Linky Interwebby Awesomeness – Catch-Up Edition

Listen. I may be going through a phase where I don’t have “words” or “sentences” to tell “anecdotes” or “stories,” but do you know what I do have?

Links aplenty, my friends.

APLENTY.

1) Apple Pie Bars? Yes, please.

2) This post by Jon is about a week old, but I love his take on grace and forgiveness.

3) I have been disappointed by the new episodes of “Glee” (IT COULD HAVE BEEN SO GREAT AND LO, EVEN FAMILY FRIENDLY), but I have enjoyed the music from the show (on iTunes) like nobody’s business. My current favorite is the Glee cast singing “Somebody To Love” – oh my lands, it is a delight.

4) Several of my friends here in Alabammy have mentioned that they didn’t know about Living Proof Live in Memphis on October 9-10 (not a bad drive from here to there, you know). Anyway, I just checked, and tickets are still available if you’re interested.

5) We’re singing “Desert Song” in choir right now, and it’s a new favorite for me. There’s a story behind the recording of this song that is absolutely incredible – you can hear the story (and the song) right here. I would recommend taking some tissues with you.

6) I couldn’t quit smiling when I read Lora Lynn’s post about “enjoying the moment” with her kids.

7) Shaw-awn’s new blog design is THE AWESOME (I am not jealous I am not jealous I am not jealous).

8) And finally, I’m completely in love with this recipe and I’ve never even made it before. I can’t wait to try it (but no capers for me, thanks – and yes to adding some feta cheese).

This Is A Bargain Alert

Now y’all know that Southern Living and I have had our ups and downs over the last year and a half. But right now we’re totally up. We’re so up, in fact, that I feel giddy when I see a new issue in my mailbox. We’re so up that I once again have four or five issues of Southern Living on my coffee table, even if they don’t fan out nearly as well as they did with the classic stapled binding. But still. I’m letting bygones be bygones.

Well.

This morning I got an email from Erica, who is a faithful blog reader and commenter, and she shared the most exciting news that I absolutely have to pass along to y’all. I think you’ll find this news especially helpful if you and Southern Living have been on a break. Because let me tell you: now is the perfect time to mend those periodical fences.

Here’s why.

Right now on Amazon – until this Saturday, at least – you can get a one-year subscription to Southern Living for FIVE AMERICAN DOLLARS. Five dollars. $5.00.

Look!

I KNOW.

So get to clickin’, people, and get you a subscription.

Thanks, Erica, for the tip!

And thanks, Southern Living, for being so Southern again!

Here’s a spesh-ul Saturday edition of links because, well, I’m bored.

– If you’re a member of Tasty Kitchen, you do not want to miss this contest (it ends at 11pm tonight – hurry!).

– Susanna has come up with what well may be the best book title ever. It makes me so happy.

– I laughed my head off at Jon’s post about quitting your job. And, um, I couldn’t relate to it at all. AHEM.

And last but certainly least:

– I wrote a post about the delights of traveling on I-85 from Charlotte at 5:30 on a Friday afternoon (and the delights of hearing Kay Arthur teach, too) over at the AllAccess blog.

This post by Melissa made me all teary-eyed and thankful. So much sweet truth in such a short amount of space.

– Lora Lynn found the beauty in the mud, and it made me smile. (p.s. – Lora Lynn wrote another great post last week called “Mommy Travel Hacks” – a must-read if you’re planning to travel with small children).

– You know how sometimes you’ll read someone’s idea and wonder why in the world you haven’t thought of that before? Well, that’s exactly what happened when I read about Robin and the water bottles. Oh-so-smart.

Edited to add: I totally forgot to mention that Ree has an incredible new cooking site that’s up and running today. It’s called Tasty Kitchen, and it’s a blast. You can request friends (my username is boomama, just FYI), share recipes, keep an online recipe box and much, much more. You’re going to LURVE it.

In anticipation of the 4th of July, here’s an extra special list-o-links, all guaranteed to make your holiday weekend even more holidayier. Which is TOTALLY a word.

1) Five Guys – I love these hamburgers so much that when I asked a college friend if she had a Five Guys in her town and she said no, I looked at her with great sincerity and said, “Oh, I am so sorry.” Best burger and fries I’ve ever eaten.

And people, I am no stranger to the burger or the fries.

2) “Up” – OH MY WORD I LOVED IT. If I were still in graduate school I’d probably really dig into the symbolism and then write a critical essay or nine, but since I haven’t been in graduate school since the 90s, I’ll just sit here on my blog and say really profound things like OH MY WORD I LOVED IT. You’re welcome.

3) “The Next Food Network Star” – Sometimes it’s difficult to find somebody to root for in these types of shows, especially when people get all cutthroat and catty and whathaveyou. But I really, really like the cast of this season’s “Food Network Star,” and I’m really, really rooting for Debbie, Jamika and Melissa.

And FYI: Bob, one of the judges on the show, has a blog called, well, Bob’s Blog.

(Which makes me think of The Bob Loblaw Law Blog.)

(And if you get the Bob Loblaw reference without having to Google it, you need to know right here and now that we are FRIENDS FOR LIFE.)

4) Pioneer Woman’s Sundried Tomato Pasta Salad – I should probably clarify that I haven’t actually made this recipe, mainly because I know that I’m the only person in this house who would eat it. And while I do love a challenge, I don’t really think that I’m up to the task of singlehandedly taking down a pound of corkscrew pasta with a cup and a half of Parmesan cheese on top. So what I’ve done instead is to look at the recipe about three times a day and then think about how delicious it would be. It’s the late-30s version of sitting around and daydreaming about how awesome it would be if Jake Ryan showed up at your house in his Porsche.

5) Two more recipes I cannot wait to try: Missy’s Bread Pudding (the title of her post made me laugh out loud) and Veronica’s Caramel Buttermilk Cake.

And no kidding, when I just typed the words “caramel buttermilk cake,” I heard the words that have closed many an Anglican prayer in my head: thanks be to God.

Happy Wednesday, y’all!

So I haven’t posted any links in, oh, a couple of weeks? A month? A span of time far too lengthy for someone who used to post links daily?

But it’s summer. And summer’s aa little on the hectic side. A thousand pardons.

Anyway, today I thought I’d share a few. Links ahoy!

– Veronica’s post about when her husband cooked pork chops is really about so much more. Loved it.

Amanda’s post about marriage is a good’un. Oh mercy is it ever.

Jon’s post about a reality show reminded me to climb down off of my soapbox, already.

Lisa sent me this link – and I HOWLED. It would be BEYOND perfect for Martha – she would adore it.

Have a great Monday, y’all!
