(Mostly) Trivial Things Of (Mostly) No Consequence

1. Tonight I took Alex to football practice in David’s Jeep. The top was off the Jeep because we are in a blessed stretch of pleasant, low-humidity weather (to God be the glory), and by the second stop light my hair looked a little something like this.

I just don’t have good Jeep hair, y’all. I didn’t when I was 14, and I don’t now, and next time I’m totally tying a big scarf around my head like Shirley MacLaine in Terms of Endearment, the end.

2. If my listening habits are any indication, I’m trying to set a record for how many times someone can play this song in a three-day period.

3. This popped up on our DVR the other night. And I mean this in all sincerity, children of the 80s and 90s: IS THERE ANYTHING BETTER IN THE HISTORY OF CINEMA?

I think not.

4. This book right here? Reading it over the course of this summer has been like a balm to me. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Exactly what my heart and soul needed.

5. Nine days, y’all. Nine days.

Thanks for being patient in the midst of our back-to-school / back-to-work / general run-of-the-mill crazy. Hope y’all are having a great week!

  1. Hey Sophie have you been keeping up with Josh Robinson? He’s doing great on my Colts! We got a good one.

  2. Scott Sauls. He was one of our favorite pastors at Redeemer. Good, good stuff. We left NYC, and it’s difficult to find a Sunday morning sermon that can match the level of Tim Keller and his staff.

  3. I LOVE that song!!!
My son in law leads worship at Bayou City Fellowship in Houston and when they sing this song, I can hardly breath!
    No truer words.

  4. Love that movie and watch it everytime it is on. Yeah, only 9 more days! Cannot wait for college football to start! War Eagle!

  5. Will get that book! Nine days is such a long time, hate to wish my life away…but that’s life as a fan. Go SEC…Go MIZZOU!!

  6. Brittney K says:

Our church played Good Good Father back in July and it has moved me so much! It has stayed on repeat with No Longer a Slave!

  7. Susan in Indiana says:

Jeep Hair!!! My husband has a Jeep too and always wants to drive it to church. I’m a fitness instructor so Sundays is usually the only day I really primp! I feel your Jeep hair pain!

  8. Jeeps, convertibles, and just open windows don’t agree with my hair either. That sort of takes the fun out of it too. I may have to watch 16 Candles tonight after my daughter goes to bed. 3 is far too young for it, I think. Some day maybe we’ll laugh over it together, though I imagine it will be for her like when I watched Petticoat Junction on TVLand in high school. She’ll have no concept at all of answering a landline phone or so many other funny parts of it.

  9. Sophie! Are you going to the Never Again is Now event? It is tomorrow and this weekend in your Birmingham! I will be following it from VA, wishing I could go :)

  10. I’m more a breakfast club lady instead of sixteen candles.
I feel you on the hair issues.

  11. Sophie you are just precious

  12. My hair does the same thing in my convertible and our motorcycle! You would think that hair would blow back, smoothly, while riding either vehicle but NOOOOOOOO!!! The hair on the back of my head blows down in my face just like I have really long bangs, or something! AND, it will tangle like you wouldn’t believe!!! So, I wear a hat and/or a visor when we’re riding. It makes for a really odd flip on each side of my head, but fewer tangles……and I can see :)

  13. Tina Thunell says:

I ordered the book, and it was in the mailbox Friday. We are having a rainy windy weekend in the PNW, so I have been read. Enjoying it. Thanks so much for the share.

  14. That song. I love. Praise the Lord, He defines “good” and sets the standard in goodness, love and…everything else. It gives me such peace. Blessings to you on this fine, fine day!
