Now I know that the title sounds like an exciting new breakfast offering from McDonald’s, but alas, it is just a made-up word that popped in my head when I was putting together a mental list of links I wanted to post.
And yes, it would be ever-so-exciting if I managed to write a post with some semblance of a narrative thread this week, but it may not happen. There is lots of busy busy-ness on the work front for the next couple of days, not to mention that I plan to see a matinee of The Great Gatsby this Friday so that I’ll be able to stick around for a second showing if necessary.
The level of love that I have for that book is not at all normal.
All righty. Let us begin the Linktacular.
Linkapalooza.
Linkaroo.
I could do this forever.
– Today I felt a surge of white hot panic when I realized that I had not yet ordered Mother’s Day gifts for my people. I can blog about this, of course, because my mama and mother-in-law will never, ever see this post thanks to their long-standing personal policies of never really having a reason to “look at the computer.”
Anyway, I am happy to say that I found gifts that I think they will enjoy very much: Sparkly Green Earrings and Mended: Pieces of a Life Made Whole for Martha, who loves to read more than she likes to shop for jackets (hard to believe! but true!), and for Mama, who loves all things related to hospitality, I picked Return to Sunday Dinner, which is an absolutely gorgeous cookbook.
Just thought I’d pass along the suggestions in case one of you happens to be in white hot panic mode, too.
Also, let us pause and give thanks for the wonder that is Amazon Prime.
Amen.
– So this is epic.
Just FYI: “Don’t Cry Out Loud” is one of my all-time favorite pageant songs. It lends itself to a wide range of Deeply Meaningful Motions.
And when Jimmy Fallon broke out the Sam Harris song, I looked at my husband and said, “Oh. The fact that he pulls out a Sam Harris reference from almost 30 years ago makes me think that I would like to be his friend.”
– So. Let’s just re-visit that Sam Harris Moment, why don’t we? Because I was in junior high, I think, when I discovered that I could scream/sing in the same range that he sings in, and that made for some memorable vocal moments with my jam box and my Sam Harris cassette.
I continue to love this performance with every fiber of my being.
– If you’re a Mad Men fan, you will understand why I’m a little obsessed with this GIF.
Oh, Pete Campbell.
– If you live in Birmingham or like to visit here, Rachel has put together a great Pinterest board called Birmingham: Eat Local. Really, it’s a catalog of some of Birmingham’s most beloved restaurants. And I’m totally using it as a reference the next time D and I stare at each other and say, “So. Where do you want to go?”
– I’m getting my hair cut and highlighted tomorrow.
I don’t have a link for that, but SWEET MERCY, IT IS TIME.

Ooh, hope Mama enjoys her cookbook! My childhood best friend was actually the author’s daughter, but sadly I was too young to appreciate the fine meals her dad occasionally prepared for us…
Oh that Jimmy Fallon video is awesome. I love how hard he laughs when John K. is performing. Have you watched all the Jimmy Fallon/Justin Timberlake History of Rap videos because they have made my life COMPLETE.
Sam Harris is from my hometown of Sand Springs, OK and my mom once babysat him! (It’s my one claim to fame and I so, so rarely get to bring that tidbit up. Thanks for the chance.) :)
Oh sweet day! How I miss the ‘Ham. I checked her board to see if Johnny Ray’s made the cut. I remember living there The whole world smelled of pulled pork goodness. Pardon me while I grab a tissue, I am gettin a little misty eyed. Amy (amyepatton@comcast.net)
Thanks for sharing this list of bham food….I live here but am not “from” here, I’ve eaten at a few, but now I can reference this and feel way hipper than I actually am….can you direct me to a pin of area babysitters?? Thankssomuch! Haha!
How sad that NBC will let me watch the Starbucks commercial both times I tried to watch the Jimmy Fallon clip you posted, but then block the actual video on my iPad. It’s so NBC of them. The blessing and curse of technology……
I LOVE JIMMY FALLON! I just hope he can continue to be Jimmy when he switches to take over for the Tonight Show, Conan had some trouble and it makes me so nervous that we will loose these goofy moments. And as for John, a big,fat heart for him! Hilarious! The Boys to Men song was epic!
Sam Harris: Such memories. I was a senior vocal music major who knew EVERYTHING there was about singing. Then we watched Star Search and decided our “opera” training was all in vain. Wonder whatever happened to him? Think I’ll job over to Google and find out.
Thanks for the Jimmy clips. Love him – can’t wait till he’s on early so Mamaw can stay up and watch him!
If Jimmy Fallon ran for president in 2016 (or any year, for that matter) I would vote for him and I’m not even kidding. Also, T and I are getting our hair cut tomorrow. I would be willing to bet money on our hair/mops being in more need. Ha!
i just have to say thank you this morning. Thank you for making me laugh. Thank you for the Jimmy Fallon clips. I need to watch him more often but I never seem to catch the really good ones. Thank you for bringing Star search back into my life. I was not a dedicated fan because I did not get to watch it much. We only had one TV back in those days. Maybe not even a real remote at the time. Remember the box with the buttons? It sat on the end table next to my Dad’s recliner. I do have this vague memory of the Over the Rainbow performance. So thank you again.
Most of all THANK YOU for the Pinterest board recomendation! My daughter will be going to BSC in the fall. For every trip we have made to Birmingham it is always a struggle to decide where to eat. This just might change our lives! Have a great weekend!
Sophie, you crack me up! I was in Guntersville this past weekend and man if I had the time, I would have driven to Birmingham to see you! Thanks for being a part of my days and making me laugh! I just ordered your book and can’t wait to read it!
sophie, you’re the best! passing this restaurant link on to our graduates headed to Beeson Seminary! what a nice welcome. :)
Ok, so we don’t have cable and haven’t been caught up on the new season of “Mad Men,” but now I’m so excited to see if I can stream it online simply to look at Pete’s sideburns. And it’s so obvious why this show must end after the 7th season. Seeing these men in wide ties would be disastrous. And, hey, speaking of lists and links and whatnot, I think you’re due for one of those great “here’s what to buy for the hip young folk these days!” post. It is graduation season, and I’m so, so out of touch!
Alright, Missy. Between “linkapalooza” and that Jimmy Fallon clip, I almost made myself wheeze while laughing. Sam Harris for Pete’s sake! That clip really was epic. :)
Oh My! I was having a pretty bad, stressful day. But that Jimmy Fallon clip made me laugh and laugh. In fact, I’m at work so I’d watch a little, pause it, do a little work, come back and watch some more (trying to make it last) I have always loved Jimmy Fallon, but now I think I may have to had John Krasinksi (sp) to my list! Many thanks for sharing!
I love Jimmy. We DVR him almost every night. He’s so genuine and never afraid to look stupid.
Love that clip. I had to watch it twice! I remember Sam Harris well from Star Search and then in the 90’s he showed up as Joseph in a touring company of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He was an awesome Joseph!
Oh Em Gee, Sam Harris! I thought he was the best! I also thought he was forgotten by now and that not many people have even heard of him. I saw him in person when he performed in Sacramento. Our seats were about three rows from the stage, just by pure luck. He was fabulous!
i had forgotten about star search…thank you for reminding me…i loved to watch that show
I was marveling over the SWEET frosted mullet that Sam Harris was rocking as I read your last comment about getting your hair cut and colored………..AAAAAUUUGGGGHHH!
The late night Jimmy Fallon show just aired here about an hour ago. And of course since we get like two english channels, we watched it, in awe that we had an option for ‘comedy’ between the two.
I laughed SO hard.
Love
first things first – i must live under a rock as I have just found your blog. And let me just say that your little piece of the internet world is a happy place for me. I grew up in the south (in Florida, which I know doesn’t always qualify. But my grandparents were from Alabama so I qualify as southern) and your blog is like coming home. LOVE IT! And so excited to read your book…
now to important matters – I think I might be watching that Jimmy Fallon video again.. and again. I heart John Krasinski. From way back in the early office days and this just made my day. still laughing…
