And Now! Some Exciting Announcements!

We just got home from a quick weekend trip, and as I’m sitting here trying to catch up on email, I thought I’d write down the list that’s running on a constant loop in my brain so that MAYBE IT WILL STOP ALREADY.

(OH MY WORD I’M HORMONAL RIGHT NOW.)

(I need to GRAB HOLD OF THE EMOTIONAL REINS.)

(*breathing deeply*)

(Grace and peace be with you, internets.)

(Now.)

(All better.)

1) There are ads on my blog now. I am very excited about this because apparently the ad people will actually SEND ME A CHECK every month. A check that I can then cash and use as REAL LIVE MONEY. Which means that maybe my blogging hobby will actually pay for itself now, as opposed to me helping myself to D’s PayPal account over the course of the last two years so that I could pay for things like blog designs and podcast hosting and bandwidth overages and domain renewals and whathaveyou.

Dedication to a hobby doesn’t come cheaply, my friends.

Unless, of course, your hobby is saving money.

Or being cheap.

In which case you can ignore that previous statement about dedication to a hobby blah blah blah.

2) Some of you have mentioned that you’re having trouble listening to this week’s podcast.

SO AM I!

There seems to be a problem on Libsyn’s end of things. If it’s not all better in the next couple of days, I’ll try uploading the file again and see if that helps.

You may commence with the waiting on the pins and the needles.

Ahem.

3) I did not watch television at all last week. And while some of you may be thinking, “Oh, I bet that was wonderful. I bet you found time to spin flax or make soap or something,” the truth of the matter is that I have missed the television terribly. In fact, I’ve missed the whole TV-watching process: the diet Coke on ice, the soft green coverlet that keeps me warm when I get a little chilly from all the diet Coke on ice, the opening bars of the theme song from “Survivor” or “Amazing Race” or “Project Runway.”

Even though I’m not even sure if “Project Runway” has a theme song.

And if it does have a theme song, I couldn’t hum it right now if you paid me a million dollars.

But still.

So tonight, the TV and I are going to reacquaint ourselves.

I for one am thrilled beyond words.

4) If I could only have three foods for the rest of my life, those foods would be sweet potatoes, black beans and peanut butter.

Surprisingly, fried chicken did not make the list.

I have wanted to tell y’all that for some time now.

What about you?

  1. Bailey's Leaf says:

Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate. Actually, it should be dark chocolate, darker chocolate and dark dark chocolate, but not over about 70% please!

Congrat’s on the extra cash to finance your hobby!

  2. Sophie, YOU have inspired me. And my husband by proxy, but he doesn’t know it.

I stated a week or so ago that I had a hard time committing to a paint color and I finally was talked into “look, JUST look at samples.” So I pooh-poohed over his tangerine and melon colors and then I saw it from across the incandescent and fluorescent lighting. Beautimous, fabulous, lovely. PAINT.

Caramel Sugar. I am so not kidding. Then I fell in love with another, Cinnamon Brulee. We left the large retailer *rhymes with clothes* and went home and watched us some SEC football because after all I am just not ready.

Somewhere between hot cocoa and and warm gingerbread cookies I said, “I want them both.” My husband said he wasn’t sure why I’d want either LSU or Tennessee since he’s a diehard member of the Bulldog Nation, but he smiled and we went to “rhymes with clothes.”

I don’t know if it was HDTV euphoria or the possibility of the Dawgs making it to the Rose Bowl without making it to the SEC championship, but we proudly walked up to the paint counter and said “Caramel Sugar AND Cinnamon Brulee, please.”

It’s now 5 hours later and the bathroom is glowing in warm Cinnamon Brulee. I am in love. Yes, I am.

  3. dr. pepper, popcorn, oranges :o) sooooo healthy, i know, i know…

  4. Firsttimeposterlongtimereader!
I have laughed and cried with your blog for sometime now, and forward the link on to mom, aunt and sistercousin so they can laugh and cry too. I just wanted to say YIPPEE for you getting advertisements and thus PAYMENT for your bloggy fun that brings such joy to all of us. I am so proud that I am going to go click on all of your ads. So There.
    Jamie

  5. I had black beans for dinner! At Chili’s™. They make excellent black beans and rice there. You have to ask for it though, they don’t have it on the menu. I’m Meg-Ryan-in-When-Harry-Met-Sally like that, asking for something they don’t even have on the menu. Anyway congrats on the ads. I’ve wondered for awhile now if you’d ever do them and I’m glad you have because you NEED to get some compensation for the hard work you do here on the blawg keepin’ us all in stitches. You didn’t say WHY you didn’t watch TV last week. I, for one, am curious. I am also curious as to why you are emotional and why fried chicken is not on your list of adored foods, but I am keeping my trap shut and not asking.

  6. see, for me it’s not so much foods that i like but foods-that-can-only-be-found-in-certain-places that i like. milo’s…sneaky pete’s…dreamland bbq…

    [big birmingham sigh]

  7. thin crispy bacon, cheese, chocolate…no particular order

If there was a number four it would be my Mama’s fried chicken with mashed potatoes and biscuits all covered with milk gravy!!!

I think I will call my Mama now and tell her the next time I visit that should be on the menu!

  8. Dark chocolate, Lay’s plain potato chips and steak. I’m sensing a problem with this list! If my boys are reading this what I really meant to say was:
Jonagold apples, whole grain bread and organic carrot sticks!

  9. “spin flax” – funniest thing I heard all day for sure :)

I understand the tv thing though. We put up and decorated our tree tonight and just as we finished I had the realization that I was MISSING THE AMAZING RACE and OH I CAN”T BELIEVE THE AMAZING RACE IS OVER IN 15 MINUTES AND I FORGOT TO WATCH IT!…you know, despite the fact that turning on the tv would have totally ruined the whole home made country christmas tree decorating ambience. But don’t worry, I did catch the last few minutes of the show :)

  10. oh wait, the food…bread, chocolate, and mashed potatoes…

  11. This is a great question – only three foods hmmm….

    Pizza
    Chocolate
    Apples (cold and crisp)

  12. Ooops, while I mentioned flavors in my previous post, I too forgot to post my three favorite things.

Diet Pepsi over ice (Diet Coke will do in pinch)
    &
    Mom’s Lasagna
    &
    Mashed Potatoes

The hubs would be: Bacon, Pulled Pork and Ribs…notice a theme there?

    Hands down…

  13. Leeks, spinach and cheese.

    And yes, I mean that.

  14. Cheese, chocolate, and strawberries. All together on a plate, please. No sharing. Watching a chick flick.

  15. What happened to #4???

My three favorite things (besides my family).
    Mashed Potatoes
    Cheese.
    Cheesy Potatoes.

    I kid you not.

  16. My top 3 would be:

    1. Cereal (any kind, but I’m on a Fruity Pebbles kick right now)
    2. Mr. Bairds Mini White Powdered Donuts
    3. Chips and Salsa/Ranch from Chili’s (We were missionaries overseas when I got pregnant and this was my biggest craving. Of course there was not a Chili’s where we were! We came home when I was 15 weeks along and as soon as we landed after our 15 hours of travel…we went straight to Chili’s. Oh, the ranch…it’s just heaven in your mouth!)

  17. coffee (yes, it is a food or at least it steals calories from what I could/ should be eating in food)

potato soup with bacon and cheese

Tortilla soup or Amanda’s Uncle Wayne’s White Winter Chili. With a dollop of sour cream, a sprinkle of tortilla chips and a handfull of sharp cheddar
Have you tried it? It has black beans!

So glad for your things and stuff and all the blessings going on :)
    Love,
    holly

  18. It cracks me up that you have a coverlet specifically so you can tolerate your drink.

Favorite foods…Dr. Pepper, grilled chicken sandwiches with bacon and avacado, warm brownies with Breyer’s Vanilla Bean Ice cream and chocolate syrup.

Now I’m going to have to have those for dinner tomorrow night…

  19. 3 foods? Only 3?

    Hot crusty french bread

    Ritter chocolate nougat bars

    slow-cooked BBQ chicken

That would sustain me for awhile, I think – at least until the Ricketts set itn.

  20. Bananas (NO SPOTS!), hot crusty bread/butter, and Almond Joy.

(I really wanted to say ‘coffee,’ but I know it’s not really considered FOOD.)

  21. congrats on the ads,,,,you deserve it!

    medium rare steak (well seasoned)

    mashed potatoes

    greek salad

brownies, I’m sorry I cannot do 3 items

  22. So, with the pregnancy weight gain talk, the “OH MY WORD AM I HORMONAL” talk, I/We need to know….

  23. 1. LaMadeleine’s Tomato Basil soup in a jar
    2. Sweet Potatoes
    3. Popcorn

that is so neat about the ads for you to bring in $$$$…you have given much of yourself and your time and your resources…so glad to hear that for you…you are a delightful intriguing person

  24. Hmmm, only three, this is hard….

    1. Chocolate covered raisin

    2. Bing Cheeries

    3. Pasta (of all kinds)

  25. Cucumbers, candy canes and biscuits.

  26. I am wondering what happened to announcement #4. But other than that, my 3 foods would be eggs (seriously…I am an addict…I usually have 2 or 3 a day), fresh raspberries, and avocados.

  27. Hummm………..I’ll have to say cheese, pasta, and chocolate!
I would miss my TV too.
    Nan

  28. Coffee
    peanut butter
    graham crackers

  29. Right there with you on sweet potatoes, and add to that popcorn in vast quantities with that horrible oil movie theaters put on it, and coffee with creamer which I definitely consider to be in the food group.

  30. Black beans? Really? Now, I like black beans too. But not more than bread. Hot, fresh from the oven bread slathered with butter (is that one or two?). I mean, come on. BEANS over BREAD?

I’ve been dreaming that you’re my new best friend, Boo Mama. But now I don’t know. I mean. How can it ever work out? Beans over bread and all?

  31. All these food cravings leave a reader wondering, could there be a BooBaby coming along soon?!

Diet Coke (in the can), salsa and chips, fajitas.

  32. Black beans? Interesting.

Okay, mine are pizza, chocolate, and filet mignon.

And yeah — real live money for blogging — ain’t life grand? ;-)

  33. I was sincerely hoping one of the announcements would be related to some things upon which you have been waiting and vaguely talking about for some time now. And you’re just vague enough to drive me crazy with nosiness.

As for 3 foods….thin sliced homemade onion rings, chocolate truffles and Barq’s root beer.

  34. Congrats on the ads!

    medium-rare steak (well seasoned)

    mashed potatoes

Greek salad (kalamatas, not nasty blk olives)

    Brownies (i’m sorry, i can’t do just 3)

  35. Yes, Project Runway has a theme song. It’s very German disco and it’s like this, “Do dugga do dah do duggah guggah do dugga do dah dah do,”

    remember now?

  36. Well, assuming that health doesn’t come into it…

Hagen Daaz strawberry cheesecake ice cream
Cadbury’s fruit and nut milk chocolate
    Mr Kipling mince pies

  37. Janet (aka JT) says:

    Ghiradelli Chocolate Syrup Brownies

Diet Dr Pepper (there’s no period after the “Dr” in “Dr Pepper” because he never actually finished med school)

Mexican food…hard to pin this down to ONE food, but I’d probably need a steady ration of cheese enchiladas, chips, salsa, guac, and queso if I could only have just a few foods for the rest of my life.

And then, of course, heart bypass surgery and the lap band procedure.

  38. Pinto beans; refried (homemade, not canned, please); cheese of any kind (sans processed cheese type “products”; my grandma’s 6 layer chocolate cake with bananas in the layers. If I combine the refried beans with the cheese can I sneak in one more thing? Avocados served any way, any style; I am a California girl…

Also, Nay on the Holiday sweater…And another alarming trend I have noticed in traveling to 2 cold weather states (CO, MN) in the last 2 weeks is the plethora of middle aged women in various types of vests. Yikes…

  39. Fun question! 3 foods huh? Assuming this is to feed my mouth as opposed to fuel my body, here are my top picks:
    1. petit fours with the almond stuff on the bottoms
    2. Greek salad because life without feta cheese is not living
    3. Granny’s pork gravy & rice
    And now I’m hungry.

  40. 1)Dr Pepper(on most days in mass quantity, but especially in the morning)

2)pasta (if I have to get specific it’s Spaghetti with mushroom meat sauce topped with lots of parmesan cheese)

    3)potato chips (specific-Lays Sour Cream & Onion)

the runners-up would be what we refer to as 3 Layer Pie and macaroni & cheese.

    Such highbrow taste I have…

Drat, now I’m really super hungry.

  41. 3 Favorite Foods:
    Macaroni and Cheese
Chex Mix (good source of fiber and butter)
Sweet Tea (does that count as a food?)

  42. I have a delicious recipe for sweet potato, peanut butter, black bean au gratin. Not really. Would those three food items be related to the “hormonal” issues or is this a consistent thing? I know that when I’m in that hormonal time buttered macaroni and steak are the only food items I want to eat all day long. But, that eventually passes and all becomes right with my world again.

  43. I’m so happy you’ll make some money from your blog. Make it work for you!

My three favorite foods would have to be:

Sesame chicken (but only from a certain place – they have amazing egg rolls and wonton soup, too!)
Pizza (the more toppings the better)
    McDonald’s chicken nuggets

I am the epitome of health. But honestly, I don’t eat those things very often. They’re just the foods I can’t live without. :)

  44. Sausage, Kraft Mac N’Cheese, and Hamburgers… can you tell I’m a high class girl!

  45. Mountain Dew
    Bourbon Chicken
    Sugar Cream Pie

Now, I see why the doctor told me I was a little overweight. He didn’t appreciate it when I told him he was bald.

  46. Mountain Dew
    Bourbon Chicken
    Sugar Cream Pie

Now, I see why the doctor told me I was a little overweight. He didn’t appreciate it when I told him he was bald.

  47. Pasta! Bagels and cream cheese, and chocolate!
You are HI larious! And I am wondering also what a few others have mentioned….

btw when my hubby is not deployed, I read your posts to him. Its kinda one of our things!

  48. just 3. so hard.
    bacon
    chocolate
    bread

  49. Well I couldn’t do the black beans or one of my other foods would have to be Beano!

I’d say: Peanut Butter, an endless supply of fresh Macoun apples, and Tim Horton’s coffee.

    Wait, where’s the chocolate?

OK, make that peanut butter CUPS, apples and coffee.

  50. LOL on the “spin flax” comment! Hee-larious!

    Chocolate, macadamia nuts, whole milk.

  51. I just found your blog through another and it’s so much fun!

I’m off to read more (while my 16 month old slumbers beside me, laughing in her sleep tonight…is there anythese better :o)

Have a very blessed start to the Christmas season!

To the BooMama from The Barefoot Mama :D

    P.S. Mmmmm, Diet Coke!!

  52. You totally deserve it. Revel in your ad cashola!

    Awesome!

    Jamie

  53. I LOVE sitting under a giant blanket watching the tube and drinking diet Pepsi on ice. Sorry grew up far from the Coke-centric South, hope we could still be friends.

    popcorn with lots of butter
    mint chocolate chip
    chocolate chip cookies

    I hate writers strikes……
