I’ve Been Very Busy In Dillon

So my plan was to settle in with the computer tonight and bore you to pieces with details of our weekend. You know, the parts about soccer and pollen and cleaning out closets and the fact that Alex has sneezed 338 times in the last 24 hours, but the fact of the matter is that right now I am knee-deep in season three of “Friday Night Lights,” and all I can think about is Jason Street chasing his dream and Matt Saracen getting to play wide receiver and Smash Williams recovering from his knee injury.

Not to mention the fact that I feel like Tami and Eric Taylor ARE REAL PEOPLE. Seriously. Their marriage is so realistic and so identifiable that I find myself wondering how I can get their number and invite them over for dinner. NEVER YOU MIND THAT THEY DON’T ACTUALLY EXIST.

And don’t even get me started on Tyra. I have such high hopes for her and wish with all my heart that she could figure out that the guy who treats you well and makes you laugh is always the best catch. But again, since Tyra is in fact entirely fictional, my advice will probably fall on deaf ears. Since technically Tyra’s ears are non-existent.

Anyway, I’ll be back later with some mundane details of stuff and things and whatnot. But in the meantime I’m going to stop by the Alamo Freeze. Maybe listen to a little Crucifictorious. Try to make Grandma take her heart medicine. And cheer loudly for Tim Riggins.

Oh, Tim Riggins.

Texas Forever.

Go Panthers.

Amen.

  1. I almost cried tears of joy when the commercial came on tonight proclaiming the return of FNL on May 7th. Cannot wait. I feel like my long-lost friends are coming home!! ;)

  2. Our Family was also having FNL marathons to cram in all 3 seasons before season 4 started.

I have heard my daughter complain MORE THAN ONCE about the premier date being pushed back from the end of April to the beginning of May.

We have one girl that would like to date Matt and the other is a Riggins fan. Heaven help us!!!

  3. Jennifer says:

I am so relieved thet my husband and I are not the only non-teen FNL fans! I have been in the closet about this show! I can’t wait for the new season to begin!

  4. Clear Eyes! Full Hearts! Can’t Lose!

Love, love, love that show! I so wish Tammy and Eric were real people!0

  5. Oh I feel the same way about Tami and Eric. They do feel so real. I was in the other room when I heard his (Eric’s) voice on a commercial last night. I practically killed myself to get to the tv. And was over joyed to see that FNL will return SOON! I’ll be watchin’ some Tim Riggins again. . . oh glorious day!

  6. We are knee deep in Season 3 (for the third time!) so we can be prepared for the return!

    No regrets!!!

  7. We have autographed photos of Tammy and Riggins in our den, like they are part of the family. We’ve already seen season 4…stock up on the kleenex and keep it around the whole season.

  8. i cant wait for season 4..thank you netflix instant que for letting me watch all 3 seasons..im dying to see season 4!

    i heart tim riggins!:)

  9. I just had to say that I don’t know if I’ve ever been more proud that you are my friend.

  10. Best. Show. Ever.

  11. I love this show and I too feel they are “Real” people. I felt silly thinking it, but after reading your story…I don’t fell so silly! :-) Thanks!

  12. Oh man, I don’t need another show to get addicted to, but everybody loves this show so much, I think I’m gonna have to get hooked :)

  13. This post makes me clap my hands in glee! Tim Riggins!!

Every single episode towards the end of Season 3 made me cry. Oh, it’s so good!

You should really go to the Beyond the Lights charity event in Austin next month that Kyle Chandler and Brad Leland put on. All the cast will be there! My friend Kaitlin and I are going!

  14. “Sometimes you gotta ask yourself, WWRD? What would Riggins do?”

(Is it wrong that I have considered having bracelets made that say WWRD?) And when, o when, does the new season come back?!

  15. I rented the first season of that show on DVD and LOVED every minute of it. It’s sooo good! I have to see if I can find the rest of them on DVD, that’s the way to go.

  16. Ok, I have never seen FNL, but my sister loves it and says I would love it…. I am a football coach’s wife!! After reading this post, I am going to get the first 3 season’s for us to watch together!!

  17. Retired in Austin says:

You should live in Dillon, like we do. Then you could stop by the Alamo Freeze (actually a Dairy Queen), or the south Appleby’s, or Frans – or even the Landing Strip. Sometimes you run into Tyra or Riggens.

  18. New season starts on Friday, May 7!!!!!!

BTW, Lila Garrity is now a behavioral therapist on Parenthood….with a different name, of course.

I always got excited when she talked about her college plans of going to VANDERBILT!!! because I am a Vandy fan….please, don’t hate me :)

  19. Oh, how I LOVE FNL!!!! The new season starts in May. It’s a little embarrassing how excited I am! *Tim Riggins is my favorite!

  20. Someone earlier in the comments said best.show.ever. Totally stole what I was gonna say!

At age 56, I’ve seen lots of TV in my time, and FNL would easily make my list of top ten TV shows of all time.

Had not heard that NBC had pushed back the Season 4 opener, bummer.

And, Sophie, the next to the last episode of Season 3 is not only my favorite episode of the series, it just might be my favorite episode of TV ever.

    Clear eyes, Full hearts!

  21. don’t you really want tim riggins to figure it all out and make a better life? but it just seems like he is always his worst enemy. i finished the season already because direct tv plays them early. i miss FNL.

  22. They film it here in Austin, so you see a lot of them downtown sometimes. I want to go up and talk to them like they are real people not characters! It’s my family’s favorite show.

  23. It is real Boomama. I live it.

Every Friday night in the fall, I leave work, go home put on my team’s colors, go eat at JC’s Burger house, head to the game, yell my heart out, and go crazy during play off time.

Yes, I live in Texas. Yes, my hair is real big. No, we do not have a child in the school district. Yes, my husband drives a Ford truck.

  24. I love, love, love that show! I feel you on every single thing you said!

  25. StephanieN says:

    Dear BooMama,
I feel we are BFFs in FNL. A dear friend called last night at 11:30PM – I thought someone had DIED – to tell me the new season starts May 7 on NBC. Couldn’t sleep all night.
And, don’t worry about thinking they are real life people. I remember my grandmother admitting she actually caught herself praying for Patch and Kayla and Roman and Marlena on Days. It must run in my family because I totally want to be Tami and Eric’s neighbor and don’t get me started on Riggins.
    Absolutely CANNOT wait for FNL!

  26. What I really wanna know is…are you coming this weekend? And if you aren’t just don’t tell me. I’m not going to ask R bc I don’t wanna be disappointed. ;)

Carry on with Friday Night Lights. They ARE real people.

  27. Texas Forever!
I love that show! I had to watch this season online becaue I couldn’t wait till this summer when it aired on NBC. Love some Tim Riggins!

  28. I cannot wait for season 4 to start. It has been forever since season 3 ended. I’m having trouble remembering what happened! And I am infatuated with Tim Riggins. I saw Wolverine just because he was in it!

  29. I feel like I’m missing out on something big. I’ve never watched FNL but I’m convince after reading all of the comments that it would totally rock. I’ve never been able to get over seeing Kyle Chandler as Gary in Early Edition.

Maybe I should have a FNL weekend and catch up on DVD.

  30. I totally understand. Not too long ago I stayed up until after 7am watching Seasons 1-3 back to back online.

Count backwards and you can figure out when I had started the night before…

Now I wait with bated breath for the next season to start.

And since you are still on Season 3, I will keep my mouth shut about what is coming up.

    Soon.

Just hold onto your seat, girlfriend!

  31. Oh, I hear ya.

I am soooo excited about season 4 starting on NBC next week!

  32. my friend, Sheri, has been begging me to watch this show forEVER. I need to go rent them I suppose, since I’ve thoroughly perused the On Demand and the internet and can’t find them anywhere to watch…

  33. You will all be impressed with Season Four if you’ve not seen it on DirecTV already.

Some friends and I actually have a podcast dedicated to the show. We’ve had quite a few cast members on for interviews as well. Give us a listen sometime!
