This Is The Awesome

Every single weekend we DVR the CMT Top 20 Countdown. Normally D fast forwards through the whole thing, stopping only to listen to a new song or a song he really likes. And normally I sit on the couch and say things like “Who’s that?” or “What else do they sing?” or “Did he REALLY just say ‘Shake it for the catfish swimming down deep in the creek?'”

(He really did.)

Anyway, tonight D was blazing through the Top 20 when he saw that there was a special video featuring Martina McBride and Pat Monahan, the lead singer of Train. It was from an episode of Crossroads, and as soon as I heard those two singing together I said, “HOLD ON – I think this may be a good ‘un!”

And oh. Is it ever.

I love it when people who could be totally threatened by each other – in this case, two super-talented singers – make the choice to truly appreciate the other person’s gifts. It’s a great reminder that beautiful things happen when we’re not afraid to step back and let someone else shine.

Happy Wednesday, y’all.

Do you think Martina was a little irritated that not only was Pat wearing the same pants as she was but his *may* have been a smaller size? :-)

That said, that was some darn good singing.

  2. From the waist down, I couldn’t even tell it was two different people! ;)

I’m not a big country fan, so I couldn’t make it through the whole video. However, I agree that collaboration is The Awesome. :)

  3. I love this. I have missed some awesome Crossroads episodes. I must catch up. I also loved when Martina and Pat Benatar did the show. Wow.

P.S. I noticed the shiny black pants thing going on there, too. Too funny.

  4. Brenlin says:

You made my morning by showing me this. Sooooo good. Thanks.

  5. Shake it for the birds, shake it for the bees…..
I have to say that I LOVE that song LOL. I can’t help it. I just can’t help it!
My 6yo LOVES Honeybee by Blake Shelton. I do too, but it’s starting to wear on me.
She wants to listen to it all day long.

    • LOVE Luke Bryan, especially this song! Makes me dance anytime I hear it. I’ve gotten some strange looks in 5:00 traffic, but who cares.

  6. Unfortunately, my daughter LUVS that “shake it” song. Ugghhhhh!

  7. Yes. That was. Awesome.

But, seriously that pants thing-that was freaky.

  8. Crossroads is an awesome show! We have two favorites- Taylor Swift and Def Leppard and Zac Brown Band and Jimmy Buffett.

  9. They both have amazing voices and both have reputations of being genuinely nice people. I love the song and I love how they harmonize together.

  10. I love the unconventional duets!
Here of my favorites, but I am embrassed to say I can’t remember the song title, is on a newer Bon Jovi Album.

Bon Jovi and LeeAnn Rhimes….love that one.

  11. Oh man, I had chills through that whole thing. I could definitely watch it again. SO good!

  12. Total awesomeness. Thanks for sharing!

  13. I love this song! Thank you for sharing.

But yeah, that “shake it” song? I could not BE more disgusted. Lately I’ve been hearing it a lot and I find it really offensive.

They are two of my all-time favs. She is goose-bump city, everytime she sings. Together, they are Thanks for sharing this.

  15. Michele says:

This episode of Crossroads is still on my DVR. I can’t delete it, it’s just magical. The Martina/Pat Benatar episode was, too. Best female voice in country music for sure.

  16. We definitely have the same taste in music. Love this song. I read an interview with Monahan a while back. He sounds like a really nice person. Not hard to look at either. They both have some powerful voices.

  17. That was so good! I love to hear Martina McBride sing. She has the prettiest voice in country music. Me and the kids also love Train. I had not seen that before. It brings memories back of my daughter, Sydney, singing that song in the backseat of the car a few years ago. She loves country music. I can’t wait to show that to her!

  18. I agree with others’ posts. I SHOULDN’T like Luke Bryan’s Shake It song, but I do. It gets so stuck in my head!

  19. WOW! Love her, love him! Thanks for sharing. I’m gonna have to start watching Crossroads.

  20. Martina & Train was the best Crossroads episode EVER, and that says a lot since I love me some Jimmy Buffett and Zac Brown Band. Target is selling this particular episode on DVD. What I would really love, my friends, is if they would release this as a single so I could put it on iTunes so I can look completely ridiculous driving home in the afternoons singing along!

  21. I love how Pat Monahan is completely appreciative of how Martina can belt out those notes. I love Train – I’ve seen them in concert twice – and Martina has one of the best voices in country music. Great episode of Crossroads.

  22. Oh, holler. :)

  23. goose.bumps.

and maybe a few tears :)

  24. My favorite Crossroads episode was Keith Urban & John Mayer!

  25. oh man – thanks for that flash back of the song & what a duet – loved every second – still smiling
