All The Absentmindedness Made Me Forget

Several of y’all have asked me if you missed the announcement of the Nations Outfitters giveaway.

And the answer is no. No, you didn’t. I just totally forgot to draw for the winner in the midst of getting ready for our company and watching the Bulldogs score 49 points against Memphis this past Saturday night.

Did I mention that the Bulldogs scored 49 points? IN ONE GAME? I still can’t get over it.

Anyway, I’ll draw for and notify the winner (by email) in the morning. Around 7:15 central time. There’s no real reason for 7:15 – it’s mainly for kicks and the sake of a firm deadline, I reckon.

Now.

I promise that I’m going to make a conscious effort to SIMMER DOWN, ALREADY with all the talk of college football, but the Bulldogs have a pretty big game on ESPN tomorrow night, and this video was on Coach Mullen’s Facebook page today, and I have watched it four times already and am about to make it five.

I would never presume to trash-talk about this game because I’ve watched us get whipped by Auburn more times than I can remember, including one time when I was about 13 and so sulky after the game that my daddy gave me a good talkin’-to at the Captain D’s in Starkville about how IT’S JUST A GAME, and we’re not gonna sit around and be upset about A FOOTBALL GAME, FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE.

Honestly, I don’t think Daddy had any clue about the degree of my allegiance to the Bulldogs. He just couldn’t have known that I would grow up and become a person who would drag her one year-old to an SEC basketball showdown. Or who would teach her child the melody to the Fight Song as soon as he could sorta/kinda carry a tune. Or who would try to cook up a Thursday night road trip to the State/Auburn game and feel sixteen kinds of crestfallen when it didn’t work out because WE PLAY SO MUCH BETTER WHEN I’M IN THE STADIUM.

I mean, you just don’t typically count on that from your daughter. Or, in our family’s case, daughters. Because Sister is just as Bulldog cuckoo crazy as I am, and that is just how we like it.

So all that to say: no trash talking from me. Just a whole bunch of excitement about the possibility of a great game against Auburn (a school that I actually like a whole bunch) and a very, very, VERY cautious optimism that the ‘Dogs will play well.

See? I’m very level-headed.

And I expect that level-headedness to be in full effect until 6:30 Thursday night.

At which point BULLDOG CUCKOO CRAZY will reign supreme.

Amen.

  7. I love the college football talk. It’s synonymous with fall! But since I do bleed orange (a UT fan who grew up in Montgomery, therefore am 51% Vol and 49% Tiger) I have to share this. AU’s new QB is Cam Newton… so word on the street is War Cam Eagle :) I think it’s cute.

  8. I LOVE you enthusiasm. I’m just as crazy for TUlsa football. Unfortunately, TU lost on a last-second play that is being replayed on ESPN ad nauseum…..Oh, well. Saturday is another day. Hope your guys do well against Auburn.
    Go Hurricane!

  9. Being an Alabama fan, I didn’t expect to be so excited about this game but I am. And I’m hoping Dan Mullen’ “Let’s his dawgs out” and whoops all over Auburn! :)

I read your blog all the time and was so excited when I clicked on it today and saw this video and where it stopped was on the sidelines and there was my son #77!!! I have watched this about five times and I am so pumped for the game. I will be there in my maroon!!!

  15. I’ll be at middle school football tonight don in Alabaster watching both my boys play. So we’ll seriously have to hurry home and catch the rest of the game! I think it will be a great game.

We went to Tuscaloosa last weekend. Had such fun! I’d love to be going back on Saturday but work, along with the fact that tickets are $$$$$, just gets in the way. :sigh:

  16. I am more anxious/excited about tonight’s game than I have been about one in a LONG time. Hail State!

  17. We are Bulldog Cockoo Crazy here at our house as well! Hubbie is missing school orientation to watch the game! Priorities you know! Go STATE!

  18. This is Kelly’s husband (post 17) – That video is awesome. WE GOT SOME DAWGS UP IN HERE!

Bulldog Cookoo Crazy with less the 3 hours to go til kickoff!

  19. Love how excited you are for your Bulldogs! That’s how we roll in the SEC! But I must say WAR EAGLE!!

And to Terri post#8…Go Pirates Aaarrgghhh!! I was there!! ;-)

  20. Watching the game right now. MSU is giving Auburn a run for their money!!! Just for tonight, I’ll say Go Dawgs! (Come Saturday, it’s back to Geaux Tigers!… as it should be. :))

  21. Goodness! Watching the game, and they just showed the MSU Cheese Store! Who knew? I’m sorry to say I’m an Auburn fan (my son is an alum), but I am thrilled to know that someone who knows the SEC as well as you do likes Auburn. Enjoy every minute!

  22. At halftime of State game: I wish a cow would walk out on the field and sit on Cam Newton! Come on Dawgs!

  23. it’s halftime and it’s a great game so far; even better cause it’s an SEC game. the best conference EVER.

    war eagle!!!

  24. Watching the game. Early 3rd Quarter – BULLDOGS RECOVER THE ONSIDE KICK!!!! Feel sure you are screaming like a banchi right about now! Let’s go, DOGS!! Just because I am a Crimson Tide fan and I always root for whoever is playing Auburn! :)

  25. Oh Boo, I’m so sorry. I’m a Big XII (Texas Tech) fan, but my Mama is from Starkville and I’m always rooting for the ‘dawgs. The stadium looks amazing! It’s been about 10 years since I visited the campus. There’s more football to play this year,,,,,GO ‘DAWGS!!

    Susan

  26. Let us be comforted by our fond memories of Lee Hall. sigh… On a positive note, my father, a rabid SEC and Ole Miss fan, commented tonight, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen the kicker recover an on-side kick.” Small victories. And wasn’t that shot of The Little Dooey spectacular? (sniff, sniff)

  27. Girl, that was too close for comfort. I think both teams left it all on the field! But it will be a little easier going to work tomorrow w/a Tiger victory (I live in Jxn and work at a church where most all SEC teams are represented, but alot of the guys (and their wonderful assistants) are State fans. Now, y’all need to go out there and win the rest! War Eagle!

  28. Although I probably couldn’t watch an entire football game even if it were projected onto the insides of my eyelids, I (a) love your blog and (b) admire that kind of loyalty. So, “Go Bulldogs!” (Was that sufficiently enthusiastic? Should I have used italics? I’m new at this sort of thing.)

  29. I was raised a Bama fan and assure you that from the time she could talk, my little one would (and still will) tell you that an elephant says, “Roll Tide!” In fact, I’m hoping to go to the Bama/Miss St. game this year. I’m pretty excited about it! (I haven’t gotten to go to a game in Tuscaloosa in years!) Maybe if you’re going to that one (’cause don’t you live in B’ham?) we could meet up and trash-talk each other right under Denny Chimes. :) haha!

  30. Sorry about the loss, and remember, anything you are excited about is fun for me too. Anything. Well not Tori and Dean, but anything else!
