So, at first glance – and in the dark of night – you might think, Hey, that’s not so bad.

Sure, it’s a little bright, but it might be a little punch of happy when you’re cooking. It might make you smile when you walk in the back door.

It’s cheerful, after all. Such a happy color!
But when the sun comes up? And the light of day hits those cabinets? And you see the contrast between what was and what will be?

That’s when you throw down the paint brush and text the professionals and CRY OUT FOR COLOR SELECTION ASSISTANCE.
Hopefully it won’t be long before we can move past this sad moment in my decorative history.
And by the way, our refrigerator died today. Just quit. Healthy as a horse one minute, dead as a doornail the next.
Quite frankly I think it got a good look at one of those green cabinets and keeled right over. The visual shock was more than it could take.
Needless to say, the rest of our appliances would appreciate your prayers.

LOL!!! Your poor, poor fridge just couldn’t take it!! hahaha :) Oh, thank you, thank you for the good chuckle this evening! (And also… I am sorry to hear that you now need a new fridge.)
And p.s. I kinda love the green (at least in the pics…) it is PUNCHY! :)
ba ha ha!! may your fridge rest in peace..and um I LOVE THE GREEN!!!!!!!!
That first picture isn’t half bad at all, but I must admit I think longterm exposure might make me twitch just a little bit.
That being said, paint color aside, good paint job! Painting cabinets is one of my very least favorite painting endeavors, but you appear to have a knack. Have a great weekend :)
You totally get points for bravery!
I gotta say I like the green. Of course, I’m looking at a snapshot, not the real thing. I hope you find the color that’s perfect for you easily. And may your other appliances hang in there!
Hilarious. And color is so hard, isn’t it? But I am a big fan of going for it with color, so good job trying! ;)
Aloha!
haha, I’m sorry this just made me giggle first thing in the morning. At your expense. I’m sorry :) Prayers for the dishwasher, washer/dryer, disposal and everything else!
You sound like me with color selection. Poor fridge. It’s a hard life, isn’t it?
Hope you find a color that pleases you soon!
Well at the very least you can check that off your “do I want to do this?” list and perhaps get some well deserved rest at night instead of having visions of green run through your mind! As my daddy always said “nothing ventured, nothing gained!” : )
Sorry about your fridge! That is a bummer deluxe!
You may not be happy with the color, but you sure can be proud of your painting skills. Nicely done!
Laughed out loud (not figuratively) about the frig.
Oh Sophie – I am so sorry about the fridge. Hope you can get your kitchen situation figured out soon …
Thanks for sharing the pics! And I promise, my lips are sealed. We will never speak of this again. Sorry about the fridge.
Keep calm and carry on. There are many colors in the rainbow. May your dishwasher, oven, and microwave be forever blessed with long and happy lives.
Okay – so I totally LOVE the green! But its your kitchen and you’re the one who’ll have to live with it. I also LOVE the color you’ve got going on up there above the cabs…May I suggest a lovely blue/gray for the cabs? And so very sorry about the fridge! (btw: what color are your appliances?)
Did your “color guy” suggest putting a brown glaze over the paint? I have yellow kitchen cabinets that were a neon yellow until the glaze was applied. After the glaze went on, the painters rubbed cabinets with a cloth. So they have an “antiqued” look. The glaze tones down the paint.
I love my yellow cabinets! Hope you get yours the color you want!
So glad you shared the photos. Not as bad as I had pictured. Hope you can soon find the color of your dreams. Sorry to hear about your refrigerator – that happened to us a couple years ago (the Sub Zero built-in that came with the house died – not something easy to replace affordably).
Well…. I second the glaze comment. I think it will give the character and the punch you want. Don’t give up on the green yet!
Oh thank you for the pictures, I really wanted to see the green just in case it was really just fine. The thing is, I do like the green but I think you are correct it is just too much for the long term. I love someone brave enough to try something wild. My cabinets are white and white they will stay. My refrigerator depends on it.
Your poor fridge, I think the shock of sunlight on green was just too much! Great job on the cabinets though. I can’t wait to see what you do next!
I’ve giggled through these comments, but for a different reason. This past week I listened to a Big Boo Cast where you and Melanie talk about word abbreviations. Melanie talked about ‘vacay’ and one of you mentioned fridge. Hope we aren’t giving you the shakes over saying fridge too much…Holla ;)
Oh, I’ve been there! I once chose a lovely swatch of grass green for our bathroom. It was the exact color in the design on our gorgeous white patterned guest towels. It was a bold choice. I was trying to say, “We are an exciting, energetic family!”
What it said was, “THIS BATHROOM IS PHOSPHORESCENT THANKS TO THE MARTIANS!”
Seriously, if the light was on in the bathroom at night, the window glowed green outside the house.
And it took 2 coats of primer plus 3 coats of paint to cover it when we moved out, but I still love bold color on the walls.
Thanks for a sympathetic chuckle!
A friend of mine painted her kitchen apple green and it looked fabulous, but I’m afraid if I tried to duplicate the look, I’d end up in the same predicament as you. I do appreciate decor bloggers who give out paint names and numbers.
Been there, done that :) Thankfully paint is an easy fix. Time consuming but easy.
To get your mind off the travesty of apple green, I wanted to share a new bacon-y find with you: BACON JAM! Seriously, I about fell off my chair when I read the title of this post, which comes complete with recipe. So go forth, and enjoy! http://afterdinnerdesign.blogspot.com.ar/2012/07/im-sorry-did-someone-say-bacon-jam.html
You are sooo funny. I am laughing so hard that I have tears streaming down my face.
I’m so glad that you can rise above your color choice fiasco and provide hilarious entertainment for your friends and fans! *If the cabinets were in LIW’s house sans electricity, the apple green would look fantastic! ;-)
Too funny!! Maybe you could use green knobs??
Although I’ve never had an appliance succumb, I have made some similar paint color gaffes. Why does it have to be so hard to pick a color? I’ve learned the hard way to only copy other people’s choices that I’ve actually seen in person in their homes. You have my deepest sympathy. But just think – a brand new fridge!
Your cabinets look beautiful!! We have the same lighting in our house and we love it. I’m so glad you shared this with us.
Oh! That’s would be fine.
