Glory Revealed

Last Friday when we got home from the beach, I found several delightful little packages in the mail, one of which contained a few CD’s from a Christian music label. Y’all know that I LOVE ME SOME MUSIC, so I couldn’t wait to sit down and listen to the goods.

(Also: for those of you who have commented or emailed to ask how I’m getting free stuff from people, I have no idea. I think maybe it’s because I’m listed with Blog Top Sites, but that’s just a guess. And yes, I am a veritable fount of helpful information.)

It was Saturday night before I loaded the CD’s on our computer and transferred the songs to my iPod. I started listening while I was working on a couple of blog posts, and while I thought two of the CD’s were great, one of them flat-out blew me away. It’s called Glory Revealed.

Glory Revealed – which features Christian artists like David Crowder, Shane & Shane, Mark Hall, Candi Pearson-Shelton and Steven Curtis Chapman, among others – is different from a lot of other stuff I’ve heard lately because every single song is inspired by and rooted in Scripture. And I almost feel like the words “inspired by” are misleading, because if I hadn’t heard the CD I might think Oh, okay – somebody read about Job and then wrote a song about trials. But that’s not it, really.

Because what the songwriters did for this CD was to set Scripture to music. There are a few deviations from the text because of rhyme scheme or verse structure or whathaveyou, but for the most part the lyrics are straight from God’s Word. And as a result, this CD is inspirational in a way that only Scripture can be. It will touch you right down to the very core of your heart.

Glory Revealed was produced by Mac Powell of Third Day, and according to executive producer David Nasser, “the purpose of this project is to celebrate God’s truth through worship.” I especially appreciate that the producers are very clear about the fact that worship isn’t about us; in fact, Nasser makes a point to say that “everything God has ever done, and everything He will forever do, He does with one intent: to reveal Himself and to receive honor and glory.”

To which I say: Yes. Preach on. Hallelujah.

After I listened to the CD about five times in a row Saturday night, I emailed the person who sent it to me with really eloquent comments like “!!!” and “I HEART GLORY REVEALED 4 EVR” and “I’m going to marry track #3.”

I also asked, in a rush of enthusiasm – without stopping to think about the fact that I WAS BEING VERY PRESUMPTUOUS – if he would please send me some more CD’s and let me do some kind of giveaway on my blog.

AND DO YOU KNOW WHAT WAS ON MY FRONT PORCH TUESDAY AFTERNOON?

gr.JPG

So if you’d like to be eligible lay claim to one of these twelve copies, here’s what you have to do:

Leave a comment, making sure your email address is oh-so-accurate. And for kicks, tell me the name of your very favorite recording artist of all time ever (for me, it’s a four-way tie between James Taylor, Watermark, John Mayer and Chris Tomlin – and yes, I enjoy a singer-songwriter).

That’s it!

Tomorrow night at 7 o’clock central I’ll turn off the comments on this post, and then I’ll (quite literally) put everyone’s name in a hat. The four year old will draw twelve names out of the hat sometime this weekend, and if you’re one of the twelve, I’ll email you to get your address so I can mail your copy to you.

I’m so excited about being able to share this CD with people. And even if you don’t “win” a copy in my little drawing, you can still go here for a free song download and a coupon for $5 off the CD purchase price.

Finally, many, many thanks to the folks at Provident Music for the bloggity hook-up. Some of you are going to be mighty blessed as a result.

And that just tickles me to death.

Edited to add: I’ll leave comments on until around 10 pm central. Mainly because we’re going out to supper, and I don’t think I’ll be here to turn off comments at 7. And contrary to what you might think, I do not wear the computer on a chain around my neck in public.

I only do that at home.

  1. Boomama, I heard about this CD a week ago when Mac Powell was on one of our local radio shows, “Rick & Bubba”. I’m so eager to hear this CD and hope I’m one of the “chosen”!!!

My all-time favorite artist, especially the Christian genre, would have to be KEITH GREEN. I saw him in concert before he died, and it was the most awesome concert I’ve ever been to.

He was way ahead of his time and such a deep, spiritual thinker. He music to me, is timeless.

  2. Oops! Should have read *his* music to me is timeless!

  3. What a fun idea! Thank you!

I have a few favs at the moment…some ol’ favorites are Rich Mullens, Keith Green, and Michael Card. These artists were/are great musicians at composing deep rich Scriptural songs!
I do love Sara Groves right now at the moment too. –Bella

  4. Thanks, BooMama, for thinking of your faithful readers and sharing the wealth!

My favorite of ALL time musician is a tie between James Taylor and Alison Krauss.
Christian music right now is Casting Crowns (I love love love The Voice of Truth), TobyMac (another old DCTalk Jesus Freak), and of course Stephen Curtis Chapman!

    Thanks!

I love your blog -I’ve lurked for months now. :)
My all time fave is the wonderfully smooth and mellow Sweet Baby James Taylor. My other faves are Corrine Bailey Rae (she’s Norah Jones-y), Stephen Curtis Chapman, TobyMac (thanks to my 12 yr old son) and Ginny Owens.
    have a great Friday!

  6. How fun is this? My favorite group would be…Mercy Me…maybe the Newsboys too. I’m anxious to at least hear this CD…it sounds wonderful.

  7. I have trained you oh, so very well to love the singer-songwriter. :)

    And Provident Music Rocks.

  8. Cinde James says:

    Hey BooMama –
I am new to the blogging community and found the link to your site from the LPM blog. I keep coming back because your writing style and sense of humor just intrigue me…the stunt pillows and professional gravy drinking just had me rolling!
I heard about this CD on a Christian Radio Station and if I don’t win one I will definitely purchase it! My favorite Christian artist of all time is Nicole C Mullen (Redeemer and When I Call on Jesus). Toby Mac would be a close second because my kids dig him!
    Blessings ~ Cinde

  9. Favorite of all time? Gotta be Barry Manilow. Thanks for your generosity!

  10. i am so weird..my all time favorite i think is Cynthia Clawson…well and Amy grant and now Sara Groves…and Selah…too many great people.

So glad you love this..cant wait to hear..

oh and have you ever heard of Ronnie Freeman?? he sings this song called “LOVE THE LIGHT” on the “Get out of this pit” full length music cd and it is AMAZING! in fact many of the song on that cd are amazing ..i have been listening to them over and over…check it out..

  11. Ok, the offer of a free CD (or just the temptation of the possiblity) pulled me out of lurkdom. :) Favorite artist? Casting Crowns…hands down.

  12. Sarah Kate in WA state says:

CASTING CROWNS!!!!! AND SARA GROVES!!! AND CHRIS TOMLIN!!!! AND STEVEN CURTIS CHAPMAN!!!! (Here’s hoping the “exclamation point vibe” transfers through to your sweet Alex, and he’ll mysteriously be drawn to choose my name!) :) Just kidding – either way, I’m gonna have to go out and get me one of these CDs! Loved, loved, loved the demo clips!

  13. I love Steven Curtis Chapman!

  14. Without a doubt Rascal Flatts. Hubby and I haven’t missed a concert here they’ve had here. LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM! Did I mention I love them?

  15. okay that “a concert here they’ve had here” totally wasn’t meant to come out that way. Guess I got all giddy! ;)

  16. Gotta say James Taylor- add me in!

  17. Its too hard to pick one – mine would be Steven Curtis Chapman, Chris Tomlin with a runner up of Selah and David Crowder.

  18. Favorite is tough since I seem to go through phases of listening to one CD for weeks, and then move on to another. So, if I were stranded on a desert island, what 3 CD’s would I want to have? Garth Brooks: Double Live–cause it’s got ’em all; Wynonna: Her Story–cause it’s got a lot of ’em AND “I Can Only Imagine” which turns me into one very large goose bump every-single-time, and Ruthstrom and Robertson: Out of the Shadows, just cause I love their music, and it feels like visiting with an old friend whenever I listen!

  19. Hey Boo Mama~
I love, love James Taylor too, and the new girl Corrine Bailey Rae has a great sound as well. As far as a christian artist I loved Keith Green and he had a great testimony! Lately I have enjoyed some of David Phelps, he sings from his heart! :)

  20. melanie says:

    Gayle

  23. Hi Boo Mama,

it is really hard to choose just one, but I would have to say -Jars of Clay. I have been listening to one of their albums off and on, often on-exclusively for about 4 years now. I can beat a dead horse, it seems… something about that album just speaks to me. Steven Curtis Chapman would probably be my next pick.

enter me in the contest! the cd sounds great!!

  24. hey, boo mama!
fave artist — watermark. the best!

    hugs!
    mamabeck

  25. Oh, what fun!

    Stephen Curtis Chapman

    4 Him

I’m international and haven’t heard of some of the artists on this cd. (shhhhh! Don’t tell!) Can I still play?

    Sometimes I do.

  33. Over the Rhine! LOOOOOOOOVE them.

  34. My major regret in life is never getting to a Petra concert and hearing John Schlitt in person. I love Petra!

  35. Shane and Shane! I love anything acoustic and those boys can sing!

  36. As I was reading I was thinking…how can I get a copy of that CD, it sounds awesome. So…my favorite artists are Billy Joel and Third Day.

  37. I saw someone else mentioned this, too, and it’s true for me as well. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Indigo Girls…always have, always will. I am a big James Taylor fan as well. Thanks for doing this.

  38. i was reading and thinking that the music would not be my style since I tend to like gospel music when it comes to the Christian genre, but I went to their website and listened to the clips and was pleasantly surprised! they have a really nice and contemporary sound.

My favorite artists are Mary J. Blige and Whitney Houston (bless her heart).

  39. My favourite musician is my husband. He plays the guitar at home only and I can sit and listen to him play all night. He is self taught, but played in chruch when he was younger.

Other than that? country music is my fave. Reba, Garth, Faith, etc

  40. Oh, just my kind of contest. I am desperate for some new music but committed to not buying anything while we work to pay off our debt. (Doing FPU these days.)

I have too many favorites to list but the ones currently on my playlist are Newsboys, Casting Crowns and Mercy Me. I used to listen to Point of Grace non-stop and I still like to sneak in a occassional tune from them as well.

  41. Oh dear…so sorry but I’m one of those people who has scarcely ever heard of, let alone heard, any of the aforementioned artists. So I would have to say that my choice of favorite recording artists of all time would be a tie between violinist Giuliano Carmignola and the Venice Baroque Orchestra. Does that count? :) And, by the by, I think I should let you know in this brief spurt of delurking that I am utterly and thoroughly addicted to your blog.

  42. Favorite artist…10 years ago I would have said Audio Adrenaline…today I will say Chris Tomlin. Interesting how our tastes change! Great contest! Thanks for sharing these with us!

  43. Ugh! Only 4? For real?! :-( That’s a tough one, Boomama! Feels like SUCH a permanent commitment to put it in writing and hit send!

Gotta say . . . U2, Alison Krauss, John Mayer & Nichole Nordeman.
(but ask me again tomorrow & it may change!)

  47. Favorite artists in last 7 years: Third Day. Pre-saved: Sting

  48. Okay, I just can’t pick one favorite, so…Rich Mullens, Andrew Peterson, Third Day just to narrow it to three.

    Steve Green
    Old school, I know
Thanks for your daily cheers, BooMama!

  52. Favorites of all time: Watermark, Delirious, Matt Redman and love me some Amy Grant! :)

  53. The CD sounds great! I’ll have to look for it if I’m not a lucky winner.

Rich Mullins, far and away the best songwriter I’ve ever listened to. “Hard to Get” from his last CD got me through some challenging times. And “Sometimes By Step,” and of course “Awesome God.”

    Thanks for the contest!

  54. First I should confess, I am a(I would like to say recovering but I’m not so sure about that) lurker…there I’ve admitted it…hopefully this is my first baby step in many steps to come to actually leaving a comment or two…I love coming to your blog…I was hoping to link to you but wasn’t sure about etiquette but since you have recently addressed that I guess I’ll just go ahead and do that then! :)

  99. Wow if I had to choose – well there is no one like U2 in our generation and I have always loved Third Day – and please don’t hate me ’cause I know this may be a sensitive issue and it really isn’t and issue for me ’cause I live in the great white North (Canada) but I like the (whisper)Dixie Chicks.
