Raindrops On Roses, Whiskers On Kittens, Etc.

If you’ve been reading here longer than about two days, you know that I am a person who gets on “kicks.” I find something I like and then I hold that thing oh-so-tight until burnout sets in or the product is discontinued (whichever comes first). Over the years I’ve been on asparagus kicks, Friday Night Lights kicks, trouser jeans kicks, painting kicks, black bean hummus kicks, and a somewhat unfortunate 30-Day Shred kick that left me unable to sit down without assistance and more than a little bit resentful that Jillian Michaels seemed to feel like she was the boss of me.

In retrospect, however, I probably should have let Jillian continue to bark orders via a DVD. It might have alleviated some of the consequences of my potato chips with French onion dip kick back in 2011.

Yesterday it occurred to me that I haven’t shared any of my kicks in a while, so I thought this was as good a time as any to play catch-up. I trust you understand that I will love all of these things deeply and completely until, you know, I don’t anymore.

Urban Decay Sheer Revolution Lipstick

A Mississippi friend recommended this lipstick on Instagram one day, and since I was in the market for a new summer lipstick (yes. that’s a real thing.), I promptly drove to Sephora and bought me a tube of Sheer Rapture. I really, really like it. It’s sheer-ish but has tons of color and is moisturizing, too.

Newk’s Pesto Chicken Sandwich

This sandwich is beyond delicious. And it probably doesn’t hurt that I’ve also been on a red bell pepper kick (right now a red bell pepper is my favorite of all the vegetables). I love that the chicken is sliced really thin, and the goat cheese is perfection with the pesto. WINNER WINNER PESTO CHICKEN DINNER.

NEEDTOBREATHE Live from The Woods at Fontanel

I realize that I mentioned this a couple of weeks ago, but I’m still listening to it pretty much non-stop. It’s that good. Really, it’s just flat-out special – definitely my favorite live album in a sweet forever.

Crystal Light Strawberry Orange Banana

I’ve lost count of how long I’ve been on this particular kick, but I can tell you that I crave it like crazy when I come home from work every afternoon. And yes, I see “artificial flavor” plastered on the label, but it tastes just like nature to me.

Okay. Maybe not really. But it’s awfully refreshing.

doTERRA Past Tense Essential Oil Blend Roll-On

Screen Shot 2015-05-07 at 8.05.58 PM

I don’t sell essential oils. I don’t even own any besides this one. But oh, how I adore it. I buy Past Tense from my friend LoraLynn, and I use it all the time. I rub it on my temples when I feel a headache coming on. I put it on the back of my neck when I’m stressed (and seriously – who works in a school setting and doesn’t feel a little stressed when May rolls around?), and on a night like tonight, when I’m feeling a good ole summer head cold coming on, I put some at the base of my neck and pretty much transform myself into a walking, talking vaporizer. AS YOU DO.

Artisan Nut Thins – Asiago Cheese

This is a very fine cracker. And while I don’t know much, I know my crackers. This one is super crispy and flavorful, and I believe it will make an excellent addition to your snack cracker collection.

I’d love to hear about some of your recent favorites, too – and have a delightful weekend, everybody!

  2. Cranberry Sage Triscuits. I bought, like, 6 boxes on super clearance at Big Lots!

  3. CSmith says:

I get on kicks like that too, about all sorts of things. Maybe everyone does? Right now my favorite things are: International Delight iced vanilla coffee, I add a little 2% milk and ice and drink it all day, it makes me so happy, especially as it’s already 90 here,
Snapea Crisps, these are baked green pea crisps and they are wonderful, you can add them to salads but I usually just eat the whole bag,
Honest all purpose cleaner, it really does clean everything,
SkinMilk soap, we use the body wash and the bar soap and it is amazing, it smells just like soap should, a little like Dove with vanilla added, everyone from the 3 yr. old up to my husband uses it and we hoard the bar if we start to get low.

    • Merri Jo says:

Snapea crisps aren’t baked–the second ingredient is corn oil & a3 serving bag has EIGHTEEN gm. of fat! Sadly, Veggie Straws which are also yummy, aren’t very diet-friendly either.

      • CSmith says:

I didn’t say they weren’t baked in a heck of a lot of oil, lol. The plain, salted ones have 15 grams of fat for 3 servings versus 35 for chips so I’ve convinced myself they’re practically as healthy as peas right off the vine, don’t challenge my delusions.

    • CS, where do you find SkinMilk soap? We still prefer bar soap for showers and especially a nice softly scented one!

      • CSmith says:

I buy it at Ingles, but I’ve also seen it at Walgreens.

        • Thanks, I saw the body wash at my grocery today, but no bar soap, I will definitely try Walgreens!

  4. I absolutely adore my Clinique “Black Honey” lipstick. Through some sort of alchemy, it looks good on absolutely everyone.

  5. Arnott’s TimTams! Found them at Taget, and I love them so much!!! And I’m very fond of my 24 oz Yeti tumbler.

  6. The Frosted Lemonade at Chick Fil-A. I got one free with the calendar card last month, and I loved it! I just finished sharing one with my daughter tonight!

And eos lip balm. It’s natural with a nice scent, and it lasts me forever.

Speaking of Forever, Forever has been my favorite show this season. I love how the main character has so much character!

I am loving the urban decay naked basics that you reccomended awhile back. Loving the lip stain that Jen Hatmaker wears, but, I’m going to try yours, because, you were right about the eyeshadow. Loving the Sally Hansen gel nail polish, because, cheaper, and you can remove it yourself.. Loving my new mint green purse, and mint green was my least favorite color, but now my phone case, lunch box and purse are all mint green. It’s like I don’t even know who I am. I am envious of your chicken sandwich, we dont have that restaurant here in the Pacific Northwest. We do have coffee, and hipsters and Russell Wilson.

  8. Jessi says:

    Avocados….can’t get enough!!!

  9. Oh, you make me laugh!
I love “kicks”, one of mine is lately is Evolution Fresh Pineapple Coconut water (not like me at all but it’s so refreshing & makes me feel all healthy & stuff).

This is my new favorite (kick) avocado recipe, it is SO good:

Happy Mother’s Day weekend, Ms Sophie!
ps I’m craving Newk’s now, thank you very much. ;)

    Sweet cream coffee creamer!

  11. These: http://www.vinemarket.com/p/blue-diamond-smokehouse-almonds-6-oz-407435

    Blue Diamond Smokehouse Almonds… yes.

  12. Newks– oh, I could eat there every day. You have to try their Newk’s Q sandwich– same chicken, sliced thin, but with white bbq sauce. And I know my white bbq sauces. DELISH. Their shrimp remoulade salad is awesome too.

Just wanted to share the love.

  13. Rachel Holliday says:

Glad I am not the only one constantly listening to the latest Needtobreathe. I can’t get enough of it!!! Hubby, daughter, friend, and I went to see them last week in Dallas. It was only our second time to see them live, but if you haven’t been to one of their concerts, you MUST.

  14. Pat Whitt says:

Sheila G’s Brownie Brittle…yum! Tastes like a brownie with the crunch of a cookie.

  15. Sherry says:

Gelato! Good thing I am doing Zumba 3 times a week! I close my day every evening just about bedtime with about 1/2 cup of this…favorite flavor, caramel sea salt and it has little chocolate thingies in it! I’m hooked!!!

  16. Jeanie says:

Apple-cinnamon bundt cake from the bakery in my supermarket. Also, but not to eat, Olay Age-Defying Body Wash. Super sudsy, and two squirts will wash your whole body! Plus, it smells good.

  17. Dawn McAllister says:

I’m a fan of Burt’s Bees products…specifically the Baby Bee Shampoo and Wash for my little ones–it smells like a baby straight from heaven; also the Almond Milk Beeswax Hand Creme, which we found very healing to our dry, chapped Ohio hands during winter, plus it smells yummy; and last, but not least, the Pink Grapefruit lip balm is my current favorite thing–smooth with such a refreshing scent!

  18. Becky in Waxahachie says:

Frosted lemonade for sure. I’m hooked on Birchbox. It’s like getting a gift every month and it is beauty products after all! Lancaster caramels. Diffusing any essential oil. My favorite right now is Thieves from Young Living Essential oils. Spicy and clean smelling. Last but not least, my 6 month old Exotic Shorthair kitten, Doodlebug. She is a treasure.
