So I write things here?
Yes?
Is that how it goes?
Okay.
So.
We’ve been in Memphis for the last several days. We went to see my brother and his family, and because we’re a fun and kicky bunch, the weekend turned into sort of a mini-family reunion. Mama, Daddy and Sister were there (unfortunately, Sister’s hubby had to finish up a work project this weekend and oh, we did miss him), along with D., Alex, Brother, Janie, my two nephews and me.
We ate way too much, stayed up way too late, slept way too little and had a whole bunch of fun.
We had Extra Special Guests, too: Janie’s parents came over Friday night for burgers and the fried green tomatoes and sweet potato fries I mentioned in the previous post. Last night my aunt and uncle from Arkansas and my dear friend Bubba joined us, and my brother cooked approximately 364 pounds of ribs on the grill.
Surprisingly, it was more than plenty for the, you know, THIRTEEN OF US.
This morning D., Alex and I made a little detour on our way home so that we could go to church with some of our favorite people in the whole wide world, and I will even go so far as to specify that Emma Kate was one of those people, because it brings her great joy to see her name ON THE INTERNET. IN LIGHTS. RIGHT WHERE IT BELONGS.
I’ll be back in a little bit with some pictures. If I can manage to stay up past 8:30.
At this point I just can’t tell.

I just found your site this evening & I have to tell you…. It’s great!! I love the design you used as well as the posts I read thus far. My favorite post that I just read was your one about “Chutes and Ladders”. I would have made my comment on that post, but it was closed. I have 5 children. They range in age from 16 1/2 down to my youngest who will be 4 in 3 days. Anyway, I remember playing with my 11 year old when he was four. I vividly remember my frustration I had 7 years ago with Austin as you had with your Preschooler. I remember feeling so guilty for feeling so frustrated, but I feel so much better that you and the others commenting on your post felt the same way I did ;-)
Thanks again for a great Blog!! I will be making this a favorite!!

I miss Memphis — my grandparents bought a house in the “Sherwood Forest” subdivision at the end of WWII and lived there until after grandpa passed in 1990 and we had to move grandma out here in 2000. I spent every summer back there growing up. I remember the White Castle, the Pink Palace with the miniature circus, and the Peabody ducks.
My mom worked at WKNO as “Princess Diane” back in the 50’s. It was a puppet show thing and she was the hostess. Something like that, don’t really know more than that.
Anyway- good times, good memories, good grief. What a long comment.
:)
Sounds like you had a great weekend. :-)
BTW, I made the sweet potato fries you mentioned. I just have one word to describe them… AWESOME!!!! I will never eat another “regular” fry again. :-) Thank you, again, for the recipe. :-)
You were in Memphis and you didn’t come by for some banana pudding or somethin’? Well, I never! ;)
Please entertain us with some family drama from the weekend-
I made the Squash Supreme and Cranberry Orange congealed salad today- They were both big hits with the family!!!
Oh, Lord, Boomama, don’t go forgetting what to do with the blog. We’d all miss you to much!
Glad you had such a great weekend!
Glad your weekend was such a success! How neat that you met Emma Kate and family. :)
what a fun time! you mean you have relatives from my neck of the woods? arkansas? why they could be my neighbors. i’m going to start asking everyone if they know a boomama.
Welcome home BooMama! Between you and Big Mama traveling- I hardly have anything to read!
Ohh! You’re vacations sound like mine (i.e. – lots of fun, lots of food, sleeping too lite, and up too late). I always come in dragging and needing a ‘vacation’ from my vacation!
So glad you are back, BooMama. Bloggy-world is just not the same without you. I’m happy to hear you had a wonderful time with family and friends. By the way, how was Bubba?
Seems everyone went on mini-vaca’s this weekend. We left Friday and headed down to Orange Beach. And Oh how I didn’t want to come home!!
Glad y’all had a great time! Can’t wait for the pics!
Sounds like fun! I guess it’s true that all family get togethers in the south are pretty much the same. I got together with all my husband family over Memorial Day and it went pretty much the way your Memphis weekend went. Ain’t “southern” fun!
Blessings,
Georgia Mom
Boo, you simply must contact me the next time you are in Memphis. We will have to “do lunch” or at least tea at Anna Rene’s in Oakland, outside Memphis. I am just sick I did not get to meet you in person. Promise me, and I mean pinky swear promise, that the next time you are in town and could squeeze out an hour or two that you will let me treat you to lunch or dinner at one of our fine eateries! This is a genuine invite and not just a polite Southern gesture! Blessings.
Okay Boomama,Stop it- you are making me FAT!!!
I HAD to cook those tomatoes tonight to go with my leftover Squash supreme from yesterday- not that there was too much left over-
Anyway, the tomatoes were awesome!
Thanks for sending all the recipes-
Hey, you were up in my neck of the woods! Sounds like the quintessential Memphis trip – lots of good Southern cooking, and most importantly, ribs.
You can’t go there now!!! You have to come back at the end of the month. Oh, I’m gonna pray all the harder about it now…
