Hey, remember last week when Alex had a stomach virus? Remember that?
WELL GUESS WHAT?
This morning he woke up around 1:30. With ANOTHER stomach virus!
WE’RE THE LUCKIEST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD!
Oh, bless his sweet little heart.
And this particular virus has thrown down the gauntlet in terms of the I WILL WEAR YOU OUT WITH THE VOMIT factor. It hit every 10-15 minutes the first hour…then every 30 minutes for the next three hours. At one point Alex looked up at me and said, “Mama, can you please make me feel better?” and I almost went into a full Aurora Greenway right there in the half bath.
But then I remembered that there was no nurses’ station on which I could bang my fists. And no nurses to hear me screaming. So the impulse passed.
However, I’m happy to report that A. is on the upswing, and even though we haven’t had much sleep, it’s nice to see him looking a little less peaked. I, however, look like I’ve been run through a spin cycle, so I’m about to take a nap before Mama and Martha get here (thank you, Lord, for a husband who works from home).
And in case you’re wondering: I have warned the grandmothers that our child has been stricken by the plague, but they are completely undeterred by any talk of a virus. So they will be here around lunchtime and conquering Steinmarts Memorial Day Sale shortly thereafter.
And not to worry: when we get to Steinmarts, I will shadow them and take copious notes. Especially when Martha finds something she likes but they don’t have her size and she asks the manager to call every single store in the entire Southeastern region to see if they have the periwinkle Harve Benard short jacket (with the three-quarter-length sleeve and jeweled buttons that aren’t round but they’re not square, either; they’re sort of a rounded square, a rounded square, and they just sort of floop over on the sides, you know how they sort of floop) in a size 2 petite.
I think I’m starting to understand why the Lord gave me those two hours of quiet yesterday afternoon – obviously He knew that today would hold much vomiting and shopping and flooping. But very little sleeping.
A shower and a power nap are calling my name.

Bless your heart! I am praying fervently that you don’t get the virus. Seriously! My 7th grader gave me his right before Christmas and I think I was begging my dh to cash in on the life insurance and put me out of my misery at one point………just sayin’.
I love Martha. Can we start an “I Love Martha Fan Club”?
I hope Alex get better in a jiffy. And I’m sure he will once his Grandma arrives. They have the magic touch you know.
I’ll take the flooping over the puking any old day.
Cheri has been going throught this same thing with her kids! From the ER last week, and into her office this week. Hang in there moms!
I know those days all to well! We get it usually one by one.. through 5 of us and than the next case sets in!
Hope all is well now!!
Urrgggg…. could be the same virus, sometimes they last up to 2 weeks, coming and going.. If it makes you feel anybetter (which i am sure it wont) my 8 month old is battling a stomach virus too.. It is not fun…
we’ve had round after round after round of stomach viruses in our home…
It’s the only reason I didn’t gain my usual obscene amount of first trimester pregnancy weight this time around (unfortunately, I am making up for it now…)
blessings, and lots of rest sent your way,
Karla
Hope you all get better and you get some rest.
Boomama you just crack me up with that description of Martha calling every Steinmarts in the Southeast…Your family reminds me so much of my own!
Blessings! Kat
Ah, the infamous vomiting marathon. Such fun. I hope he is better for GOOD!
Oh, God love you both!! Sleep tight! Have fun with Oui Oui and Martha! ;-)
xoxo!
You’re too much! I hope you do get some rest in. I wouldn’t want you dropping in the middle of the store right before you found the flooping buttons :-)
Ugh. We’ve had puke fests every year at this time for some reason. Dangit to heck! It ruins a good sale.
I’ve never been to Steinmarts but I’ve seen commercials. THis is something I need to go do on our next trip to Tennessee. I’ve heard they have one there. *drool*
You are the ONLY person who can:
1. Write a post includes VOMIT in the middle of the night, a visit from BOTH GRANDMAS, shopping at STEINMARTS,and ROUNDED SQUARE BUTTONS that FLOOP (are was it the sleeves that floop?)
AND
2. Make it all so FUNNY that not only are we ROFLOL==We want to be in your family so we can be there for all the vomiting, grandma, Steinmart fun!
Girl, you should be writing a sitcom–you have a sure hit with all your bloggin’ friends.
So sorry…we had the same one a month ago…it sorta took a break and then came back! We use activated carbon to help flush out the virus…it seems to help. But it also depletes the good stuff (vitamins and minerals), too. So after he’s feeling better, get him some vitamins and good veggies and fruits!
Have fun with your fam!
Poor thing!!! Glad he’s feeling better.
Hope you got rested up before heading to Steinmart. :)
3 out of 7 of my DC just got over being sick, but it wasn’t a stomach virus, more like sore throat, stuffy nose and slight fever. The scary part was my youngest is less than 2 wks old, thank God it’s almost gone. I pray the stomach flu flies away VERY SOON!
BTW-I’ve reserved the jacket for Martha, she just has to fly to NC to pick it up, and our Steinmarts doesn’t accept American Express.
0:) Amber
Hang in there! I know about days..er…weeks like that.
the virus clearly isn’t in the blogosphere but I have my second load of laundry on and I’m just about to set off upstairs with the carpet cleaner!
Cheers
Oh, I am so sympathetic!! I hate it when the kids get sick. At least during summer vacation we should be bug free except for the flying bugs, that is. Take care and I hope that he gets over it quickly!
I too want to join the ” I Love Martha Fan Club”. Glad your little guy is better.
Oh, poor sweet little dude….hope he’s perky again. And I DO hope it goes out the backdoor never again to return to anyone’s system there in BM’ville…..hmm, that doesn’t sound so great….
So hope you and everyone else enjoys a delightful, perky time with the Mammaws. Shopping, eating, loving–it all sounds so fun!
Oh, yes! A SITCOM!
That’s what we need! A BooMama sitcom!
Seriously.
I have no tolerance for modern day sitcoms (all you Office fans can go ahead and stone me!). But sometimes life is just so serious that I NEED a sitcom! So, please, please, please, forget whatever other writing aspirations you may have had! I don’t need another book to read! I! NEED! A! SITCOM!
OH dear the sickness really is making it’s rounds. hugs!
oh but you still made me laugh. I that is why I am learning to love you!
Bless your little pea-pickin’ heart!! I think I would be a nervous wreck about now, between being up all night with a sick baby, and expecting my mother AND mother-in-law??? Sweetheart, you are in my prayers!! Hope Alex is better soon…Look out Steinmart!! :-)
OK, thank you for the Terms of Endearment reference. Man, that’s an oldie but a goodie.
Bless his heart. Mine had the same bug a few weeks ago- we ended up in the ER for dehydration.
The new Rain Gatorade is great- try it for Alex. The flavor is a litte more mild. We tried Strawberry and it was great. Hope he feels much better soon.
Hope you feel better.
Oh my goodness. Poor kid! Poor mommy! Tell us that he was at least half bath contained. (Well, I’m sure that 1:30 AM brought a bit of a mess.) Sleep well! There is much shopping to be had!
I can’t get enough of your blog!!!!!!!!
I know I’m PROBABLY opening a huge can of worms here, but……..WHAT IS STEINMART?
We are not blessed with one of these anywhere near our home town in upstate NY, but I do get the pleasure/pain of seeing the commercials thanks to cable TV. I like the looks of the clothes, but short of a trip below the Mason-Dixon line, I don’t think one exists up here. More’s the pity…..
Sorry to here about the little man being ill, will say a prayer that it stops with him!
Hey BooMama! I have read your blog from the LPM site. There must be something going down in AL. My daughter, husband, and myself were all sick as a dog! I join you in the toast to puke! It is not fun!!
I have changed every linen in my house in the past three weeks and made 3 trips to the hospital!! :)
Ps they told us it was the GI flu!
“Especially when Martha finds something she likes but they don’t have her size and she asks the manager to call every single store in the entire Southeastern region”… ROFL… does Martha live here in south Georgia, cause I SWEAR my daughter had her as a customer at Belk last week!!!
