Considering that this is our first podcast of the 2014 college football season, it’s really no wonder that we spend a chunk of time talking about, well, college football.
However, it might be a wonder that we manage to talk about anything else. Somehow, though, we covered Melanie’s bathroom remodel, the joys and perils of writing books, the latest developments with our eyelashes, the joys of 40-something eyesight, and some recent beauty product finds.
So basically we’re solving all the world’s most important problems.
Now please do enjoy.

Or, as always, you can subscribe on iTunes if you’re feeling particularly fancy.
Happy Labor Day, y’all!

Thank you so much! I’m off work today but can’t wait to listen tomorrow, at work!
YESSSSSS! You have no idea how excited I get when this comes out. It’s like I get to talk to a friend without having to exert any effort, which is awesome because I have no effort left after the end of a long day caring for my 1 year old. It’s a wonder I’m typing this. Congratulations on finishing your book, and thanks for the podcast!! I want to be just like you and Melanie when I grow up…
Hi Ladies, Thank you for your podcasts– they are so great to listen to at my job when I am supposed to be working. ;-) It is nice company to have in my office. Regarding the reading glasses: I also started wearing them around the time I was 44 with a 1.0, then moved on up to the 1.25 a couple of years into it and just last week I bought some 1.50. (I will be 49 in a few weeks.) Usually I find packs of 3 that are very cool and stylish at Marshall’s for $9.99. I know I am in NC and you ladies are elsewhere, however, I have seen them at multiple Marshall’s throughout North and South Carolina, so it would be worth a shot to mention it. Also, you absolutely have to buy a small 15x magnification mirror for plucking your eyebrows. I saw one a few years ago at Target and could not stop looking at my face in the store on the mirror aisle. You might need to medicate or have a mild cocktail or pray or whatever helps you prepare for this, because you will absolutely not believe the stuff going on when you see your face at that magnification!! (wrinkles, sun-spots, etc.) However, I find it to be very zen-like to sit and use that mirror to analyze everything. The point of this is, you will not need your reading glasses. And it has little suction cups on the back, so you can mount it to the mirror on your car visor and pluck your eyebrows at stoplights. (Not that I do this, of course.) Seriously, go get one (I have three, actually). I know that one brand is called the “mirror-mate” and it is about 4-inches across. It will change your life—-as far as eye-brow analysis goes. I am hoping to see you both at First Baptist Church in Charlotte and I will bring you both one that night–just in case you have not purchased one yet yourself. :-)
I listened today while I was cleaning house like I always do and I have to tell ya, I’m 38.5 weeks pregnant and highly emotional and I may have almost gotten choked up over y’all’s sweet comments about OK State. That’s embarassing. But also, I have a bone to pick with Melanie! She convinced me that having a white slipcover was totally easy and worth it and now here she is going back on her word and here I am with a white slipcovered couch and a two year old boy with another on the way. I realize we all make our own life choices but I don’t know if she understands the power she wields. I feel like she needs to be accountable. 😜 lol just kidding but now I am kinda paranoid because I also clearly have a real hard life with many important concerns.
Those of you with white slipcovers, could try dyeing your slip cover with RIT dye. . I have done this with several white things over the years and it works. I have only dyed white pants, shorts, shirts, etc. If they get stained or a spot that will not come out, then I dye them the same color as the spot and I am able to get more wear out of them. I am sure there are some great dyeing tips on the internet. I would not do anything super-dark (like navy, black, chocolate) because it is hard to get an even dye and with such a large piece of fabric it would really show. Just a thought.
I never do this, but I just can’t stay silent on the subject of mascara. I’ve got your game changers right here. And I don’t say that lightly, as I too have suffered through the seasons of great mascara discontent. And although I do agree with your fondness for some Rimmel Accelerator, I can say without reservation that your eyelash game is about to go to a whole. new. level. I’ve carried this good word both to my Jerusalem and Samaria and behold the fields were ripe, and the harvest was plentiful. Ladies, I give you:
L’Oreal Double Extend Lash Fortifier and Extension Mascara (my word that’s a mouthful) and as a drugstore beauty product bonus, e.l.f. Studio Eyebrow Kit. And at $9 and $3 respectively, you can afford a new lipstick, concealer, or pedicure.
Qualifier and caution: I intended to try and post an image of these two beauty wonders but that is beyond what I am able to do at my age. However, when I did the search of google, I did notice that the mascara packaging has recently changed; resulting in a great uneasiness that they are changing my favorite mascara. Please God, do not let it be. I went through the same thing with the Rimmel Accelerator and let me just say, “Leave well enough alone people!”.
I wish you well in your search of the holy grail of mascara. It is a great blessing when you finally find the right one.
