The Big Boo Cast, Episode 48

Melanie and I definitely want to record podcasts more frequently this summer, but even still I’m a little shocked that we managed to put together one last week and one this week, too.

Continue to keep your expectations low, though. It could very well be next April before we get our act together again. We’re gonna try to do better, but it’s always good to keep in mind that we kind of pride ourselves on our consistent inconsistency.

On this podcast we answer more of your questions; we talk about Melanie’s experience with Mr. Pillow, our favorite summertime breakfasts, Melanie’s new couch, and my brief foray into obsessive scrapbooking. We also address Melanie’s Aggie baseball heartache and discuss our commitment issues when it comes to our calendars.

And of course we talk about Sheerlume. However, we fail to mention either Amy Grant or Christy Nockels, so we probably need to pay some sort of podcasting fine.

You can click here to listen. Or here. You can even listen right here on the blog.

Or, as always, you can subscribe on iTunes if you’re feeling particularly fancy.

Just FYI – here’s where you can get more info on the products / places we mention (these aren’t affiliate links – just regular ole links):

Casco Bay Furniture (where Mel got her couch)
Past Tense Essential Oil Blend (what I have used for headaches / stress)
Mr. Pillow
Melanie’s Chicken Cakes Recipe
Newk’s Pesto Chicken Salad sandwich
Washi Tape

Enjoy, y’all.

  1. Sophie, I already posted on Melanie’s blog but didn’t want you to feel left out :)

You forgot to mention the best SEC team headed to Omaha, the Florida Gators! I understand your loyalty to LSU, but you might want to rethink that for this years CWS.

I am than thankful to have the Gators in the CWS because watching will help pass the time as we wait for football season.

  2. YAY! I can’t wait to listen! I was hoping to get in a question before the next podcast, but y’all are too fast for me! : )
    Here’s my question:

It has been clear (from time to time on the blogs) that you all don’t always agree with school requirements/assignments (I still get tickled thinking about Melanie sending Caroline to school with a posterboard/bathing suit that says “this is the only suit that matters”). As moms (especially when your kids were in early elementary) how do you/did you approach this with your kids? Do you let them know you agree the assignment is insane, or do you support the school’s side of things? Somewhere in the middle? My parents seemed to always side with the school. I remember thinking from time to time that I just wanted them agree something was bogus before we got to work on it. But, as a parent, I can totally see my kid telling the teacher my thoughts on it and it having a negative impact on her view of school…..

  3. I laugh out loud every time i hear your opening and closing music. This was a great podcast. I’m following your links to check this stuff out now.

  4. Dear Sophie & Melanie, thank you so much for your blogs and podcasts. I’m a 45 yr old Mum of a 10yr old boy. I live just outside Glasgow in Scotland. I love listening to your podcasts as I do my housework, but most of all when I drive to work. Have been known to drive with tears of laughter pouring down my cheeks. Praise the Lord for mums, keeping it real, and doing the best for whom the Lord has blessed us with. Keep going; you’re fab! Love Katy in Scotland xxx

  5. Katie C. says:

Mom and I went to Newk’s today and she got the pesto chicken salad. People-SOPHIE SPEAKS THE TRUTH! I could have eaten the chicken salad straight out of a bowl. And I am not generally a fan of chicken salad and I have issues with chicken being cold. So for a chicken salad to win me over it has to be, as the kids would say, on fleek.

I actually had to hide the extra toasty Cheez-its in the freezer after I tasted them because I discovered that the extra toasty=no self control.

I think instead of show notes, y’all should provide a podcast bingo card kind of like people will do for awards shows. Boxes would include things like:
    Essential Oils
A famous person’s amazing hair (Christy Nockels, Connie Britton, etc.)
    The SEC
    Hair or makeup products
    Hazel, Mabel or Piper
    “Squeeze some lime on it”
    “Oh, no ma’am”
    A Martha story
    Amy Grant
Big or Boo gets so tickled they can’t speak

I think i would make the podcast even more interactive (you know, past the fact that we’re all talking to you as we listen!)

  6. Just wanted to say how much I love the podcasts! They make my commute to work so much more fun!!
    Keep ’em coming!

  7. Elaine Moore says:

Please don’t change a thing – you two are perfect just as you are. It’s just like sitting around the kitchen table chatting with friends. Love every minute of it — it just ends too soon.

  8. Just wanted to let you know I went to the book store yesterday and bought both “Home Is Where My People Are” and “Nobody’s Cuter Than You”. Then I had the tough decision of deciding which to read first. I have been reading the archives of Melanie’s blog, so I decided to read your book first. I’m in several chapters already and enjoying it so much. Enjoy your summer.

  9. Adrienne says:

So, I’m 31 weeks pregnant and live in California. I made the mistake of clicking through to the Newk’s link and I now NEED one of those sandwiches. And did I mention that I live 2000 miles away from the nearest Newk’s?…

  10. you ladies are a hoot. i’m a life-long minnesotan so i find all of your southern-ness highly entertaining. i think melanie’s pillow is a mypillow? my husband has one and swears by it. i think i’m going to jump on the bandwagon and get one too.

  11. My question is what podcasts do you listen to?
