The Big Boo Cast, Episode 21

Melanie and I recorded this one yesterday morning.

Right after I’d consumed two very strong cups of coffee.

So I’m afraid that I’m a little bit WOUND UP, and for that I do apologize.

As usual, this particular podcast is a total hodge podge of topics; we (very! enthusiastically!) go from Southern accents to The Bachelorette to politics to music videos to fashion to memorable Miss Mississippi talents and even more stuff that I can’t remember.

So all that to say: if you enjoy random, WELCOME.

You can click here to listen. Or here. Or, as always, you can subscribe on iTunes if you’re feeling particularly fancy.

  1. Haven’t listened in yet, but I’ve got to say that the two of you – you are spoiling us with all your podcast-iness.

  2. Amy in Italy says:

Makes me wanna watch Miss Mississippi from here!

  3. Melissa H. says:

    Hi Sophie,
I have never commented here before, but I have discovered you from the Big Mama blog. I enjoyed the podcast!
I occasionally watch Rachel Ray, and I am wondering if the word you were looking for this morning was “sammie” which she uses when referring to a sandwich. That one always gets me! I say it to my kids sometimes to annoy them and it works.
Anyway, listening was a lot of fun, I smiled a whole lot. It was a good way to start my day!

  4. Teresa Stout says:

The part I love best is the two of you laughing!!! That is hilarious

  5. It’s like sitting in the room with your girlfriends -thanks!

  6. I just would like you to know that I watched Miss Louisiana last week picking apart those precious ladies like I was the go-to person for the know how on pageant royalty. I am curious to know if Miss Mississippi and Miss Texas work the same way Miss Louisiana does…do you have to be in the pageant atleast 4 or 5 times before you receive the crown? That has always bugged me a little but I am not sure why. My heart skips a beat when a newbie gets in there and captures the crown! I am so tuning in now to Miss Mississippi!

  7. Just read your last posting and brought to mind the little swim-suit I bought for my cousin back in 1962 or 63 while on a visit to Picayune. It said Miss America 19- something, She was only about 2 years old then…almost 51 now. It was so cute!! I’m thinking Mary Ann Mobley? Was that her name?

  8. Hearing about the vests had me cracking up. I had a cow print vest. Seriously? I should have just worn a large bullseye asking for people to make fun of me.

While I was in college, a girl from my college won Miss Tennessee (Stephanie Culberson) and eventually went on to place 3rd in Miss America. There were several Miss America parties the night she was on. If anyone could have heard us offering advice and commentary during the performance, we would have never shown our faces again. Nothing says pageant scrutiny like chips & dip, scorecards, and misplaced sadness/envy that it wasn’t us. Also, when she got a little scandalous after her crowning years, we threw out more than a few bless her hearts. Poor Stephanie.

:) Love Love Love the Podcast!!

  9. Sophie,

I don’t think I could love you and Melanie more! Y’all are so down to earth and funny! I am from SC so I live hearing your accents! I look forward to listening at work on Wednesday’s like you are my good friends!

  10. Yay! I have an hour and a half drive tomorrow to a family reunion so I’m saving it to listen to on the way. Thanks!

  11. I listened to this and your previous podcast on my trip today and loved it!! I wanted to look up the books you mentioned, but now my mind has completely blanked. Maybe sometime in the future you can do a What-You-Would-Read-if-you-were-reading-Summer Reading List! :)
