whip.
Definitely a flag cake with the strawberries and blueberries. So. Good.
