That Seemed To Go Pretty Well, Don’t You Think?

When we were in Savannah a couple of weeks ago, Addie asked me if the initial response to the Tour of Homes had overwhelmed me. I told her that yes, it did a little bit – but that it had surprised me more than anything else. I think I’ve mentioned before that I was thinking sixteen, MAYBE seventeen people might participate. Twenty if the wind was blowing just right.

Good thing I don’t make a living off of predictions. I sort of stink at them, obviously. And today’s response has blown me away. Thank y’all so much for sharing your homes with all of us!

Honestly, part of the reason I wanted to do this is because I was hoping to drive some traffic to other blogs – just as other bloggers have done for me – and it sounds like my crafty scheme may have just worked. I was excited that I was able to get to more blogs than I anticipated, even using Daddy’s dial-up, but some of you had so many comments that the dial-up totally rebelled when I tried to post a comment from me. It made me smile a little bit every time that happened.

Since I have been away from my own home the last week and a half, when I looked at my blog today and saw the pictures of my house, it honestly made me a little homesick. But I think that’s what this whole bloggy deal was about: sharing the things that make our homes so special to us, and also recognizing that regardless of square footage or paint colors or kitchen design, God has blessed each of us with a roof over our heads – a place that we can call home. I’m so grateful for that, and I can tell that y’all are, too.

Earlier this afternoon, Sister suggested – and then I saw that someone else mentioned it in the comments – that we should do a Holiday Tour of Homes next. I think that is a GREAT idea – so I’ll keep that on the back burner. Sounds like (the beginnings of) a plan to me.

I’d love to hear your feedback about how today went for you…if it increased your traffic, if you found some blogs you’ll be visiting again, if you felt encouraged by seeing more comments than usual. I know that some of you had problems with the Mr. Linky thing, and I have no idea why…but maybe I’ll have more practice with it by the time December rolls around.

Thanks again, y’all, for such a great day. I have a LOT of blogs left to visit, so just continue to be patient…and know that if I don’t make it by your place this weekend, on Monday I’ll be back in my leather chair in the corner of my den, enjoying me some wireless high-speed internet :-) – and making much quicker progress through the linky list.

There really is no place like home, and it’s great to know that so many other people feel the same way.

  1. Thank YOU for a fun day. I told my sweet husband I had visited over 100 peoples homes today! I did get some nice visitors and hope to get more at my blog. It was a wonderful experience and I was blessed by seeing all of God’s blessings upon so many wonderful souls. God is GOOD!

  2. Thanks for doing this tour. I love to find new blogs to read. I think this was a great idea to link people together. I’ve already found some new “friends” through this. The funny thing is I totally didn’t plan on doing this, then I just did. I had taken pictures of my house the past winter (after I cleaned it of course) and so it was simple and quick for me to do. I only had to take a couple of new pictures. Thanks again.

  3. Well? Well? I’ve got nearly 700 hits on my sitemeter today. That’s insane. Over 70 of them left messages! (I’ve decided not to read into why the other 630 didn’t.) ;)

Hey, I have an idea for a tour. How about an “As Is” tour. Drop everything when you read the post and take a picture! No cleaning — no cheating.

Thanks again for doing this. It’s been fun.

  4. It was such a fun day doing this Boomama. I didnt get posted til kind of late today but that is ok. I have loved reading everyones blogs and have a long way to go. I liked what you said about getting out and meeting others blogs. I see that alot of the older bloggers are kind of already set in who they visit, and have become a closed nit group, so this will help alot having all these names to visit for sure. There are SO many unique people out here and I hope everybody can be more of a part.
It was so much fun, Thankyou.
I am still in prayer and hope you can update again on how Elise and the boys are doing.

  5. This was a great idea and I look forward to the holiday edition. Thanks so much. It was fun seeing where people glean their inspiration! I couldn’t stay away from the computer all day!

  6. What a lovely and fun idea this was!! I started the tours before work this morning, and have been working on them this evening as well. I have dial up so it is taking awhile (you can relate) but what a great time anyway!

It has been fun to see my sitemeter soar today and to have numerous comments! It has also been fun to go leave comments at others places as well.

Once again, thanks for such a lovely time. You do a holiday tour and I am in!!

  7. Boomama, this was fun–a totally stress-less way for tons of people to come visit me. No cleaning, no cooking, and I didn’t even have to be here! ;)

What I thought was interesting is how we all have things we’d give up in our own home, to have something somebody else has, and vice versa. (If this is clear as mud, the fact that Toni would give up her backyard for my tub, and I’d give up the tub for her yard, should help clarify.) It’s like church–no single one is perfect, but we have to embrace what we have and be thankful for it! (I guess that applies to husbands, too!!!)

Okay, I have a feeling this comment is rambling and doesn’t make a lot of sense. But it’s midnight, so that exempts me from being rational!

Thank you for doing this–it was fun, and the holidays will be even better!

  8. I guess it’s safe to say “You rock, Boomama!” I haven’t even made a dent in the list, & I’m looking forward to seeing each & every home listed. And the holidays? OOOHHH! I’ll be ready.

  9. I think Robin is already getting ready for the Christmas tour. She was listening to the Christmas music the other day when I called!

Sarah, did you sell your house today? ;-)

  10. It was certainly fun, BooMama. :-) I was late getting mine posted and linked, but I have had close to a hundred visits according to my sitemeter. Only a handful commented, but, hey, that’s not what it’s all about anyway. My little place is humble compared to most, but it’s mine and I’m blessed to have it. Thanks for hosting the Tour, and I was blown away by the number of particpants, too! ;-)

Safe jouney home for you and Sister, my friends. :-)

  11. This has been soooo GREAT!! How fun! :) I have loved seeing everyone’s homes. Thanks so much for hostng it.

I have only been to about 60 so far though – my word this is going to take me all weekend! I am determined to get to everyones though.

Not having enough time to visit all the blogs I would like to each day has to be my top frustration with blogging. There are so many people I would like to meet and so many of my favourites that I would like to get to daily, but so often I am just visiting those who come and comment on mine.(I try to ALWAYS visit everyone’s blog who comes to mine.) By the time those are done, and I visit a few of my regulars and maybe a couple new ones, the day is more than gone! And then fit in writing good quality posts – I end up staying up WAY too late.LOL

So I am so happy for this chance to get to know a bunch of new bloggers in such a comprehensive Linky list!!! It is wonderful.

So fun – thanks so much.

I love that you are so popular now. You are a brilliant, funny, insightful and inspiring writer and obviously everyone who comes here recognizes it and you are soon going to rival Dooce for an internet rock star title.

Love you girl – and good work!! :)

  12. The person at Mr. Linky removed the “bad apple” link – so looks like everyone is good to go. :-)

  13. oh – i forgot to say sorry that I am an idiot. I linked to you in my post with your image but then forgot to link to you in my copy with a text link. I did my post in the middle of the night – really – i went to bed at 4:30 am last night and I just wasn’t thinking straight. soooo sorry. but at least every blogger out there knows it is from your place – LOL

  14. I’ve had a wonderful time visiting with everyone…although even with high speed it is overwhelming…I may or may not make every home…it seemed just a little creepy to me to go to so may strange places…but I’ve bookmarked quite a few interesting ones to visit again in hopes of becoming friends.
I had no problems at all with your linky…easy as pie really!
Thanks so much for doing this!

  15. Hey Boo Mama I ended up with 64 comments! A record for sure. Thanks for doing this I enjoyed my visits. Blessings.

  16. I think we, well, you (since you asked for feedback :)) should do a travel blog. Everyone could post what they like best about the town they live in. I love. Love. Love travel shows.

    But this was great fun.

You are in my thoughts and prayers. And again thank you for getting all of this together.

  17. Thanks for the link, I enjoyed visiting homes, I enjoyed getting comments! I got about 10 but yes id did add traffic to my web page, I got 119 hits today! I found some that I will definately be going back to read. Thanks again – what a wonderful idea!
Can’t wait for the holiday tour!

  18. Having just moved exactly a week ago, and with a dead digital camera on my hands I didn’t participate in the visual part of the tour yesterday.

Yet, I went around to about two-thirds of those on the list and thoroughly enjoyed every single bit of it! I especially loved reading about the special things in people’s houses or the neat stories behind how they got their house or furnishings.

Can’t wait to take part in the holiday edition. I’m already listening to Christmas music, too!

  19. I knew that I had been excited to do my home, and let my (tens of) readers see my home etc, and even some real life friends who haven’t visited here, but as it approached, I was excited about the whole thing. I will admit that I visited over 100, and left comments every time I was allowed to (even on xanga and homeschooler). I am writing a little write up (because I like loose ends tied up), but I want to wait until I finish, which I am determined to do! I will post a link on this thread when I post it.

My sitemeter had 230 hits when I turned off computer at 9pm, so I know it’s even more, and I was number 48 on the list.

And I did bookmark several blogs that I hope to spend a bit more time at when the bloggy home tour madness is over.

    Great idea!

  20. Thanks for such a great idea. The holiday tour would be fun too. I enjoyed looking at new sites. I think it did bring more traffic to many.

  21. Yes, I would say that the home tour was a smashing success! I had a record number of visitors (360 yesterday alone) and tons of comments, too. But more than that, I loved visiting as many homes as I could, although it’s going to take me a while to get through them all.

It was lots of fun, and it was so inspiring to read of everyone’s gratitude, too.

  22. Don’t stress about visiting them all right away, mine aren’t going anywhere at least ;).
I think a holiday one is a great idea, a few people posted some holiday photos and I really enjoyed seeing them.
For me, I got to meet a LOT of new people, and really get an idea of how they were, I also found several blogs to add to my regular bloglines reading, and of course got a lot of traffic myself. I hope it will turn into some more regular reading for me, as I’m always looking for new blogs to read, it seems that sometimes I get stuck in the same rut – visiting the same blogs, getting the same people commenting, which isn’t a bad thing, but I love meeting new people, and of course for business it’s better to get new people anyway.

  23. I got nearly 500 hits yesterday…it was fun…there is just NO way I can visit all 196 and comment though. I like to comment on ones I feel I can say something instead of “looks nice, or thanks for sharing” kind of generic stuff.

I would love to be able to visit all 196 and read and comment but I’d be here til next August! :)

I think a Holiday tour of homes is a great idea!!!!

  24. Thank you so much for doing this! I love the idea. I am hoping I get more traffic now to my blog. I know there are more blogs I will be reading now. I have even added yours to my sidebar *wink*!

    Thanks again!

  25. I new to the blogg world so i didn’t post any pictures but WOW! Everyone has such beautiful homes & families!! I’m excited about the christmas tour of homes I know thats far off but it will be here before we know it! I hope by then I will have figured this out better Blessings to you all!!

  26. Boo- this was just SO much fun. I haven’t even made a dent in the list of looing yet, and so many came by yesterday. I remarked to hubs last night how nice the house looked after we have over 300 people come through in such a short amount of time.

I’m blessed to know folks like you, and thouht when I started this little blog, that is was just for family and friends.

WOW- the new friends Im making along the way just blow my mind. God is good.

Thanks for putting this together- Now, I have to go. I have some holiday decorating I’ve got to start planning it appears.

  27. Boomama, that turned out great! Thanks for all of your hard work in the midst of a difficult week. And I’m all for a holiday tour, too. We’ll be waiting. :)

  28. Yeah, I’m TOTALLY in for the Christmas tour. I plan on participating in this one too. Just have to download my pics and sit without being interrupted so I can get it done. Now that I put it that way, I may not…

  29. Yes, yes! A holiday tour! *clapping wildly*

  30. Thank you very much. I can not wait until the Christmas edition. This is great!! Have a great day.

  31. I think the holiday home tour will be awesome!
thanks for this challenge, it was so much fun to see so many different homes

  32. Boo, Ijust looked at 31, A Bee in Her Bonnet, and she does have a tour. I did run across a weird one yesterday, can’t remember which one it was now, but #31 did do a tour.

This was awesome. So much fun. I finally had to sit myself down and make a plan so I can get through all the tours and still have a life!

Thank you so much for hosting this for all of us. A holiday tour would be a blast.

  33. Thanks Boomama for organizing such a fun day!
I originally forgot to add my link when I first posted…couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t getting a lot of visitors…duh! Then when I finally linked it, it wasn’t linking correctly, and some blogging friends sweetly let me know…thank you gals!
Anyway, in spite of that, I had a super time and loved seeing everyone’s homes!
The Christmastime tour sounds wonderful- can’t wait! :)

  34. SO much fun… loved it! Am IN for a holiday tour… great idea! Thanks for “hosting” !

  35. Amen! Thank you BooMama. I have had some hits today that I would not have had otherwise. A Holiday tour sounds great!

  36. Thanks so much for putting this together. I’m really surprised at the number of comments that I’ve gotten…and I’m still trying to make it throught the linky list as well! I think a holiday tour sounds like a fabulous idea!
I was one who had a problem with the button, but I’m sure that it is totally me- or the wordpress platform…who knows…but anyways…it really wasn’t a problem.
    Thanks again!

  37. BooMama – if increasing site traffic was part of your goal, you definitely did that for me. I’ve been blogging for about a month and half, and the number of visitors I had yesterday was literally 30 (yes, thirty) times the number of visitors I normally have in a day. Craziness! But fun! After the tour, my next post talked a wee bit about my reaction to that, among other things.

Thanks so much for organizing this! I have been having so much fun visiting everyone, seeing their lovely homes, and meeting new bloggers. It will take me along time to get through them all (I’m still trying to get to all the people who left me comments) but I hope someday to make it through the whole list. What great fun!

I love the idea of Christmas Tour. If you do that, let us know the details pretty far in advance, for those of us who will be travelling during the holidays, k?

  38. Thank you so much for hosting this tour! I had more trafic then I ever had and it was so fun to discover all sorts of new blogs to read!! I would defenatly be interested in a holiday tour!

  39. I will be posting mine this weekend. I have trouble getting mine done without hubby helping with the keep looking for me…I think the holiday open house would be awesome………I love things like that.

  40. My camera is still down but I enjoyed looking at different homes.
I admire your organizing skill to put on show like tour of homes.
Anyone with blogg could do lot of tour of______. (tour of my home town) (tour of my neighbor hood)(tour of my family) tour of place worship) or just take picture looking North, East, South, West.
Thank you for hosting now I need to tour more homes haven’t yet looked at them all.

  41. I think it’s going to take me all week to finish visiting everyone.

  42. I thought of a Christmas tour last night, but didn’t want to mention it in case this one was too much for you! Glad you are considering it! This was a lot of fun. I had problems posting some of my pictures, just because I am new to the html stuff. But Nancy helped me. Thanks again for hosting! It was fun!

  43. It turned out wonderful, although I didn’t get enough food but then I never do! I am only one-third of the way through the list and everytime I look at it more names have been added but it’s just so much fun. Thank you for being an incredibly fantastic hostess.

  44. Hi Boomama,
I found your blog through “In the midst of it” and did the Tour of Homes. What a great idea and so interesting. What a way to meet people! Anyway I thought it was so cool I thought I’d try my own blog and I hope you will visit and maybe offer some tips. Cheerios.

  45. Can I second Leslie’s motions for a travel tour. (although, that one’s real easy for her since she’s living in Australia and all, but anyway) I think it would be fun to see 2 or 3 of your favorite things about your city (not your favorite Piggly Wiggly or the Starbucks you like to drive thru.) But fun attractions or buildings specialty restaraunts or pretty parks and gardens that your city has.

  46. I have had so much fun going through the tour of homes and I’m not even halfway done because my dsl had the audacity to go out last night (while I was home alone and had all the time in the world to visit)! Thanks again for doing this.

I’m excited about the Christmas tour. I love me some Christmas lights!

  47. Thank you so much for putting this home tour together!! I’ve been having so much fun looking at all the homes. I would really love to do a holiday one!

  48. even my husband has become addicted to looking at everyone’s homes….it has been THAT much fun! i’m still not even halfway through the list and the list keeps getting longer!! thanks so much for hosting this and YES…its so fun to see more traffic and read lots of comments from new people!! THANK YOU!!!

  49. I want to thank you, also. I have gotten so many cute ideas from viewing these other homes! I can’t wait to hit the craft store/home depot and try some of them out for my own home. Bless you for doing all of this, even through such a sad situation. Can’t wait for the next one!

  50. I am still going to all the houses! The kids keep booting me off the computer with cries of “mama we’re hungry” …LOL!!!

  51. What fun! Seeing other people’s houses, and having so many guests at mine! Hugs to you, Boomama!

  52. Do you mind if I borrow this idea for a xanga blog?

  53. Just wanted to say thanks again for hosting this! I so enjoyed visiting some new sites and bookmarking some to visit again.
I love the idea of a Christmas tour!
    Thank you again!

  54. Quite the rousing success!

  55. I didnt participate in the pictures but I did browse around a found some new blogs I’ll be back to visit :) Thanks for doing this I enjoyed it! xoxo melzie

  56. i visited so many homes yeterday i didn’t even need hgtv last night to get my house fill in.

you did a swell job boomama.

  57. I didn’t get to participate in the tour of homes….i had thought about it and the week just got away from me. I was thinking you should do a holiday one too!! That would be SOOO fun!!! And maybe i can prepare/plan a little better though. I did enjoy the few sights that i randomly visited….might have to check out a few more later.

  58. I just loved it! And it did drive traffic my way. It just about quadrupled it–so thanks for that!

I am sooo up for a Holiday Tour. Fun, fun, fun.

  59. Suzanne says:

I didn’t participate this time mostly because I didn’t know how to do all the linkies, but what a wonderful idea!! I loved seeing everyone’s home….I have often said how fun it would be to walk door to door in my neighborhood, or some quaint little neighborhood of cottages and just see what it was like. I sort of felt like I was doing that, and CERTAINLY found several blogs that I will return to again and again. And one of those if definitely YOURS by the way! Thanks for all the fun!

  60. What Tour of Homes Meant to Me. (see web site)

  61. Yes, It’s been really fun…I’m still trying to get to everyone’s houses, since so many came to mine! Thanks for this!

  62. This was “more! fun”!!! It really was. You are so sweet to host it and even more hospitable to do it under the circumstances! Bless Your Heart girl!!!

  63. Hi,

Thank you so much for doing this, it was so much fun, and much needed on a day/week where stress ran rampant, and my darling 14 month old was doing her best cling-on impression….

    P.S. Your home is gorgeous!

  64. It was a great idea. I love seeing everyone’s home. I picked up a few ideas while I was on the tour! I’m still making my rounds.

  65. Oh, I think this was a huge success, too! It absolutely was a boost to my hits, and I really loved seeing all these beautiful homes on blogs I’d never visited before — many times I found myself bookmarking a blog because I just knew I wanted to visit again. So thank you, BooMama!

  66. I have a bit of amateur historian in me or something (and a need to have the last word, I think), so I posted my own little wrap up here:
    Observations from the Tour

  67. I visited them ALL. Even the two that somehow materialized after I went to bed last night. Not an easy task.

You do, of course, have a few rebel links – takes you to a blog where there is neither a tour nor a mention of one. And a few dead links – no bloggy home – but overall I’d say y’just gotta love that Mr. Linky. What if you’d had to add all those links manually? He’s definitely one bit of blogwear worth donating to.

I like the Christmas tour idea. And since “Annual” is in the name, I’m assuming there will be another regular tour next summer? Wouldn’t it be fun to see any before/after shots comparing this time to next time? I say that as though we all re-decorate on a yearly basis. *snort*

Boo, it was out-of-control, over-the-top, bloggity fun, my friend.

Okay, time to go unpack now.

  68. I loved participating in this … I’ve enjoyed hearing from people who came to see my home and I’m still going through the list as I have time to see everyone’s home. The hardest part for me is NOT having the time to leave a comment on EACH AND EVERY blog. I really wanted to, but I just don’t have that much time. I hope you do the Christmas Tour of Homes as it’s the only holiday that we decorate for!

  69. I haven’t had a chance to visit everyone yet. Wow at all the participants. My traffic did increase, if only for the weekend, but now I’ve got so many more blogs to read! What fun! A holiday tour sounds wonderful! I don’t do much decorating, but I love to see what others have done.

    You’re an awesome hostess!

  70. What fun!! I didn’t participate, but I will next time. I’m still making my way through the list and getting some fabulous ideas!! Thanks for the enjoyment. It was a great idea and your home is gorgeous!!

  71. I like the idea of the holiday tour. It would be fun to see how others decorate for the holidays.

  72. This was SO much fun! I loved visiting blogs that I would have never seen just hopping around. We left for a little overnight trip and that was somewhere around ninety. Imagine my surprise when I came home and saw 218!!!!

Thank you so much for hosting this! I had a blast! I will be back!

  73. I feel sad that I missed the tour of homes. I was away on vacation, but I will definately participate in December. I love the holidays! Our house is always decorated inside and out!

  74. Hi I surfed here through Mysterious Ladys blog and just wanted to invite you to come and “audition”
over at my place, it is a regular monthly comment game we play over at Wendys Whimsies.
Hope to see you there , the more the merrier and you can play as often as you like over the time period.
Any and all are invited to play !!

  75. It’s been way fun, great idea & thanks for hosting it1

  76. This has been REALLY FUN! Thanks for doing this, I REALLY enjoyed participating (although I was a bit late LOL)!

  77. Boo, it was an OVERWHELMING success and I am honored I was able to participate.

Thank you so much for the traffic that day (I’ve never had so many hits!) and for the continued traffic.

  78. Loved this. Would love to have somebody do a run-down of style and sort them. Wow…the list is overwhelming. Do we have winners so we know what to look at if we are looking for a particular “thing”?

Love your writing style, by the way…challenges me to re-evaluate why I’ve gotten away from “womanly” posting. It’s so refreshing.
