Because Someone Might Like To Know These Things

First thing.

Last night I wanted to write a post about, yay, ANOTHER CD, but I know y’all have endured plenty of music-oriented posts of late. So I had a bloggy brainstorm.

I created a new page here on the blawg – and you can access it by clicking over to the right where it says “Listening….” I started off by listing the three CDs that are in my heavy listening rotation right now. Maybe at some point I’ll work my way up to five.

I can make no promises since the only area in which I am ambitious is procrastination.

And I’ll still be blogging about music here on the main page, of course. But I have run across so much good music lately, and the Listening page will give me a nice, quiet corner to share it. So there.

Second thing.

This Friday (as in the day after tomorrow) my newest pretend-BFF Mandisa is going to be on “Regis & Kelly.”

Or, as my non-television-watching sister-in-law Rose refers to it: “Reggie & Kathleen.”

And I hear that a free song download will be available to the people watching the show.

I feel this is terribly exciting.

Third thing.

Last Saturday when I was in Steinmart(s) with Mama, Sister, et al, I made a comment that I was pleasantly surprised by all the cute, modest, feminine clothes for fall. For the first time in what seems like forever, I saw way more stuff that I would wear than stuff that I wouldn’t wear, and OH MY WORD AT THE CUTE SKIRTS.

Y’all know I love me a cute skirt.

Well, this morning Emma Kate sent me an email about something she’d seen on Fox News. I for one do not watch Fox News very often because of all the spinning, twirling graphics and crawling headlines, not to mention THE VERY LOUD ANCHORS that make me quite nervous because, you see, I live with A VERY LOUD CHILD, and one mama can only take so much of the loud.

(My parents, however, watch Fox News all day every day, and my mama even refers to Shepherd Smith as “Shep.”)

(Because she feels that they are friends.)

Anyway.

Emma Kate saw a story on Fox News (FOX NEWS! BANG WHIZ ZOOM! FOX NEWS! FAIR AND BALANCED! FOX NEWS! CUE THE DRUMS!) about how many young girls aren’t as interested in celebrity “fashionistas” because of Britney’s / Paris’ / Lindsey’s recent run-ins with the law. As a result, there’s a growing turn toward clothing that’s less provocative and more modest.

EK said that the Fox people mentioned a website called Pure Fashion in their story – and I thought some of y’all might be interested.

Also: I apologize that it took me eight paragraphs to work up to that one little link.

And that is all.

  1. Fear not. Your very abundance of paragraphs is one of the many things I love about you.

  2. Speaking of fashion trends, I saw on the Today Show this morning that the horror of the 80’s is returning…..HIGH waisted pants with DARTS! (Goodwill is gonna’ LOVE this trend! They have GOBS of those ugly pants!)

Dang, I JUST lost most of my muffin roll and was loving my low ride jeans and they bring back the Dynasty pants! Argh…where’s my football player shoulder pads?!

  3. You always have great music selections, so I’m down with that. “Reggie and Kathleen”, that’s just plain funny! As for Fox News, it never annoyed me before you pointed out it’s flashiness; now, I might have to rethink things. Well, I guess if I want to stay married I will have to get over that one. Hubs loves Fox News (I even got him a coffee mug and Christmas ornament one year.)
As for clothes, if you think it’s hard for you to find nice, modest clothes, try fitting and 8 year old that wears a 12 (she’s going to be 9 ft tall, just like her Momma!). Until this year, it’s been impossible. But, I love the new stuff they have out for older girls this season. It’s about time!
    Blessings,
    Georgia Mom

  4. I’m blessed with a modest daughter. (CUE TRUMPETS! HARK THE HERALD ANGELS SING!)

However, somehow the word hasn’t got out about modesty here yet.
Hopefully, they get the message soon :)

  5. Ok I hate to be a stalker, but did you check out my new weekly music monday over at my blog. I gave a shout out to you and am hoping we can share some new awesome music with the world. That is my “Miss America” goal.

  6. Maybe “Shep” is your mama’s pretend bff.

  7. Thank you SOOOOOOOO much for the Mandisa alert! I’m obsessed, and just so you know, I’m CONFIDENT she would want to be MY best friend. Who wouldn’t, really?! I’ll share her with you if you’re nice.

  8. Thanks for the Pure Fashion link. I can’t wait to look into it.
Also, I’m enjoying my Monk and Neagle cd!!!

  9. thanks for sharing that link. I sure hope the trend stays that way for awhile, my dd is only 6, but I can’t stand the thought of when we start to fight over her choice of clothing. I hope she has the desire to NOT dress like today’s headliners…

  10. thank you for that link.

As for Fox News — they are allllllll like that now…

    Blessings,
    Karla

  11. LOL…your mama and Shepherd Smith are pretend BFFs! ;)

  12. I’m so glad that fashions are coming back to the pretty skirts and blouses. I’m tired of trying to find clothes suitable for me.
    And Steinmart ROCKS!!!

  13. Love that Pure Fashion link. That’s some good stuff!

  14. I saw a thing on Today Show or GMA about modest fashion. They had some models and showed a before photo in the overly revealing clothes and then had them come out in a better version of their outfit. I was very pleased to see it. They didn’t talk about Pure Fashion, but they did have a name for the trend. I’m not remembering it at the moment, though…

  15. Ahhh, Shep…he’s my PB! (pretend boyfriend)

  16. See, here is my theory.

I think Mamas like us finally Cowgirled up and just quit buying the low rise Pampers for their newborns.

And then the fashion folks figured out that the Mamas are the ones writing the checks.

    Not Paris Hilton.

    Just a theory…

  17. My hubby showed me an article in Newsweek stating the exact same thing.

    Modesty is back in!

I could not be more thrilled.

  18. suzanne says:

Modesty being the mode for the day??? I am ALL OVER THAT!!! Thanks so much for the link to Pure Fashion….I am so going to be spreading that around!
It is so hard to find things to fit my daughter anyway, especially out of the five things available in the modest dept! So maybe there’s hope! YAY!

  19. Disa is going to be on Regis and Kelly Friday!! Maybe some of the modesty trend will come up north. I long to find pretty girly clothes (like I can find down south). I don’t have teenagers yet so they don’t need to dress like one!!

  20. Thank you for letting me know about Mandissa. :-) I don’t usually watch Regis and Kelly, but I will tomorrow!! :-)

I LOVE Fox News! :-) Thank you so much for letting us know abou this website. I have several friends with teenage daughters, and we were talking about “teen fashions” just the other day. I am sending all of them this website. :-) Thank you. :-)

  21. That’s so great about Pure Fashion. Girls should be able to dress cute and modest without having to wear dresses that might have come off of Little House on the Prairie (even though I loved that show!).

You really made me laugh about your parents watching Fox News and referring to “Shep” like they know him. My parents do the exact same thing! They had some friends from England over a few years ago and “Shep” had been sent to cover a hurricane. My mom was yelling to my dad “Oh my! They sent Shep over!” Their friend from England asked “Do we know this person?” I said “No, but they think they do!”

Too funny! Have a great day!

  22. It was worth the eight paragraphs for the link at the end.

    Thanks,
    Kate

  23. You mean I have a chance of finding pants that are high enough and shirts that are long enough that I can lift my arms at work without fear of exposing my navel! Praise the Lord!!

I guess He doesn’t want to see everyone’s midriff and underwear at church either.

  24. Clearly, you don’t watch Fox news…His name is SHEPARD Smith. He tells the news, not herd sheep around. As hard as it is, I’ll forgive you for misspelling his name.

So glad modesty is making a comeback. Thanks for the update!

  25. I have a recommendation for great new artist that is ipod worthy. Her name is Colbie Caillat and her song Bubbly is just precious! A real good summer cd. And it is on sale right now 7.99 plus a bonus track on itunes. Just wanted to share with you b/c I know you love some good music!

Also, thanks for the link! Have a great day!

  26. I loved that web site! Thanks for sharing. I think it’s a great idea!
I agree it is so hard to find modest stylish clothes thees days! I always tell my husband I when we go shopping how I wish there was a Christian clothes store.

  27. um…note to self. do not, i repeat DO NOT have your computer volume up very loud when you click on over to pure fashion.

because you will hear “well, it’s a new day” so loud that it will wake your one-year-old.

goo may be traumatized. but also curious in the newest styles. she’s not an idiot. she wakes to trends.

  28. Very interesting website! Sweet blessings!
    Renee

  29. I like that you took 8 paragraphs to get to the link… but I needed a good giggle in the very moment I read it! Of course, that is why I usually come over to your site… you just make me LOL. On a regular basis! (Came out of lurkville just to say all that… contagious I suppose!)

    Thanks for the link!

  30. I’ve got a review posted of the new Monk and Neagle CD on my blog if your looking for some reading in your spare time!
Thanks again for hooking us up!

  31. What a great website. Such cute girls who look like their age and I’m not embarrased for them.

  32. I am so happy to hear it and am going to go check it out! I just posted a thought today on how discouraged I am with the way society seems to be pushing our kids toward adulthood SO EARLY as evidenced in the mall. Anyway, can’t wait to check this site out!

  33. Well, I made it through the 8 paragraphs and now I’ll go check out the link. Thanks!

  34. Shep is cool . . . but Sean Hannity is a hotty.

  35. As am mommy of a 2 going on 12 year old little girl, I am glad I saw that. Thank you. TOday is such a scary world for our kids- and not even near the “fashion” side of it- it helps to know that there are peolpe out there who do in fact encourage ACTUAL clothing as “FASHION” good find Miss Emma. :)

  36. YES!! Thanks for sharing that link – I posted it on my blog, too!

  37. Elizabeth says:

I just wanted to let you know that the “Good Word” verse today was just for me. Thanks.

Also, I have 4 daughters! It seems as if even Payless only sells stripper shoes in little girls sizes anymore. Thanks for the encouragement and great link.

  38. OK, but my question is…Does Steinmarts have any new clothes out for the big girls? :)

  39. You know, my daughter I and I call it “guard your heart” clothing. She’s a 9-year-old-“teenage”-daughter, who happens to wear a ladies size 8 shoe and anywhere from a 12/14 to a ladies size S (tshirts). It’s soooo hard to find stuff that isn’t what we call “hoochy”. I want her (and she would like) to wear the gymboree style, not abercrombie and fitch. Yet, we cobble things together as best we can because I don’t think there is a good “tween” outfitter out there.

You’re right about us mommas, though, lots of skirts and fun dresses (that twirl!) out there. :)

  40. I take it back–Land’s End does a pretty good job for tweens.

  41. OK, but my question is… Does Steinmarts have any new clothes out for the big girls? :)

  42. I call him Shep too, just so you know.

  43. Lea Margaret says:

Shep is from Mississippi after all!

  44. How do you do it? I know I will be smiling before I finish reading your posts! The Fox news thing had me laughing. My parents are the exact same way! A year or so ago when I had stayed with them I realized that they do this. They go to bed with Fox news or CNN on (I don’t think they actually turn the tv off) and wake up with it on so they can see what happend overnight! After several hours of seeing the same news stories I told them I felt I was needing a prescription if I had to watch this depressing stuff much more. I like to watch the news to catch up, but then that is enough!

Also, thanks for the link. My sweet daughter is 11 and thankfully still loves to dress modest. I know, at 11 she should right? Well, that is not the case with a lot of the little girls her age!

  45. Pure Fashions is a keeper! Thanks for the tip, even if it DID take you a while to get there!

  46. Praise the Lord!!! He is redeeming!

  47. Shep was my hero during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. I can still see him on that abandoned freeway with Katrina victims standing in the sun and heat and humidity, incredulous and irate because no one had come nor seemed to care that there was no water or food or shelter. I’ll never forget it.

  48. Thanks for the link to Pure Fashion. I look around and can’t believe how young girls/women dress these days. It’s down right embarrassing! They even dress that way for church. Then the pastor beats up on the guys for LOOKING! He needs to be beating up the females for dressing the way they do. Am I so out of touch with reality to believe that Moms need to be teaching their daughters how to be modest and dress modest? My Mama would have KILLED me! Someone give me a reality check, please.
