Samsung Power Foam Sweepstakes

When I was growing up, I loved to watch “The Jetsons.” Everything about it fascinated me. I loved the space travel, the conveyor belts, the bubbles that delivered everyone safely back into the house. Or pod. Or whatever you were supposed to call it.

But more than anything else, I loved the stuff that made Jane’s life easier. Rosie the Robot was always around to pitch in with household chores. Jane could push a button and instantly find herself wearing a new outfit. She could sit in a chair, roll halfway across a room – and within seconds she’d be perfectly coiffed, perfectly made up, perfectly ready to face the day or face lunch or face riding around in her sassy spacemobile.

I’m firmly convinced that Jane had no idea how lucky she was. Because now that I’m older and take care of other people and take care of a house and all that jazz, there are days when I would give anything for a Rosie the Robot to come to my rescue.

Now granted, there are certain chores I don’t mind at all. I love to cook and actually enjoy doing the grocery shopping and meal planning. For me there are few things more relaxing than getting in my kitchen and preparing a (hopefully) tasty supper for my family. I don’t mind cleaning up the kitchen, either. It’s sort of the perfect way to bring closure to the day’s activities, and when I turn on the dishwasher, turn off the kitchen lights and walk toward the den every night, that’s like my personal cue that THE RELAXING, IT BEGINS NOW.

But there are two chores in particular that I don’t enjoy AT ALL. Not even a little bit. And when I heard about the Samsung Power Foam laundry machine (which apparently lets you wash more clothes in less time so that you’re free to do more of the stuff you enjoy), I thought longingly of my own dream appliance.

Because let me tell you: if this particular appliance actually existed? I would pay large sums of CASH AMERICAN MONEY to purchase one.

And what is it, you wonder?

A Laundry-Folder-And-Put-Away-Er.

Oh, yes. It’s a very catchy name.

Here’s the thing. I don’t mind washing clothes. Sometimes I even look forward to washing clothes because, well, I so enjoy the smell of laundry detergent.

(I’m fairly certain that I just overshared.)

(But I do hope you’ll keep reading.)

So the washing of the clothes? Fine. I can get on board with that. And I don’t really mind pulling the clothes out of the washer and throwing them in the dryer since it requires all of 10 to 15 seconds of my time. Provided that the dryer isn’t already full, of course.

But the laundry folding? And putting away? OH I DO NOT ENJOY IT. And if there were a special appliance that could handle all the folding and putting away for me, I think my life would be ever-so-much more pleasant. I’d have extra time every single day – time that I could visit with my family, or go for a walk, or cook a fun new side dish, or sit on my couch and watch re-runs of “The Jetsons.”

Listen. I could even watch “The Jetsons” with my son and simultaneously tell him about the TV shows of yore that we used to watch in ye olden days.

For the time being, I reckon, I’m out of luck as far as the Laundry-Folder-And-Put-Away-Er is concerned. I can always go stand in Best Buy and stare longingly at the new Samsung Power Foam laundry machine and pretend that it could hang up my shirts and put them away after it finished steaming them.

But the next time there are three loads of clothes piled up on the bed in our guest bedroom, I may have to sit down and draw up some plans for the Samsung people. Since they’ve conquered the laundry cleaning, maybe they can conquer the putting away part next.

A girl can dream, y’all.

A girl can dream.

  1. My dream appliance would be one that you could just throw wrinkled clothes on and it would come down and make them perfectly pressed. I hate to iron!!

  2. The laundry-folder thingie

  3. I have a dream and it involves socks.

I’ve always had a thing about socks. Ever since I was a kid, I loved to pad around the house in thick cushy socks, white socks. I also remember how much my mother appreciated this thing I had about socks, white socks, that I wore all over our perfectly clean house; especially every laundry day. (Of course our perfectly clean house = set of busy parents, 3 kids and a dog…you do the math)

Apparently the sock thing has been passed on as some kind of genetic trait.

My 12-going-on-20 year old son has a thing about socks. Only difference is they’re what they call “no show” socks vs. the “crew” socks of my childhood but they still start out white…and he loves to pad around the house in them.
So you’re probably thinking my dream has to do with keeping the socks white.

    Nope.

I have a dream that they actually wind up in the dirty clothes basket. Because, you see, now that we’re 12 going on 20 and have started THE CHANGE our feet sweat. Obviously, this requires us to change our socks several times a day; and of course since all the dirty clothes baskets at our home are invisible to anyone under the age of 20 we usually have a nice crop of stinky sweaty socks decorating our house.

I swear this is a true story. The other day I completely lost it over the socks and issued the ultimate threat “for every pair of socks I find on the floor you lose an hour of video game time” (I know, I’m waiting for CPS to come knocking at the front door).

Fast forward one day, I come in from a long day of work and what do I find? A pair of socks on the KITCHEN COUNTER.
“But mom, you said not to leave them on the floor.”

That was one of those moments I knew, I knew the Lord was with me… because my child lived.

By now you must know my dream.

A fully contained sock cleaner-matcher-dispenser thingy. You can have clean socks whenever you want you just have to insert a dirty pair first.

    I have a dream……

  6. Could a laundry delivery robot be considered an appliance?
Because if so, then there’s my answer; if not, then I might like a washer & dryer combo the size of a refrigerator so everything could be washed and dried in 2 loads a week. Aaaaahhhh…..dare to dream……

  7. Suzanne K says:

My dream time saving appliance would automatically (read, I don’t have to do anything) vaccuum AND dust the whole house! Tada! Done – so awesome!

  27. Carolyn Daley says:

My dream appliance would be very similar to the Samsung Power Foam machine. Laundry takes up a lot of my time! I would love a washer and dryer that not only gets everything done 3X faster in one load, but proceeds to fold and separate clothes. This Samsung Power Foam machine sounds like a blessing, but could definitely be better if it could dry and fold clothes as well =)

  28. I have 2 dream appliances…one to clean the bathrooms (eck) and another to pick up and put my husband’s clothes in the hamper!

  29. Mine would definitely be an outdoor washer/spider killer. We have these gorgeous high windows in our great room that make it a two story room. But from outside they are two and a half stories up, making them impossible to clean! We have tried everything and will have to hire someone to do it. Then the stupid spiders moved on them and bulky webs ALL over them. So now they are dirty AND covered in webs. Ugh.

  30. Heather says:

Vacuum!!! I *HATE* to vacuum…and not like that silly little Roomba thing, really deep down get it all clean and vacuum. And mop, too, but that’s not as important as the vacuuming – ugh!

  31. Brittney says:

It would load my dishwasher and do laundry. :)

  38. Kristen says:

Boomama, you didn’t mention ironing! While the laundry-folder-and-put-away-er sounds totally awesome a Rosie Robot that has a built-in iron would make my day! Ironing is just so tiime-consuming. I do not enjoy it! Also, a bed-stripper-changer machine would be really great!

  82. Like Diane above, I’d LOVE a sheets changing device…especially since both our twins sleep in loft beds…not bunks (where at least ONE is down low…) lofts. Embarrassingly, I tend to let them go unchanged for extraordinarily lengthy periods of time. (Building their immunity by exposure to germs, yes?)

Would also be right keen on getting an errant chin hair plucker that could run of the car lighter socket…as I only tend to spot my resemblance to a billy goat in the rear-view, on my way to work.

    Too much information? ;)
