Melanie and I never really know what we’re going to talk about when we start to record a podcast, so maybe that will help explain to you why we spend far too many minutes in this particular podcast talking about fruit kabobs.
Yes. I said “fruit kabobs.”
Before we dig in to that riveting topic, though, we talk about the books I read at the beach (I don’t recommend Gone Girl; it is a page-turner for sure, but I kinda wish I hadn’t read it), our expectations about Amy Poehler’s book (I expected something along the lines of Hilarious Hijinks with Tina Fey, and it’s way more reflective than that), and why we feel less patient with book characters as we get older.
I also make Melanie talk about her new book, Nobody’s Cuter than You, which comes out Tuesday, April 7th and will basically make you laugh and cry and then plan a girls’ weekend with all of your closest friends. It’s wonderful.
Then, for some reason, we segue’ into a lengthy conversation about brunch foods, the aforementioned fruit kabobs, foods that make us a little sick when we think about them, the resurgence of cauliflower, and why we’re no longer very interested in lettuce.
It it every bit as compelling as you’d expect.
Finally, of course, we talk about our skin and sunscreen and basically WHY ARE WE OLD.
Shockingly, we do not mention Amy Grant even one time. I have no explanation for this other than pure negligence.

Enjoy, y’all!

BooCast episode=morning made. :)
Alas, I also read Gone Girl, and while very compelling at the beginning…it fizzled into gross silliness with a totally reprehensible and unbelievable ending. Thumbs down. CANNOT even imagine seeing the movie.
Coffee with Boo…..what could be better?
You all can talk about grass growing and make it sound interesting!
And, BTW, I’m with you on the turkey soup thing! I don’t love a turkey and when Thanksgiving is over, I want it out of my house! No bones, no weird carcass hanging around. I can tolerate it about once a year and then I’m done! Sheila Walsh posted yesterday that her family DEMANDED a turkey for Easter dinner. I’m thinking I may have to unfollow her for such blasphemy.
I hate cooked cawliflower…love it raw :D
The husband was right! ( Did I just say that?) It IS like listening in on someone’s phone conversation…….or sitting at the kitchen table with y’all……and that’s ok, especially when we are home alone and y’all make us feel like we’re part of the group! Thanks! ( Sophie have you tried Malley mascara? I get mine from QVC….it layers up and makes you feel like every day is a special makeup day! Hahaa!) Going to the Meridian Walmart to see if they have Melanie’s book!!!!
I make cauli rice instead of regular rice. Yes, it’s a paleo thing, but it’s worth a try! Also, the Golden Girls theme song? Girl, nice touch!
I was pretty excited to see a new podcast up today! The friendship you two share is so encouraging. Thanks for always bringing a smile to my face.
My husband breads cauliflower and then fries it. And it is delicious. And probably just as many calories as a plate of french fries. But still delicious! :)
I love roasted cauliflower but have never thought it tasted just like popcorn. It definitely gets more buttery tasting as it roasts, but I don’t think we’ll ever see the day when one orders a tub of buttered cauliflower at the movies (though that would be a huge score for the cauliflower marketing team).
Gone Girl. What turned me off of that book was the language. It was just so harsh and crass. While the storyline was compelling, I found myself struggling to “unsee” all the profanity for days after I had completed the book.
And my cousin will only eat what he calls “white lettuce,” meaning the iceberg kind that has little to no nutritional value at all.
I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I get when there’s a new podcast.
One of my favorite things about this episode was when Melanie was talking about peanut butter and y’all started in on natural peanut butter. She said, “You have to STIR it.” It was so funny because she sounded personally offended at the prospect of stirring peanut butter. I about died laughing.
ALSO, I do NOT at all think that dinner with you and/or Melanie would be boring. Y’all are too much fun. And I do love that your podcast feels like I’m listening in on a phone conversation. It kinda makes me feel like we’re friends! : )
Happy Tuesday to you!
Love listening to your podcasts! I enjoy reading what you both write, so it is a treat to listen in to you both having a conversation!
I have been a faithful and delighted follower of all your podcasts and have just figured out that I somehow missed a bunch (10+) over the past years. IT’S LIKE CHRISTMAS I TELL YOU. These are just so much fun!
