Laughter & Also A Significant Portion Of Joy

Book #3 has pretty much become an all-consuming mission at this point. That’s partly because it’s due in just a few months so TIME’S A WASTIN’, and it’s also because I really love what I’m writing about. So whenever I find a little window-o-time, I grab the laptop and try to crank out a few paragraphs. That’s not necessarily great for blogging, I know, but I’m enjoying working on this one so much – and I really, really hope y’all will like it.

I hope to have all sorts of fun details in the next couple of months. I just want to make sure that the title’s not going to change before I tell you what it is – and I want to be able to show you the cover, too.

So that’s the latest on that.

Also. A few minutes ago Melanie reminded me about Ryan Adams’ cover / reinterpretation of Taylor Swift’s 1989 album, so now I’m listening to his version of “Out of the Woods.”

I’ll be honest. It’s messing with me a little bit. Because I know all of the words, but I have no idea how (or when) to sing them.

Not that I can really sing while I write, you understand.

But I guess my head is trying to convince the melody that it needs to go in one direction, only Ryan Adams has already taken off towards the southern tip of Iceland.

Or something like that.

Anyway. The whole reason I started this post is because 1) Alex is at football practice and 2) there are several videos that I’ve been meaning to share because THEY MAKE ME HAPPY.

So, in no particular order, here they are.

1. It was a tough weekend to cheer for Alabama’s college football teams.

2. I laughed, I cried, and then I laughed some more.

3. Oh, 80’s. Sometimes I really miss you. And this video specifically makes me miss “Night Tracks” on WTBS, but that may be another memory for another time.

4. Last Thursday? I bet I watched this 14 times.

5. And finally, thanks to my friend Daphne for reminding me that tonight is a very special night indeed.

p.s. Those costumes are glorious.

p.p.s. Those trumpets are even better.

  1. Oh, Sophie! Thanks for sharing those great videos. The 21st night of September! I forgot about that! In 1978/79 I was in 10th grade. Memories of dancing in the Teen Canteen with all my friends. We loved live bands, but DJ night? That was stuff our dancing dreams were made of. We did the Rock to that song. And the Bump! Remember that? I think that was before your time. ;) Whoa, Nellie. I need to stop this mule before I spend the whole day reminiscing. Thanks again!

  2. Oh, Sophie!! Thank you, thank you, thank you. Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Earth Wind & Fire — that is my day and my music!! Love, love, love them; especially Stevie. I have listened to Songs in the Key of Life millions of times. So many memories. And the principal doing the Whip & Nae Nae. That song will be memories for my grandchildren. My grandson spent the weekend with me a couple of weeks ago. We pulled up Silento on You Tube and did the Whip and Nae Nae together. He’s only 6, so I didn’t embarrass him too much yet. Won’t be able to get away with that too much longer. And I’m looking forward to your new book. I need a good fix of laughter and tears. But your blog posts fill in the gaps for that in the meantime. Have a blessed day.

    • Yes! to all that music….Ryan Adams…no…Taylor Swift…no….but the ones in the videos :YES!!!!!

  3. The last two weekends have been hard on the Arkansas fans too…WOO PIG!…but we can claim that principal!

  4. I cannot wait for your new book. You are so funny, humble and a wonderful write. That video from Jimmy Fallon’s show was hysterical. Thanks for sharing :)

  5. HAHAHA, I LOVED the video of Stevie Wonder, forgetting his own lyrics.

Then Jimmy. Oh Jimmy. I love him so. My hubby will tell you Jimmy’s my boyfriend. I want to be his BFF. He’s such a kid. I LOVE how he gets tickled during some of his segments.

On my run yesterday, that September song came on my Amazon Music. I laughed out loud thinking it was the 21st of Sept! Timing people!

    Thanks for the morning smiles!

  6. Stevie Wonder is just a fun guy, isn’t he? :)

These late show guys are just the best yet!

That VP needs to be on Ellen with his love of dance

  7. 1. Football. Ugh. I wish I was seeing you this weekend on the Plains. I hope we can score and maybe not throw a million INT’s. We’ll be hosting Allison Beasley at our tailgate.
    2. We were just talking about “Night Tracks” over the weekend and in Meridian, no less.
    3. Duran Duran is going on tour. Oh my. Reference #2 above.
    4. I had to share “Hello” on my FB page. I couldn’t stop laughing.
    5. I LOVE Earth, Wind & Fire.
    6. I saw your cousin, AL, out with a boy Friday night. I about fell out.
    7. Carol’s daughter is the new Homecoming Queen at Lamar and our very own Addie was a Sophomore Maid. Boy are we getting old.
    8. I got to watch Ole Miss-Alabama with Benji. Highly entertaining to say the least.
    9. War Eagle!

  10. I’m coming down with a cold..and let me tell you, this all made me forget how lousy I feel.
    I laughed so hard.
    Thanks Sophie!

  11. I don’t know where you find all the great videos but thanks for sharing!!
