So remember when my book came out and one of the giveaways was a cast iron skillet and fifteen pounds of bacon?
Well. I was actually supposed to give away two cast iron skillets. But I forgot all about that second one because the week before the book released I was very busy watching Mississippi State baseball while I tried to ignore All The Nerves. I really was scared out of my ever-livin’ mind, and baseball was my most favorite coping mechanism in my time of publication need.
I will pause for a moment so that you can marvel at my lack of mental strength and maturity.
So for the last three months, that second skillet has been under the watchful eye of my friend Maria at Tyndale. And earlier this week I got a couple of very funny emails from Tyndale friends that essentially said I AM TIRED OF MOVING THAT SKILLET OUT OF THE WAY WHEN I WANT TO SIT DOWN IN MARIA’S OFFICE. PLEASE GIVE IT AWAY.
Which is what I’m about to do.
But – but! – there’s even better news. Because this past weekend I got to hang out with sweet Misty from Petit Jean Meats, so after the Tyndale folks emailed me about the skillet, I emailed Misty and said, “Hey. You want to give away some more bacon?” And then she wrote me back and said, “Yep. Sure do.”
(That might not have been the exact conversation.)
(But you get the idea.)
And that is why today I am so happy to give away a 12-inch cast iron skillet along with fifteen pounds of Petit Jean Meats bacon.

These two things belong together. It’s the Southern way. And I can tell you without hesitation that Petit Jean’s black pepper bacon is the best I have ever had.
That is high praise considering that I am no stranger to the bacon.
SO. If you’d like to enter to win a a 12-inch Lodge cast iron skillet, FIFTEEN POUNDS-O-BACON, and a copy of my book because, well, WHY NOT, just leave a comment on this post. If you’d like a second entry, just go like the Petit Jean Meats Facebook page and then come back here and leave an additional comment (you can just say “PJM Facebook” or something like that in your second entry).
I’ll close comments on this post Friday night, and I’ll select a winner using random.org.
Happy Wednesday, y’all!

I would LOVE to win both the skillet and bacon. My favorite days are ones that include bacon at every single meal. My day looks something like this Breakfast- eggs, biscuits and bacon, Lunch- BLT and Dinner- greens beans made of course with bacon :)
I cannot recall the last time I had some Southern Fried Bacon in a cast iron skillet. My brain is drooling just thinking of the sound of it cracklin’ on the heat, and it is frantically searching through all those filin’ cabinets for the memory of what it tastes like. Unfortunately with all the *green* initiatives the body has been pushing thru lately tryin’ to get healthy those particular files might just have been recycled. I would love love love love to win the skillet and bacon just to be able to update my files and enjoy some drizzlin’s for a pan of cornbread that will be fried up after I’m done with the bacon.
Awesome giveaway … and so yummy!!
If you asked my family or hometown, this mid 20’s Arkansas girl is failing at all things wifery without a cast iron skillet. The only thing that could make them happier than me finally owning one, would be to cook them all that bacon. For the LOVE OF BACON, I need this. :)
Not sure which I’d be more excited about….a cast iron skillet or so much bacon!
Did you say lick the Petit Jean Meats page or like it? Either way … it’s done! I can tell when I get my first paycheck I’m gonna have to order me some of those meats! Not only do they look delicious on the page, but affordable!

I was browsing the book store for a “feel good” southern read for a friend’s mother who recently broke her hip. We are new to Mississippi, but have lived in The South for over 13 years. We love the traditions, food, and general love we encounter on a daily basis. Even though the book was/is a gift, I devoured it in several hours and felt so good after! While I would love to win the gift, I feel blessed to have run across your sweet book and your equally entertaining blog :-)

“And bits of bacon, bits of bacon are like the fairy dust of the food community. “You don’t want this baked potato? Brrring! Now it’s your favorite part of the meal. Not interested in the salad? Bibbity bobbity BACON. I just turned it into an entree.”
But once you put bacon in a salad, it’s no longer a salad. It just becomes a game of ‘find the bacon in the lettuce’. It’s like you’re panning for gold. Eureka!” ~Jim Gaffigan
Thank you!
