Dwight Brought Gasoline And Chunks Of Rubber

Now in all honesty tonight’s episode of The Office didn’t have near enough Andy and Angela for my taste. And I got a little nervous when Jim, Dwight and Michael ventured out of the office on a road trip, mainly because I just want for Jim to be BY PAM’S SIDE AT ALL TIMES.

I BREATHE EASIER THAT WAY, THANK YOU.

Not a whole lot happened to move this season’s plot forward – aside from the reappearance of Karen – and I found myself really missing Darryl and Kelly. However, there were several laugh out loud moments, which should really come as no surprise because it is, after all, The Office.

My favorites tonight:

1) Phyllis hitting an endless amount of buttons on the microwave and then complaining that the other microwave smelled like popcorn
2) The Finer Things Club
3) Dwight’s plan to hit the security guard in the eye with jumbo chalk
4) Stanley (OH MY WORD. STANLEY.)
5) Dwight in the backseat. I will not elaborate.

Can’t wait to read yours in the comments. Y’all always bring up stuff I either forgot about or just didn’t notice the first time around, and oh, the joy of knowing that the internets consistently enhance my TV viewing and propel me to staggering new heights of comedic appreciation.

The wide world interweb, it is a wonder.

  1. Loved the finer things club…especially the discussion on “Angela’s Ashes”. My favorite part was Michael telling Karen he could take Tobey instead. Poor tobey.

  2. 1. the wanted ad to replace Stanley
    2. Jim still wearing the fake moustache when talking to Karen
    3. Jim repeatedly telling Dwight – nothing with the eyes man.
    4. Stanley – BLUFFING??

  3. 1. Dwight pulling out his gasoline filled bottle–aka Moltov Cocktail!
    2. The other microwave smells like popcorn
    3. “Aren’t you the one who hit the lady with your car?”
    4. Jim wearing a woman’s uniform “Madge”

  4. Up until recently I had never watched The Office. Then, with your blog posts about The Office, I decided I must see it. I’ve been watching it on Netflix. I’m loving it. I’m part way through season 2. Can’t wait until I’m up to speed.

  5. I want to be in a Finer Things Club!

*”The eyes are the groin of the head.”
*Michael’s phone conversation with the salesman he was trying to poach from the other office
*the liberal use of the walkie talkies to relay unimportant information

  6. Definitely Phyllis with all the button pressing and then complaining that she couldn’t make popcorn in the kitchen microwave because it smelled like popcorn.

I just wanted to smack her!

Where was Angela? More Angela! And Andy.

And Pam and Jim being cute.

Poor Toby. Why does Michael hate him so much!?

  7. 1. Dwight peeing in the back seat: I laughed so hard I wheezed for an entire minute.

    2. Oscar saying the Finer Things Club is the 2nd gayest thing he does.

    3. Jim in the mustache ducking in the car and getting caught by Karen.

I’m still laughing just remembering it.

  8. Is Michael some kind of secret genius?

I really missed Kelly tonight, too!

  9. So I was also mildly freaking out that Jim’s going to Utica would somehow cause friction between he and Pam. And I cannot have friction because I am just a little too excited about their relationship!!!

This was not my most favorite episode, but I was surprised that Stanley was bluffing. But I did like the want ad!

Yes, I could use more Angela as well. Her character is so funny because she is so different in real life (and by real life, I mean in interviews…I havent actually met her).

Oh, and i thought of you today. There is a book written for you: http://tinyurl.com/2ewggp (click on that to get to it). Well, I dont know what the content is….but the title made me think of you.

  10. Definitely Phyllis punching all the buttons on the microwave and not wanting to use the other one, “because it smells like popcorn”.

The Better Things Club and Pam telling Andy he was not invited.

Michael saying he would miss Stanley’s smile.

Andy telling Stanley he was like an uncle to him, “kinda like an Uncle Remus”.

Oh my gosh, Dwight in the back seat peeing in the coke can.

  11. Dwight chucking Jim’s cell phone out the car window.

At the very end, Jim telling The Finer Things club that Angela’s Ashes was a “fun read.” And then Pam mouthing “Sorry” to Oscar and Toby. Cute!

And seriously, why DOES Michael hate Toby so much? I have been watching from the beginning and I can’t remember that Toby has ever done anything to instigate such hatred from Michael . . .

  12. Jim saying Angela’s Ashes was a fun read. “What was fun about it? The twins dying?”

    The main character?
    Angela.
    Ashes.

And in the corner of the screen Pam whispers, “Sorry.”

    LOVED IT.

  13. Dwight peeing in the coke can definitely was the biggest laugh of the evening – although the Uncle Remus comment came in a close second!

But the look on Jim’s face when he realized they had been driving with gasoline in the back end of the car – that was a classic.

  14. I loved how the Finer Things Club had a sign on the door but everyone interrupted them anyway! And Toby in the bow tie…

  15. *Best of the night was Dwight:”The eyes are the groin of the head”
*Karen on being a regional manager at Utica “It’s a pretty sweet gig when your boss isn’t an idiot and your boyfriends not in love with someone else”
Michael to Karen “Listen, if you are going to poach one of my guys, I am going to poach one of yours. Could you transfer me to one of your sales people please… the best one?”
*Michael to Stanley when he gives him the U.S. Mail Tote to pack his things up “Stanley you may go, fly away sweet little bird, fly away and be free”
*Michael trying to write the want ad to replace Stanley
*Jim in the Finer Things Club at the end when asked who the main character of Angela’s Ashes was – “Angela…nope…..the ashes”

  16. Elizabeth says:

I agree with the ones already listed.

I also loved when Michael was making an offer to the sales rep on speaker phone. Pam started to giggle at him, and Michale told her to get out.

I also enjoyed Karen’s bitterness. It was almost not funny. But I still enjoyed it.

  17. I think that Michael hates Toby because Toby puts the kabosh (is that even a word?) on all his craziest plans – inviting the boy scouts to the warehouse party catered by Hooters is just one example – with Michaels classic line of – “Toby – why are you the way you are? There is so much I hate about the things you chose to be”. You can watch all the funniest moments on YouTube. “Jim slaps Dwight” is probably my all time favorite.

  18. I think I love that Jim had never even read the book, he just wanted to be with Pam and to be funny! My husband would not have read that book either…but he would have gone to the club with me :).

  19. Oh, Pam mouthing “sorry” at the end was so perfect! In other words, she and Jim are a “real” couple.

But I LOVED the sounds of Michael and Dwight trying to bring the commercial copier down the stairs! I laughed and laughed! “Oh, my hip” and the three of them in Karen’s office, like little boys in the principle’s office.

  20. I so loved the copier down the stairs sounds too! So hysterical. Jim’s mustache and the shirt with the name “Madge”. LOL

My favorites? The way Jim let Karen know she was no longer part of his life. The way Michael really does love his “family” despite the unconventional ways he goes about managing them.

  21. All I am sayin’ is my husband thinks that major network shows are from the devil. So, I have the show on as I am getting ready for bed. He walks in, then LAUGHS OUT LOUD when Dwight is in the backseat. He then begged the Lord for grace and mercy for watching major network TV and went to sleep.

  22. I think the reason Michael hates Toby is, Michael feels like Toby is there to “tattle” to Corporate when, not if, Michael does something wrong. Toby is the eyes and ears of Corporate “assigned” to the Scranton office.

  23. Oops, I meant to add. Toby is a spy in the camp!

  24. Oscar, “Aside from liking men, The Finer Things Club is the gayest thing about me.”

  25. 1. Michael dictating the want ad, “Wanted: middle-aged black man with sass, big butt, bigger heart.”

    2. The Finer Things Club (pretty close to my own Wednesday Study Club).

    3. Dwight chanting, in the back seat, “U-TI-CA!”

    4. More Dwight, “The eyes are the groin of the head.”

    5. Dwight in the backseat w/his Coke can.

  26. Ky Eliza – very discreet way to mention that Oscar quote! I thought it was funny, too, but didn’t know how to say it. ;)

Thanks for the explanations on why Michael hates Toby. That makes perfect sense! I forgot about the boy scouts and Hooters fiasco. hee hee hee . . .

  27. I loved it when Micheal saw Toby in the bow tie and said “I have no words!”

  28. Oh my! I laugh just as hard at the comments as I do at the show. Dwight peeing in the back seat, and then cutting himself! Gross but funny! Jim hiding from Karen in the car and mouthing “come on dude” to the camera man. LOVE. THIS. SHOW.

  29. Andy trying to bust in to the Finer Things Club.

“Fall back plan: party planning committee. Second backup, Kevin’s band.”

    I’m still dying about the Foot-ball-cream, ap-ple-sauce, Chrys-ler-car.”

  30. This episode was one of my favorites. Stanley is a classic. Money. Money. MONEY.

Dwight in the backseat, though, had us rolling.

Little bit of trivia for you:
The woman who plays Angela went to Baylor University (my sister in law is now an alumni).

  31. I thought the same about Kelly and Darryl.

Finer Things Club (that is going to be huge!)
Stanley and his killer eyelashes, always
    Andy’s club envy

  32. Reading these comments is almost as good as watching the episode the first time. I love remembering all these fun moments!

  33. 1. When Pam mouthed “sorry” at the Finer Things Club.

    2. When Michael tried to promote Tobey to Karen, then said “I can’t do this anymore.”

And I agree, I need Jim in a 15 foot vicinity of Pam.

  34. Here’s a little scoop for you: supposedly, a whole new set of characters will be on later this season to introduce a spin off! All of the Office characters will be staying put though. Whew!

  35. Suzanne, you’re darn right when you say Angela went to Baylor… my alma mater! Apparently she’s a hoot in real life and not at ALL like her character :)
