Because I’m Sure You’ve Been Terribly Concerned

It would just be wrong if I didn’t let you know that our internet AND our cable came back on last night. Apparently it was “an area problem,” and when entire areas are affected by an outage, the cable people hop to it, all johnny-on-the-spot and such.

Of course, I like to think that they read my post and were skeered.

Because I am delusional.

In other news, it’s still unbearably hot.

In fact, it’s so hot that I wouldn’t let our dogs stay outside last night. Our dogs were always inside dogs until we moved, at which point Maggie the Lab decided that the indoors caused her to yelp repeatedly. Because CHAIRS! ROOOOOOO! TABLES! ROOOOOOO!

Ally the Mutt, on the other hand, was still absolutely fine with the indoors, because the rugs, oh the rugs are so delightfully soft and the windows, well they are spectacular because they afford a view of all the many unsuspecting creatures that she one day plans to chase, but these things are no fun at all, apparently, without Maggie. Since Maggie wanted to be outside, preferably in the garage, Ally wanted to be outside, and – I think you see where this is going – they have both been outside, except when it was cold, ever since.

But last night it was hotter than blue blazes at midnight, and they were panting like crazy, and I told them that they must come in the house, and that was an order, and here! here! are some delicious bone-shaped, chicken-flavored treats with which I will entice you!

And they were not interested.

So then I took a Very Special Blanket and spread it out on the floor, and I said look! look! I am offering you some fabulously plush accommodations, as if this were a Four Seasons for puppy dogs, and yet they were still not interested. They just stood at the kitchen door, panting, waiting for me to up the ante a bit.

But then Ally took another look at the chicken-flavored treat. And she took a bite. And then, as she ambled into the kitchen, she looked around and was all, “Hey. It rocks in here. I’m all about it, Mama.”

Maggie, however, wouldn’t budge.

Because LAMPS! ROOOOOO! And APPLIANCES! ROOOOOO!

But then I whispered, “Hey. Maggie. The internet is up again. AND CABLE, TOO!”

Except I think we all know that I didn’t really whisper that at all.

I did, however, offer her two more delicious chicken-flavored treats.

At which point she walked right in the laundry room, refused to lie down, and for all I know stood in that exact same spot until I took those two crazy canines for a walk this morning.

However, she did not ROOOOOOO one time. Not even a ROOO. Or a RO.

Between that and the fast cable service, I think we’re on a bit of a roll.

  1. Oh, BooMama, you do make me laugh! And at this stage in my life, laughter is such a good thing! So glad your cable and internet are both up and running. My days would be so very boring without your blog.

  2. glad you got it all back in line…. hope the heat wave eases so y’all can breathe again!
    :)
i never thought i’d be glad i’m not living in Georgia ……….

  3. We are getting the heat too in Delaware. We even went to the beach the other night and sweated our tails off. Usually there is a breeze at least off the ocean…nothing!! My dog does not do the heat and besides having to do his business has found his spot in the house…right on top of the air conditioning vent.

  4. Maybe she was as stunned by the laundry room as I am when I walk in and realize how much stinking laundry I am always behind on!

Here in Ohio, we are setting our oars to water. Wow. We went from a severe drought to major flash flood rains. Not great at all. My tomatoes? Getting blossom end rot (or at least that’s what I believe it’s called!)

Dogs? Who knew y’all had dogs?

  6. Well told, Friend. A good tale has been spun :)
    Love ya!
    Holly

  7. Why is it never this funny or interesting when I let my dog in?

  8. boomama- i’m giving you the Rockin’ Girl Blogger award. :) i really enjoy reading your blog and thought you deserved it.

    passing along the love.
should make a girl feel good in this unberable, sweltering, make ya lose your ever-lovin-mind heat.
so come on over and get your graphic and revel in your rockin girl self.

  9. You must have some terrifying appliances and furniture – even our barn cat tries to get in our house and our goats have gone so far as to break out a $300 window to get in (more serious fencing measures were taken). I am so grateful to have found you – southern women are supposed to have varying levels of OCD. Being a tad off plumb is a good thing – if it weren’t for DYS – many families in the south would have no functions at all. You are a good doggy owner – bless you – my theology holds that since we will get our heart’s desire and there are already animals in heaven (Jesus returns on a white horse for goodness sakes and all those doves that descend) my dogs will be there too. Too long a response – ta ta for now.

  10. You’re so lucky you have someone you can call on when your pc plays up, in my house that person is me. Me with my non knowledge of html or css me with at best basic capabilies & know-how. Luckily I know how to do most of the things I’m asked like how to bookmark a favourite or add a signature to yahoo mail. Yep that sort of thing I can handle I wish I had my own Daaaaavid – you’re very lucky lol

  11. If it helps at all, I twitched a bit for you when I read that your cable and internet had been out.

Not to pop your balloon regarding them fixing the net so fast, but it ain’t us lowly consumers they’re trying to please. Money talks, and it’s the internet bankers they’re trying to keep happy. Do you realize how much money they may have lost in internet transfers while the net was down???

Blogger is having some issues today as well. I have 2 blogger buddies so far today that have emailed me in a panic because their blogs appear to be blank, just the nav bar is showing. One’s in Kansas and the other is in Ohio so that tells me it’s a Blogger issue, not a personal blog issue.

The only thing more contrary than dogs are cats, men and children, not necessarily in that order. ;D

It’s hotter than Hades here too.

    Love and hugs,

    Diane

  12. Well, take Howard to the pool then.

And, i just thought you’d like to know I’m a lab girl, too.

ROOOOOOOO! That’s exactly what they sound like. I’m amazed at your dog voice ability.

  13. There is nothing interesting about letting the dog in, unless BooMama writes about it. Then it’s hilarious.

  14. It’s like that here too – YUCK, I say!!! This heat stinks and it’s SO humid!!! Man – no cable, I can handle that but NO INTERNET – whoa, that’s NOT GOOD!!! :)

  15. We are melting here up North too, but thanks for the laughs while I am stuck inside in my a/c all day.
    Glad your internet is back!

  16. I did come back to check on your internet status today. I usually only check your blog once a day, but curiosity got me this afternoon!

I’m with you on the heat wave. Our dog got to stay inside the house yesterday because a construction crew was there tearing my yard apart. (See my blog for lots of details. And pictures! I’m without cable in my bedroom because of the nonsense.) He did not much appreciate the air conditioning, though. First thing when I got home yesterday, he was out the door.

  17. So, did you get to watch Top Chef? They will have plenty of reruns if you missed it.

  18. You are lucky that your dogs want to stay out. I can’t get mine out of the house. And when the big one does go out, he comes back having rolled in what we like to call “perfume”, but it’s really just cow poo. He thinks he smells fancy. He is sadly mistaken and has to sleep outside.

Mama don’t want cow poo in the house.

Anyway, I feel ya sister. It’s oh so hot in these parts as well. Makes me want to sing “Heat Wave” and do a little hip shake and arm wave. But I won’t. Don’t worry.

  19. My mother’s tiny 5-lb. miniature Pinscher is in her tiny little broiled glory with this miserable weather. This dog who spends 5 minutes max outside in gorgeous 75-degree weather loves to spend the day in the hot hot sun, telling the neighbors who’s boss. Then she comes inside smelling like butter and Fritos, in the worst possible way. I love butter and I love Fritos, but not when they seem to be emanating from the dog in cartoon odor lines.

  20. Thank you for that much needed laugh today. You are priceless and I so appreciate you sharing your way with words with us.

Our Golden Retriever is the exact opposite and likes to bark because in her opinion, it is much more important for her to be indoors with us, than outdoors alone, where her long, shedding hair can fly away. Instead, she would like for me to vacuum much more often than usual-because of her long, shedding hair…

  21. Reading about how hot it is in other parts of the world makes me appreciate the rain that we’ve been getting in our part.

    :)

    Keep hydrated.

Did I read that right? You took the dogs for a walk this morning? It was probably 95* at 9 am here in MS!You are a stronger woman than me- My shih tzu is on her own outside in the mornings during this heat wave of a summer! I got all her hair shaved off so she’d be more comfortable- now the kids call her our bald rat!

  23. Dear BooDogGuruExtraordinaire:

Once planted there, he cannot be moved for any reason. Not even with two adults and two teenagers pulling, lifting swearing or offering any treat. Even the cat.

    Can you help me, please?

    Yours truly,

    Direly Tired in the Desert

  24. I have a trantrum like a 2 yr old when the internet goes down, I can’t live without it, what the heck was I doing before the internet.. ?

  25. I don’t comment very often but I wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your blog.

I love to log on and read your entries while eating my morning or afternoon snack. I am love your sense of humor and willingness to share it!

    Blessings,

  27. LOL! You are a good dog Mama! I’ve kept my cat inside today, much to his dismay–the heat index over here in GA was 107 degrees. This afternoon it was 100 in the shade. We have been inside three days. We are cathing up on videos and don’t even feel guilty not getting anything accomplished outside. I am sooooo thankful for air conditioning. How did we ever survive without it? Growing up we never had it, only a window fan. Thinking back we didn’t have A/C the first eight or nine years we were married.

Hi BooMama! I found your blog through the LPM blog. Just wanted to say I really enjoy it! You are quite delightful! I’m new to all of this blogging stuff, but I’m lovin’ it more all the time! It takes a special person to make bringing in the dogs such a fun read! I’m lovin’ that you love life – Darlene

  29. I feel fairly certain that my dogs would like to run away from home and come live at your house. The best offer I give them is to turn on the ceiling fan on the porch.

You and I both know that doesn’t even come close to chicken treats and air conditioning.

  30. Unbearably hot is right….my makeup is melting off my face from my front door to the car!!! What to do?! I am SO enjoying reading your blog. It is a ministry to my soul!

    Love in Christ!

  31. I just adore you! Thank you again for the laughs and joy you bring into my life!

  32. Hey,

Just got back from vacation in San Diego (well, Coronado to be exact) where the temp reached a oh-so-AMAZING 74 degrees everyday. I LIVED for the outdoors…well…and the beach. However, I LIVE in one of the hottest places known to many of us U-S-A’rs – Phoenix, AZ. Oh yes, I cried when we had to come home to the 106 degree heat. Hangeth thou in there! I’ve been told that summer really does end! HA! Thanks for always making me smile. Really, you seem like someone that everyone wants to dunk their cookie with – just because you are so much STINKIN FUN!! That’s Ok…we all try to make you our virtual BFF – even if it’s just by visiting your blog!
    Cheers and Blessings!

  33. Yippee she’s back!
I gave you an award. Check it out.

  34. I think all of us need to get together and send suggestions to Live! Regis and Kelly show and Oprah, and get you on their shows. You are such an inspiration to so many of us.

  35. BooMama, You absolutely make me laugh every day!! Thank you. I like to get a dose of laughter every day by visiting your site. Please don’t stop.

  36. I noticed how hot it was last night, too! Thanks for the great post–internet detox is not high on my list either. . .I do believe you may have cornered a new market! Like a Panera for recovering email junkies. I have been into Inbox-0 lately–trying to take care of all of those–without letting 20 build up that require some kind of action. Though I read all emails three or so times a day, it piles up like laundry. Glad you’re back.

  37. Barbara Theobald says:

Oh you are too cute……Boo mama :)

I loved it, appliances ROOOOOO, doors ROOOOOO……ha ha ha ha…… I went to Petsmart the other day and there was a dog who had all fours planted on the cement entryway, he absolutely would not come in the store, he held his head down, and would not budge, no coaxing, no bribing…. nothing. His owner said he was absolutly terrified of the shiney floor tiles……. poor thing! Animals are so funny, such a gift God has given us in nature. God does good work!

  38. Hot? Hot. So hot. So incredibly hot it’s like ‘hot’ turned inside out. Or ‘toh’.

  39. I think if I were to let our lab in the house, he’d do more than just ROOOO! Last week, someone (not me) accidentally left the front door open (!) and in the time we were gone, he managed to chew up a brand-new pair of shoes and a whole roll of toilet paper in my bedroom floor.

Thanks for the laugh this morning, though! I REALLY needed it…

  40. Boomama – I love you for this post. Before we got our little boxer I kept saying “Roooo! Rooo!! We need a little Roooer!” So my husband let me get one. Ever since we have called each other and the dog “Roo. Rooie or Roo-bear.” Yes. We’re weird. But everyone who knows me says “Dogs don’t roo. They just bark.” What! Of course dogs roo – and now your post proves it. Thank you!

  41. Is there anyone out there who is’nt MELTING in the HEAT?! I always feel sorry for our animals as they have their own fur coats. Our cats camp out on the cool kitchen floor and then for a change of scenery they move to the laundry room.

School starts in 3 days and then our house will be incredibly quiet. 3 days YEAH!

    have popsicles all :)

  42. Glad the Internet is back up… just in time too… or else we would have missed out on this great story and all of the ROOOOOOs :)

  43. You sound like you spoil your furbabies like I do. Shadow sleeps in our room with the AC on. This has been a gradual process. From a crate in the basement, to the first floor gated off from the 3rd floor bedrooms. He has finally made it to floor 3. Next it will be him in the bed with Dh and me.

  44. I came over here from Melaine blog! She posted about you today! I can see why! What a fun blog. I will be back again!

  45. You are not kidding…I can’t believe how hot it is! Never fear though, we had a cold front move through last night so instead of the 104 we had yesterday, it’s only 99 today. What a relief!

  46. all johnny-on-the-spot and such.

Okay, that made me spit on my screen! I took my car in today to the shop and told them that the air conditioner was not blowing nearly cold enough…. when I picked it up the tech looked at me and said “Its blowing at 50 degrees ma’am, we cant make blow much colder”…. to which I hurried my kids into the car and drove away all embarrassed…

All that to say, I hear ya on the hotness… :)

  47. That is too funny! Loved the post. :)

  48. I may have posted this already, but I wanted to say thanks again for Mandisa CD Giveaway.. I love it.. The song, God Speaking makes me cry..in a good way.
    Blessings to you..

  49. I can relate to the heat. It’s been so dang hot here that our A/C is actually overheating on us…no fun!
