Because I Enjoy A Bloggy TV Tradition

So tomorrow night, I’m going to start the 2008 American Idol live-blogging.

And really, I should say “live blogging,” because odds are it won’t actually be live at all. More likely it will be “once-we-get-the-child-to-bed-and-turn-on-the-DVR blogging.” But that phrase doesn’t have as much of a ring to it. So we’ll just stick with the whole “live blogging” designation and pretend.

‘Kay?

And if you weren’t reading here last year, here’s how the whole AI sort-of-live-blogging works.

I’ll write a post with my reactions to the night’s performances, and I’ll put up the post just as soon as I’ve given it a cursory round of proofreading and and run it past my BooMama legal advisory committee.

Which means that I will write my post and read parts of it aloud to my husband, who has absolutely no legal background whatsoever but does watch a good deal of “Law & Order.”

So, hello? He’s, like, TOTALLY QUALIFIED to be my legal advisory committee.

I’ll put up a Mr. Linky with my post, and then you, the internets, can link back to your own specific post about this week’s AI. And while I encourage you to by all means state your honest opinion about the performances, I also encourage you you to remember that we’re talking about real live people with real live feelings. And who probably make extensive use of some real live Google each week after they sing.

Plus, we wouldn’t want to upset any contestant’s mama by saying insensitive things about her baby. Oh no ma’am(s) (and sir)(s) we wouldn’t.

In fact, the phrase “Don’t hate; appreciate” comes to mind. Though I have no idea why. Except that apparently I’m now 22 again. And using all manner of slang.

Anyhoo.

I think that about covers it.

And if you have any questions, just shout me a holla.

Word.

  1. Sounds fun…I’ve been doing AI updates myself over the last few weeks. My faves are in and my must-go’s did sooo…I’m ready!!

  2. I’m excited!! I’ll be tuning in tomorrow :)

  3. I’ve got a teensy case of the giggles ‘cuz where I’m from, ya’ll, “A.I.” means something totally different than anything having to do with singing. Although, I suppose some might think the cows and pigs sing..or squeel or moo…sort of…Oh, I don’t know!

  4. I blog every week about AI. I posted about why I think the hubby and I are qualified at this link: http://cindybeall.com/?p=153.

I actually made myself laugh with this post.

Can’t wait to read yours and laugh myself silly. Cuz you know I do that. Yesireebob, I do.

  5. I will totally post about AI…in fact..I had just talked about that in my most recent post.
    :o)

  6. “And while I encourage you to by all means state your honest opinion about the performances, I also encourage you you to remember that we’re talking about real live people with real live feelings. And who probably make extensive use of some real live Google each week after they sing.”

you’re a wise woman… i have a cousin who’s participating on a different reality TV show this season, and its totally opening my eyes to the fact that they ARE real people… with real feelings.
    yes.
    and
    amen.

  7. This post made me laugh outloud this morning — not that posting about AI is funny, but the part about the qualifications of your legal advisory team! My hubby watches a lot of Law and Order too. I can’t wait to read your reviews…

  8. I will be so thrilled to read your recap. I have Beth Moore Bible study on Tuesday nights and miss it.

    I’ll be waiting to read.

    Word to your mothah

  9. oh, I hope I can remember this, because I totally want in

  10. Shout me a holla…priceless.

  11. I’m in!
    Hope I remember.

  12. So Like, cool! I will join you in this!(said in my valley girl accent) I have watched every AI this season from the auditions to the Top 24 and now the Top 12. I am looking forward to the show tonight. I will not hate but appreciate, okay?!
    Love,
    Patty

  13. I’ve never been an AI watcher, but this year I’ve caught some performances and am already starting to have opinions. This may be the push I need. ;)

  14. Well, Hubs thinks AI is of the devil, sort of, so I have to respectfully decline participation. However, I may cheat and watch since my college roommate’s brother’s friend is the guy from Australia. So, we’re like BFF. Roommate’s brother was shown on AI one night with Australia guy’s wife. Roommate may have taken a picture of her brother on the TV like a certain someone did when her sister was on TV.
    Have fun.

  15. OK I agree with MooBeMa – AI in livestock or horse country means artificial insemination – and I have chosen to NOT go there about this season’s American Idol. Glad you are back in the saddle (so to speak) about your version of AI – haven’t been watching much and probably won’t – somehow there just isn’t the awfulness of Sanjaya or the overcomingness of Jennifer Hudson – ’nuff said – y’all live it up with your AI and may the best person win (right?)

  16. I can’t wait! I decided today that I have problems when I’m in a fabulous mood because American Idol and The Biggest Loser both come on tonight. Can you say get a life??? On a different note, we received a letter from our Compassion child this week. It is the sweetest thing ever, and she drew the cutest pictures that are hanging on my refrigerator. My girls love her! Thanks for introducing her to us.

  17. Word.

    I totally dig you dudette.

OK, I can’t keep it up, so we’ll just move on…

I can’t wait to read your “live” blog about AI. We always Tivo it too, and watch it after the kiddos are all asleep, ’cause otherwise the mama gets REALLY frustrated when her kids interrupt her TV WATCHING!

  18. AI AI Captain!

  19. So.much.fun! Word up! :)

  20. I am so excited about this… I have been blogging AI since last week. Can’t wait to see if we like the same performers…

    Check back in tomorrow!!

  21. go Brooke!!! :)

  22. I won’t be able to chat with you re:AI since I am taking my own leap of faith and traveling overseas myself for the next week :) Hope you enjoy your legal advisor and American Idol this week!

  23. Crystal Ward says:

Can’t wait to see your comments. I knew that you recapped last year, but couldn’t remember if you started at 12 or 24. See ya tomorrow

  24. Golly Boomama, I do hope we can still be friends should it come to pass that we can’t agree on the favorite. I am awfully opinionated when it comes to A.I.

Btw, I thought of you the other day when I tore into a new box of Cheeze-Its only to discover that many of them were burned. Liked to have ruined my entire day.

  25. I love the idea of the live blogging of AI and I am going to have to the dvr thing this week because of my Bunco conflict tonight. I plan on posting some comments tomorrow. At least this year pretty much everyone has a good voice. I’m not putting my head in a stack of pillows when anyone in particular sings. It is nice to have the days of Sanjaya over.

  26. Yay! I’m so glad its that time again!
Can’t wait to read your thoughts!

  27. I’m in Boomama you know I am ;) I’ve been bloggin AI since the top 24 oh yes indeedy. I have a funny fwd I want to send you so I apologize ahead of time. But you’ll want to read it and if its a rerun then I beggeth your pardoneth. BTW Merci at Spit out the cat (if youre clueless I’ll attempt a link) she AI blogged with Mr Linky last year, she was AI bloggin this year but her Daddy got a brain tumor and she’s all occupied with that now if you wanna drop by her blog. In case you didnt know. xoxo melzie

  28. I’m in. I’ve posted a couple times this season about “the most talented group ever”.
I really hope Simon uses his “I LLLLoved it” phrase tonight…about my #1, Jason Castro.
And, oooh, what’s the theme tonight???
    Anyone?

  29. I hope you’ll come and check out my blog of AI recaps from the past two weeks! Just go to my labels on the side-bar and click American Idol! No hatin’!

  30. All I can say is, I’ll try to keep up.

  31. FINALLY. It is aboutstinkintime. Can’t wait!!

  32. This is the first time I’ve watched AI past the try-out episodes. Gasp. I know.

My 7-year old is totally into it now though. It’s hilarious. As I was reading your blog post tonight, she was screaming down the steps to me (computer is in the basement, TV is on the main floor), “MOM! American Idol is on and CHIKEZIE is singing!!!”

I missed his song, darn it, but she assured me that, “The judges passed him, Mom.” LOL

She doesn’t QUITE get the whole “America votes” part. LOL
