I have tons to talk about – “The Bachelor” (I’m with Big Mama – the ABC folks hauled in a whole new level of crazy for this season), the realtor caravan, the fancy new Lifeway store where Alex and I hung out this morning while the realtors were here, and the unsurpassed customer service I received from our insurance company when dealing with the claim for the unfortunate deer incident (seriously – it was like I was checking into a fancy hotel or something).
But our internet has been down since about 10:30 this morning (no email! I know! and I didn’t even get the shakes!), and now my husband is home, and I really just want to hang out and watch “Dancing With The Stars” and make D watch a portion of “The Bachelor” where the girl who consumed too many adult beverages on the beach group date wakes up from her “nap” and tries to talk.
I never claimed to be highbrow, people.
Also, I want to start a new Bible study…I can’t jump in with anything at my church because of my schedule, so does anyone have a suggestion? I haven’t been in an intensive study since I did Living Beyond Yourself last spring, and I can feel it. Big time. I seem to be more consistent with Bible study when I’m doing something with daily “homework” – so let me know if you have any ideas.
Fascinating post, huh?
Please forgive. Family beckons.
Back tomorrow.

In February, when some drunken idiot hit my (parked) car and pinned it to a tree, I dug in my heels and prepared for a fight with State Farm (my insurance company). Turns out? They’re like insurance from heaven! I ended up not having to spend a single dime, and they dealt with the guy’s insurance company, and aside from my precious car getting demolished, it was a great experience.
Okay. I’m really happy you got that house on the market. However, I just went back through all of September and October blogs and NOTHING about missing girl’s weekend!! I’m crushed! We missed you!!
Beth Moore’s studies — “Jesus the One and Only” “Daniel” “The Patriarchs” and “A Woman’s Heart — God’s Dwelling Place” is about the Tabernacle. ALL Excellent!!! Daniel is the most new — it will definitely make you sit up and look at the world with different glasses on!!!
I’ve heard super raves about “Daniel,” the latest study by Jesus’ sister. Also, I highly recommend purchasing a “Read the Bible in 90 Days” Bible. I have’t read anything “new” yet, but reading it chronologically and intensively is a whole new experience.
Ever heard of Precept Ministries (Kay Arthur)? They have many, many choices of inductive Bible study – by book or by topic. They are really awesome, and they offer differing degrees of “intensity.” Their website is http://www.precept.org, and they are based out of Chattanooga, TN.
your posts are fascinating!
I concur with the Bible study suggestions above (all the Beth Moore studies and Precepts studies), but my favorite is Bible Study Fellowship. It is seven years of study and you can jump in at any time. It meets once a week during the school year and has a fabulous children’s program. I learned more in one year of BSF than I had learned in my first 40 years on earth. You can find a group at http://www.bsfinternational.com. (It is non-denominational, but likely meets at a church). We are studying Romans this year (for the whole year!)
oh, and I forgot to mention that your children learn the same lesson you learn and you would be amazed how much they learn! Starting at two years old! I just love it!
My husband and I are Dancing with the Stars fans too! Go Emmitt!! On the Bachelor–Did anyone notice that Kim also fell asleep during the bedroom party??? Craziness I tell you!! She deserved to go home!
I particularly liked the way the pass-out-on-the-beach girl defended herself later saying “Everyone goes to the beach and takes a nap”. Yeah, wasn’t a nap chicky!!
Beth Moore has some excellent Bible Studies. I also recommend looking at “Experiencing God Day by Day: A Devotional and Journal”.
I too enjoyed Dancing with the Stars tonight… :)
Have really loved Ken Boa’s The Art of Living Well… a study in Proverbs put out, I think, by Standard Publishing or NavPress.
It covers all the bases, as does Proverbs, of course… and, goodness knows, I need to cover mine.
The Beth Moore studies are great! And that fabulous Lifeway store will have all of them. One word about the Daniel study. It is so good, but it is “video driven,” so some of it will be tough to do if you haven’t seen the video. She does have audio CDs of most of her studies if you have a little extra money and want to hear what she says in the videos.
Have you seen the Coffee Cup Bible study series written by Sandra Glahn? I’m currently going through “Java with the Judges” and I have “Espresso with Esther” coming up next. They are nicely broken down into 7 sections per week (although each day’s assignment is not as long as in a Beth Moore study), they have lots of great stuff to learn and contemplate, and: they’re spiral bound (so they lay flat – yay!) AND they have all the Scripture right there in the text. So when she says, “Read Judges 1-3,” the first 3 chapters are right there. Perfect for when you have to quickly vacate the house for a showing – just grab the study and run.
Sorry about your Internet being down – I hate when that happens!
I’m with Jan who mentioned Bible Study Fellowship, Int. I spent 8 years studying with them, but then moved to the smaller, Community Bible Study because they are more accommodating (babysitting for babies and a homeschool class for my girls).
Either and both are a blessing through study, accountability and fellowship.
Two words about today- Project Runway. I am beside myself with anticipation.
Nancy has been doing the Captivating study. Has sounded interesting.
BooMama —
The Frazzled Female is awesome!
http://www.frazzledfemale.com/ And it now has a book to accompany the bible study book.
I’m sure we could all use some help unfrazzling!
Blessings,
Karla
Definately Beth Moores a womans heart, it is awesome. I have done everyone of her studies on my own as a quiet time and has been wonderful.
I am now doing daniel.
Blessings.
Boomama,
B.S.F. is great too. It is also time consuming but they do have a childrens program as well and the kids learn the same study on there level. It is a very deep study.
Do you have a Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) or Community Bible Study (CBS) near you?? I do CBS, and I love it. Great kids program as well.
We’re starting a new study (Isaiah)on the 23rd if you’re interested.
Hi Boomama – I just finished doing Beth Moore’s Believing God and it was wonderful. And it is all online, so you sign up, listen to her, then print out the homework, so you can totally go at your own pace and not miss anything. It is a great faith builder, and I needed an extra dose of faith when we were selling our house 3 years ago.
I am a total Beth Moore junkie. It is sad and pathetic how much I love her stuff. I also enjoy studying World Bible School (with people from Africa or wherever). Talk about accountability. Sign up to teach someone else the Bible through World Bible School and you can’t just NOT do it. The letters you get from people in other far away poor countries will bring you to tears!
I think “Breaking Free” was my favorite Beth Moore study. I love all of them, but I cried like a baby through all her videos in Breaking Free.
I’m anxious to know what you pick.
I just love your wit and your posts. It is nice to see someone being ‘real’ – even if you ‘aint highbrow! ;)
