I have SO loved reading your comments about our Martie Takes Manhattan trip (which probably won’t be until the end of the year, just FYI) – and now I can’t help but wonder:
What is the one place in the world you would absolutely love to visit but haven’t yet? What’s your dream destination?
For what it’s worth, here are my top three:
1) London
2) San Francisco
3) Madrid

My dream destinations are Alaska, Hawaii, Europe. Been to New York and loved it!
Holy cow! I’m a lurker and I’m first! Maybe I’ll win the bag giveway from Shannon next!
Right now I’m on a Prague kick. :)
In Dec of 2005 I had the choice to go anywhere I wanted for one week ALONE…it was supposed to be my “reward” for caring for my dying MIL…after a whole 5 minutes of thought I picked OKC:-D Now I live here and I don’t want to be anywhere else:-D God is here in a BIG way!
Maine, Alaska & Switzerland.
Do you see a common thread here :D
I’ve been to Spain, but I haven’t see the rest of Europe, and I’d love to.
But Alaska is at the top of my list – and I’d like to see Canada too.
That’s a great question. I’ve been to Brugge, Belgium, but would LOVE to go back and spend more time. From places I haven’t been though, geez, maybe somewhere in Austria or Switzerland???
London. London. And then London.
ITAAAALLLLLLYYYYYYYY!!!!! (Italy!)
:-)
I really want to go to Ireland & Scotland because my ancestors are from both. Would go to London while I’m in that vicinity.
Italy…lots of places there.
Australia and New Zealand
The Island of Oahu…I’ve been to Maui and LOVED it, but want to go back to Hawaii because it is paradise!
So, if you come to San Francisco anytime in the near future, I could show you around. Look me up, I’m really tall and have blue eyes, brown,er, I mean brown and graying hair.
I lived in SF for 2 years and now live about 4 miles north of the GG bridge. It’s beautiful out here!
My 3 are Africa, in which I am going next June on a 3 week Mission trip to Kenya.
Spain
England which is also in the works.
I am also contemplating India which is a great possibility.
I love to travel….
Well, I’ll travel with you because I assure you that the only place P cares to travel is 30 minutes south to hunt and fish.
I’d pick London, the Amalfi Coast, and Austria. It’s a Sound of Music thing.
WALES! Also Norway, Russia, Greece.
Well, I grew up in Alaska, and I can’t imagine that there’s any place on earth prettier, but if I had to choose…I’d like to go Ireland. Something about those rocky pastures is so peaceful and serene.
London is so expensive right now and San Francisco(is San Francisco). San Francisco is ok but I would take New York or Chicago over them.
Would love to see Italy, and the Holy Land.
There are far too many to list but top three? New Zealand, Mongolia, UK (I can’t pick just one city!).
I lived in San Francisco for a year. Moved there alone at age 22 and had a blast. Christmas caroling with my coworkers on the trolly in the city comes to mind. So do day trips to Santa Cruz boardwalk and the beaches at Monterey where we could watch seal pupping season in progress.
And my list;
-Tibett
-Israel
-Africa
For years now, it has been my dream to go to Uganda and meet the kids (and their families) that we support through Compassion, International.
We’ll be going to Liberia soon to pick up the kids we are adopting and I’d go there again and again in a heartbeat (if it didn’t cost $2500 per person!) to expose myself and my kids to their first homeland.
Also Italy, but I don’t have a reason for that one. It just seems cool. :P
I want to go to French Polynesia and stay in one of those hut / bungalow’s that is over the water, where you can slide back part of the floor and see in the ocean. CRAZY, I know!!!
I want to go in a hot air balloon over the serengeti to see the animals in the wild. I also want to cruise to Alaska. And I’d love to go to Fiji or some other island in the middle of nowhere and just stare at the sea thinking of how majestic our God is. Of course I would get a tan at the same time.
Oh, and Big Mama, we did the Sound of Music tour in Salzburg and don’t get your hopes up about prancing around the benches in the gazebo singing “I am 16 going on 17” because you can’t. It’s closed. An old lady fell and broke her hip (or leg or something) doing just that. It’s not funny at all, but I can’t stop laughing when I think about it.
I’ve been planning a trip to Hawaii since I got married 6 1/2 years ago. We were targeting our 5th anniversary, but we had a bunch of babies really fast and now were shooting for #10.
italy, alaska, hawaii
i’ve never been to ny and haven’t ever really wanted to.
i have been to san francisco. enjoyed that a lot and loved northern california as a whole. i would go back to carmel and big sur in a heartbeat.
I LOVE trips, but mostly the ones in my dreams….
1.) Greece
2.) Austria
3.) Spain
Been to my first three:
England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.
Ok, the first four.
Now, it’s:
Moscow
Kauai
Greece
BTW- I did MY in July many years ago. Warning- don’t try the Empire State Building in July. Those last two flights of stairs, the thin air and the heat/humidity will KILL you. I was dripping, soaking wet in TWO flights of stairs.
Try December. Or get a postcard.
:)
uh, that was NY. Duh!
My dream vacation is Banff and Jasper in Canada. By train. So expensive, though!
:)
Ireland
Italy, Paris, London, Australia, Europe, the Holy Lands, the parts of the US I haven’t seen. *sigh* I want to travel, but have neither the time, the money, or the energy to do so.
Any city in Spain. My aunt and uncle are moving there for a year and I’m so hoping to go for a visit! And recently I decided that I want to go to Buenos Aires. Ole’!
Right now my top places to visit are Belgium and southern Germany, especially the area near the alps.
We went to London a few years ago and it was my favorite large city I’ve ever visited, totally amazing and somewhat magical. I highly recommend it–also we loved North Yorkshire, and met really nice people in all of England. I’d go there again in a heartbeat–and I love it that they speak
English:-)
I’ve been blurking for awhile now :) but since I live in Madrid just had to comment! I’d love to show you the sites, so come on over ;)
1. FIJI – Please, Lord, send down a huge check before I die so I can go stay in one of those bures on the beach! Is that a selfish prayer?
2. HAWAII
3. NYC with my husband. He’s never been!
There’s a big water tower that’s painted like a peach in Gaffney, South Carolina. I’d go see that.
And there’s a place somewhere in Georgia or Alabama that sells unclaimed airline baggage. That would be pretty cool too.
Seriously though, I’d say Scotland, the Pacific NW, Italy and Australia.
OK – my top three are:
Scotland – cause that’s where my hubby came from
Hawaii – cause it’s HAWAII!
Italy – more specifically Rome
Now if I just stop buying Oreos, I might be able to go in 20 or 30 years :)
I want to go to Ireland – my husband said he’ll go with me when he can drive over there. He’s afraid of flying! I’d also like to go to Italy.
1. Europe– ALL of it
2. Holy Land
3. NYC with lots of shows and food
Oh my – what fun.
My top 3 are
1. New York City
2. London
3. Ireland
And guys, when you come to Africa, do stop off in South Africa and come visit me in Johannesburg. But even if you don’t, you must, must, must go to Cape Town.
Greek Isles, Germany, Italy, and back to Ireland again.
I LOVE to travel, and hubby likes to see new things, but he must be drugged before he gets on the plane…and out trips must have lots of “recovery” time between them. Bummer…
I guess that means I just have to pick up the slack with girlfriend trips…fine w/ me!
My top picks are:
1. Norway
2. Amalfi coast or Italian Alps
3. Actually anywhere in the Alps
4. Barcelona
5. French Riviera
My favorite show is the Amazing Race. I get to travel vicariously through the contestants because I know I’ll never get to any of those places.
We were blessed to live in Germany for 3 and half years thanks to the Air Force and we traveled a lot. I’ve even been to Turkey! But Prague and Rome are two of the cities we didn’t make it to, that I would love to see. Also, I’ve never been to an island in the Carribean.
Italy
Hawaii
I’ll make it to both someday.
I have to say that we went to my “dream destination” last summer for 10 days…
The Turks and Caicos Islands and we stayed in a beach house on a very private bay called Sapodilla Bay.
It was the MOST INCREDIBLE place I have ever seen! The water was a blinding turqoise color!
I’d love to go back to London with you…and I’ll go to Austria with Bigmama…
I’d love to go back to NYC and stay longer.
Maine
Europe for about 3 weeks
Alaska
1- Venice
2- England, all of it
3- St. Petersburg
Definitely Jerusalem! Then Italy and Germany. My ancestors came from Germany, so that is why I’d like to go there someday, after I’ve been to Jerusalem and Italy! LOL
1. Greece
2. Hawaii
3. Hollywood
4. Ireland
Scotland – my heart longs for Scotland and Ireland and has for years. Must be all these darn FRECKLES.
And Cancun – I’ve always told my kids when they ask for something impossible “Yeah, and I wanna spend a week in Cancun, but we don’t always get what we want now do we?”
But then – I’m a mean mom that way. :-\
My dream destinations:
1) London
2) Paris (again – went in high school)
3) Anywhere in the Carribean
Ireland. Wales. Australia. ummm is that one?
also- I want to go back to:
Santorini and Venice… I didn’t get to see everything… it would be like going for the first time.
oh. and my own bathroom. alone.
The top three places I’d love to visit are: Tuscany, Alaska and Ireland.
1) ROME!
2) Holy Land
3) Australia or Alaska
I will never have enough of England or Australia so I will always want to go back.
It’s so hard to narrow the ‘never beens’ down to three! 1) Italy 2) Spain 3) Greece 4) Cook Islands 5) Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon.
London and Rome.
I’ve been to Paris, but it was only for 24 hours and I wasn’t with Ben. I want so badly to go back with him, but he’s a lot like D. He has no desire to go anywhere overseas. But he has a desire to make me happy, so the boy better get it in gear. He’s got 13 more years before our 25th!
If I promise to not be intrusive could I please, please, PLEASE follow y’all around NY. Oh My, that would just be the best! Just THE BEST!
1. Spain
2. Australia
3. Alaska
I remember learning all about Spain in HS spanish class and have always wanted to go. I think Australia would be beautiful!!
Without hesitation, mind is Ireland. I read a book once set in Ireland that made me fall in love with it. It might not be as good as the book described, but I would love to find out.
mine are anywhere in England and NYC!
I love london..been there twice, you will love it booomama..if you go get the book “born to shop london!” they have a NYC copy you might want to get for MAR-TAY!;;;
I mean this in a totally non-bragging way. Really. But being an American living overseas, I’ve done the foreign country thing. I so want to see more of the U.S. I’ve been to enough countries. So my top choices are:
1. Hawaii
2. Alaska
3. Yellowstone
That may sound boring to some, but I really do miss the U.S. a lot right now!
That may sound boring to some, but I really do miss the U.S. a lot right now!
*****
To Toblerone
I think *I* cornered the market on boring lol I have NO desire to leave the U.S. because I haven’t seen all of it yet! I grew up in Florida so living in Oklahoma now is amazing with all the wide open spaces! This is like a little bit of heaven lol
1) Lanai, Hawaii
2) Switzerland
3) Italy
Iceland and Ireland and Scandanavia
I’d love love love to go to any of these spots.
blessings,
karla
This blog is so fun to read! I enjoy reading the comments and this one has been particularly fun getting to see where people want to travel to and where some of you are at right now!
Top 3?
1) Italy
2) London
3) New England (in the fall)
I have a friend vacationing in Italy and one in Greece right now. I guess I’ll have to live through them for now!
We haven’t been able to go anywhere for the last couple of years due to our children’s college tuition, daughter’s wedding, etc. So, honestly, I’d just like to get the heck out of town!!!
1. London
2. Ireland
3. Maine
I would love to visit Tuscany some day.
For my other 2 I would anywhere else in Italy, and Australia (cause I have a friend there).
1. China or Japan or Hong Kong.
2. Mayan and Incan ruins in south America.
3. Rome, Italy
4. San Francisco
I could name 100 more! NYC is great though, something interesting and FUNFUNFUN 4 everyone.
Just got back from South Padre w/the fam & it was great! Hope we all get to our dream places sooner than later. God bless.
MoscowBerlin and other WWII/Nazi-related sites (scheduled as a graduation gift for my niece – she, my mom, my sister and me, all together, June 2010)Anchorag, AK
I can’t decide between Italy & Greece. I really just want to eat my way around the world. Any pretty scenery that can be viewed from my table would just be bonus!
I think I’d have to say Hawaii, Alaska and France. Our usual spot to vacation is Rocky Mountain National Park and it’s like a little slice of heaven to us.
Ireland, Scotland, Northern Italy.
Now I’m depressed.
Italy, without a doubt..and more specifically Rome & the Vatican. I’m not catholic but I have a huge love affair with the Basilica! :)
And the food? The food? What can be better than REAL ITALIAN FOOD!?!?
BooMama,
I have been reading your blog for months but this is the first time I have posted a comment. I have had the opportunity to travel to a number of countries over the past 10 years. I am a little spoiled in the travel dept. I would love to travel to Israel, Thailand and the rest of the 50 states that I have not yet been to. While I have traveled the world, my continental travels are quite limited.
Have a great time in NY!
Glo
Man, it must be that time of year because so many posts are about vacations right now. I couldn’t choose among Paris, Hawaii, England’s Lake District or Alaska.
It’s actually easier for my hubby to list the countries he HASN’T been to; however, that has not been my good fortune. Without hesitation:
1. Italy (all of it, but after the touristy stuff and visiting Vesuvius, I’d like to eat and drink until I get my fill in Tuscany)
2. Greece–my hubby has been there and the pictures were so gorgeous that I actually dream about them. Plus, we have a Greek friend and went to his Greek wedding a couple of years ago, and let me tell you, those are my kind of people!
3. New York, which is in the works with my best friends Toni and Joye as our gift to ourselves when we turn 40 (that’s 5 years from now–here’s to hoping I won’t be pregnant)
There are many other places, too, but you asked for 3…anywhere I can go with that gorgeous guy I married and explore and just be in awe of all of the different scenery and people God created, with a little bit of romance thrown in, sounds heavenly to me.
But I think right now the most exotic destination I can think of is to be alone in my enormous bathtub with the jets going and the music playing WITHOUT seeing little fingers poking out from under the other side of the bathroom door. No matter the planning, I know I’ll never make it there.
Italy…and we’re going next summer for our 10yr anniversary with TLo and her hubs! I have one year to learn me some I-talian!
I would love to travel to Pennsylvania (Amish country), New York, and Maine in the U.S. Outside the U.S. I would have to say Ireland, Austria, and Italy. Anywhere is good because learning about other places expands our mind. Check out earthroaming.com for all your traveling dreams.
