Interrupting My Bloggy Break For A Brief Fashion-Related Announcement

NO.

MA’AM.

1992 was fun and all, but I’m not making a return trip. I don’t care how cute Katie’s hair is.

Thank you and have a lovely weekend.

  1. I. KNOW. I’ve been staring at that all week trying to figure out how we slid so quickly down that slippery slope.

    sigh.

  2. Oh. My. Word.

  3. Bailey's Leaf says:

Okay, I pegged in high school and I have to say, I had a better technique than she does.

    YUCK! SAY IT ISN’T SO!!!

  4. Don’t need’em. Couldn’t have them when I was in school, and don’t need’em now.

My flesh looks pegged ALL by itself.

  5. It was wrong back then, and it just ain’t right now! (shudder)

  6. Thank you. I’m so glad someone was willing to address this.

  7. Ok…I can’t do the baggie jeans but I can’t wait for big hair to come back:-)

  8. Wow, we got through the 80’s flashback fashion quicklike, huh?

  9. I guess I’ll go ahead an be the brave one and say it – I loved to wear my jeans like this back in the day! I also loved to get perms and use a gallon of hair spray every day.

Ahhhh…those were the good old days!

  10. will not go for that style!!!! No thank you!

  11. Sigh. This was so fun WAY BACK WHEN and I had a hard time letting it go. Then again, I was in JUNIOR HIGH during this time. And now? THIS IS NOT OKAY. Someone needs to stop her.

  12. :whispers: I think I was too young. I don’t remember this. I have to say that if I saw it on the street, I’d think it was a new look. Yikes.

  13. Can Hammer pants be far behind????

  14. You said it all!!! NO MA’AM!!!!! And since when is it called “pegged”–it is tight-rolling however you paint, it thank you very much, and it is BAAAAAAAAAAAD!!! I’m appalled! :)

  15. Natalie says:

dont shoot me…I think she looks cute…

  16. Lord have mercy, that is one style that does NOT need to come back in style.

  17. Oh come on…it isn’t THAT bad. I mean, at least she isn’t wearing two pairs of scrunch socks or a neon sweatshirt off her shoulder.
Not that I know anything about THAT!;)
    Bring on the Aqua Net!

  18. Oh. No. It. Is. Not.
NO. Absolutely NOT. I think Stacy & Clinton would agree.
They make jeans in every cut imaginable, there is NO need to be rolling jeans. Oh my goodness. I’m all flustered now.

  19. I have been discussing this at link with my friends and on Twitter. It is wrong, wrong, wrong. Somebody needs to tackle her and unroll those jeans. Bodyguards be darned.

  20. First, Oh no she didn’t.
Second, It’s called “tight rolling” not pegging.
Third, I tight rolled me jeans so much in the 7th grade that I’m surprised my feet didn’t fall off due to lack of circulation.
Fourth, I’m not doing it again. No ma’am.

  21. Maybe she is suffering from “I’m-a-mommy-of-a-two-year-old-and-this-is-harder-than-I-thought”! i heard stirrup pants were coming back too.

Check out Bloomingdales website – you can get a pair for a mere $195.00!

I think they were called fads for a reason – meant for just a short time then NEVER again!

  22. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Being short, I thought it was cool back then. Back then. I’ll comment more once my flashback seizure ends.

  23. Thank you for coming out of your self imposed temporary retirement to take care of this Important Business. You are so right: this is just wrong. NO MA’AM, exactly!

  24. It actually looks half decent on her, but on a midget like me (I’m 5’3″) it would NEVAH work!

  25. I think we all need to take up a collection and buy her a mirror….oh, poor thing….

  26. I won’t, I won’t, I won’t!! Not in a box! Not with a fox! Not in a house! Not with a mouse! Not with a moose! Not with Tom Cruise!

I used to have deep dents in my legs when I un-pegged my jeans at night.

  27. I know. I saw it today as I was checking out Brad & Angelina’s twins. I will not wear them. I will not. You cannot make me.

But man, I was good at ’em.

  28. WOW! And NO…No Ma’am! Thank you Boo Mama for addressing such an important issue. I refuse to tight roll my jeans again. My momma was right when she told me how stupid it looked. Though, I do recall a particular summer of going to church campmeeting sporting the best tight roll ever, much to my mother’s dismay. But, please…that was…junior high…oh my…that was 1989. We MUST not let this happen again. We MUST NOT.

  29. Not crazy about those pants, but DANG her hair looks awesome.

  30. Please say it ain’t so…please.

  31. Can you imagine the size of my hips now if I started doing the tight roll again? Um, I’m good with my bell bottoms, thank you so kindly.

  32. Could we also take a moment to notice the Mr. Rogers sweater she’s wearing in picture number 3? I used to borrow my Grandfather’s sweaters and tight-roll my pants…in 8th grade. Man, I must have looked really foolish.

  33. I KNOW!!!! I blogged about it this week too! I don’t understand Hollywood sometimes!

  34. OH. NO. You have got to be kidding me!

  35. Yes, this is bad. Very, very bad. Would you let her know, BooMama?

    Thank you.

  36. ROFL. Oh. my. Are you sure it was 1992? I was thinking it was like 1987…but whatever year it was? Not worth revisiting that fashion faux-pas.

  37. Okay now I will be the first to say…i never got the whole rolling the jeans thing. but I LOVED my guess jeans with the skinny legs with zippers @ the bottom and would GLADLY have some of those again because i hate these damn jeans that are too long to wear with flats or normal tennis shoes and so big I trip on them while trying to carry a squirming toddler.
    steff

  38. nothankyouverymuch.

but I do LOVE her hair.

  39. I could never figure out how to do it the first time around. HOW would I ever do it now? I’m lucky to get a shower!

  40. PLEASE stop the fashion train!!!!!

i want to get off NOW!

  41. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I couldn’t agree more.

I think it’s coming back. I’ve actually seen the teen set in the Pacific Northwest doing it. Lord help us all!

  42. UGGGGGLY! That’s horrible. Glad her cute hairdo distracts from it…sort of.

  43. I used to wear my pants like this in elementary/middle schoold, but I never heard it called “pegged” before. And whatever they decide to call it, it’s still ugly!!

  44. I saw that yesterday and almost died! The 80’s are certainly making a comeback, I was watching a local talkshow and they were showing back to school fashions. They had a v-neck sweater for girls just like we wore! It was bad.

  45. First, the rolled pants are all wrong. She is obviously wearing a straight leg jean. The best rolls come from a tappered (‘pegged’)leg jean.

I’d like to see if she has also pinned her pants first BEFORE rolling.

Come on, Katie. If you’re going to go back in the fashion time machine, you need to do it right.

  46. Oh, for the love of all that is not tapered and hip widening and fingernail breaking. And, I thought skinny jeans were a sign of the end times.

Almost posted about this myself. Cringe.

  47. OK, so now I know that I am not a fashionista! I hope nobody thinks I’m wearing those! YUK!

  48. katelin says:

apparently she’s wearing tom’s jeans too, eh. she can do so much better than that.

  49. I totally agree. But back in the day, I could roll the tightest of tight rolls that wouldn’t come undone if you were in a Category 5 Hurricane.

  50. HERE HERE! I CAN NOT go back to that. I still haven’t recovered from the last time.

  51. Oh my goodness, NO! Been there, done that. What in the world?!

  52. I heard rumors but didn’t believe it til now- doesnt it cut off your circulation to your feet and leave weird marks on your legs? Maybe my tight rolls were too tight!

  53. Saw this on twitter the other day. Oh, NO. Will NOT go there again!

  54. I am in 100% complete agreement with you – so very wrong. But her hair’s cute. You gotta give her that!

Today I actually saw a pair of stirrup pants. I almost died right there. Out of sheer horror.

  55. I should clarify – I saw the stirrup pants in a children’s store. FOR SALE. Not on some lady stuck in the whatever year that was. I have blocked that from my memory.

  56. wha?? i love this look! she looks great! please don’t hate me for lovin the peg :))

  57. Shannon H says:

That is just wrong!!! I like her hair though.

  58. I have already decided I will ONLY roll my acid wash jeans.

  59. Oh, no,no,no,no,no,no,no. I will not be completing that fashion statement!
What is she thinking. Truly this is an experiment by her to see if people will follow her. I will never go there ever again! I agree, I did that to mine in the late 80’s or so, that will not be happening ever. again. EVER.
    Wendy

  60. hahaha. thanks for the laugh. tight rolling…where are her multicolored layered socks to go beneath?

  61. can they just call them what they really are…

    TIGHT ROLLED JEANS

    circa 7th grade

They were bad then and they are still bad now.

  62. DITTO!

  63. It was like 1986-1991 MAX. Nevertheless, NEVER AGAIN :-)
