So. Would Anyone Like To Win An Oreck Vacuum?

Now in fairness I should tell you that I do not personally own an Oreck vacuum cleaner.

But Sister does. And Mama does. And if you were sitting around with all of us at any family gathering, at some point you would get to listen to Sister and Mama talk about the Oreck vacuum cleaner because OH! it’s so light! and OH! it just cleans like you wouldn’t believe! and OH! I don’t know what I ever did without it!

Suffice it to say that they are fans.

In fact, when Oreck contacted me about hosting a giveaway for the internets, I happened to be sitting in Mama and Daddy’s living room. I said, “Hey, Mama – Oreck wants to give away a vacuum on my blog,” and no kidding, she practically jumped out of her chair and said, “Well, you’d be CRAZY if you didn’t!”

I guess it has escaped my mama’s attention that I am crazy, you know, REGARDLESS.

Oh, a mother’s love. It is blind.

Anyway, here’s a little information about the Oreck XL Ultra Vacuum Cleaner:

The Oreck XL Ultra makes cleaning a breeze – the vacuum weighs just 9 lbs. and lays flat to fit under beds and furniture, yet has the suction velocity of a category 2 hurricane to eliminate dust, dander, pet hair, pollen and even dust mites in a snap. A hypo-allergenic filtration system eliminates 99.9% of all allergens as you clean, unlike other bagless vacuums, which spread dirt and dust as you empty the canister. Oreck is so confident in the quality of the Oreck XL Ultra that they offer a 10-year warranty plus 10 annual free tune-ups to ensure that your Oreck will last and last!

And by the way, the Oreck XL retails for $499.95.

So you would probably be excited if you won.

If you’d like to enter this giveaway, here’s what you do:

1. Click here to check out the specifics of the Oreck XL. Please don’t skip this step. Or the internet police will be forced to give you a ticket (all together now: “So get! With it!”).

2. Come back to my blog, leave a comment and tell me which room in your house would benefit the most from a brand-spankin’ new Oreck (only one comment per person, por favor).

3. That’s all!

One little catch: you do have to be a resident of the continental United States in order to be eligible to win.

This giveaway will be open until Tuesday, January 22, 2008. I’ll use Ye Olde Random.org to draw for a winner.

Have fun, y’all!

  1. I so need this for my bedroom first and the baby’s room next.

  2. I NEED a vacuum cleaner. Ours has been broken/half working for several months now and so it would be great to have a nice new one…especially an Oreck with that cool intellishield! Please, please pick me:) All my rooms would benefit, of course, but the living room and office the most.

  3. katieann says:

I read you and BigMama like it’s my job and I love you two, but I’ve never commented and now I almost feel bad that my first comment will be to enter a contest. However, I just moved into a lovely townhouse with a couple sorority sisters and our stairs are in desperate need of a cleaning. Unfortunately our vacuum weighs about 612 pounds…I think you get the idea.

  4. I would absolutely love to win this vacuum. My friend, Emily, has one and talks about it incessantly. Oye vey. Plus, Shannon can hardly ever come to my house b/c she’s allergic to our cat. I wonder if I can vacuum better with one of these so she can visit more?

The room that could use it the most? The upstairs hall where the cat box is. With all those anti-bacterial microbe doo-dads, I think it’s a must-have!

  5. Oh please Ye Olde Random.org pick me! Under the bed in the master bedroom could sure use a good vacuum that reaches!!!

  6. What room wouldn’t benefit?! I guess I would say the nursery, since there are all kinds of stinky things going on in there!

  7. With two dogs and 3 boys, every room needs it but I think the family room would be the happiest to see an Oreck arrive at our home.

  8. Although we have hardwood floors in the kitchen and the dining room, this vacuum would be great for the rugs since those rooms are where our 16-month eats (and throws) his food.

  9. The wide swath of real estate in the living room, dining room, playroom and foyer, through which Al drug the parched, crusty old Christmas tree on his way out to the curb, could use a nice Oreckization. None too fresh and clean anywhere in the house right now, but that might be considered my most problematic problem at the moment.

  10. My den needs vaccumming nearly every day!

  11. My family room could really use a great vacuum ~ soon!

    Mchele

  12. Oh my goodness — it would have to be my bedroom, since it has apparently become EVERYONE’s bedroom! My son drags his toys in there, my baby girl is still there in her cradle, then there’s us, and a dog and a cat. Oh, I would love to see it squeaky-Oreck-clean!

  13. If I have to pick a room it would be my living room. But in all honesty my whole house could use it! We have a wee kitty who leaves her cat hair everywhere! But we love her anyway! Cat hair and all!

Add a husband and a 12 year old tracking in twelve kinds of treasures from the great outdoors. Well you get the picture! :o)

  14. I own an old Oreck which we inherited from my inlaws… it was their old Oreck at the time. But it works like a charm & i’d love to be able to pass this one on to a friend that needs a vacuum! Especially if I had such a fancy one!

  15. Oh my goodness, what room? Definitely the living room and the bedroom…. with a Sheltie living with me, the pet hair is endless!

  16. My gameroom would benfit the most from this wonderful product! My kids love to play school in there, which results in all kinds of little pieces of stuff on the floor!

  17. I just moved and got rid of my old vacuum that smelled like dog hair. Odd really because I don’t own a dog. That is beside the point. My new house has hardwood floors and rugs. So I need a new vacuum.

  18. My wife would love this… and really, so would I as we both do the vacuuming!

  19. My living room is begging for this vacuum!

  20. Simply put-my bedroom needs that vaccum cleaner!

  21. Most definitely – the living room!

  22. Oh I would love to win this! I am still finding pine needles all over the living room and I’m sure those pine needles would love to meet a brand new Oreck! Thanks for the giveaway!

  23. I think either my children’s room or the dining room (I don’t know whose genius idea it was to put CARPET in a dining room) could benefit from a good vacuuming with an odor-inhibiting anti-bacterial vacuum cleaner! As much as my children have been sick lately, I think we need all the anti-bacterial-ness we can get!

  24. Oh how I’d love to win this!

The room that would benefit the most? Hmmm… I think MY bedroom would… it’s the most neglected room in the house!

  25. Woo Hoo! What a great give-a-way! I bought a Hoover two years ago and it is a piece of junk! I think the den would benefit the most…of course, what room in my house doesn’t need to be vacuumed?!

  26. I would LOVE an Oreck! I don’t currently have a vaccuum, but I steal- er, borrow- my moms Oreck whenever she is out of town. I have many, many stairs in my house and only the Oreck is light enough to be carried up and down them! My upstairs hallway is begging to be vaccummed a little more often.

  27. My living room since it also doubles as my playroom, and sometimes it even serves as a dining room when hubs and I have little carpet picnics after bedtime.

  28. Oh, how I’d love this! The one I have now just doesn’t get the job done. The room that needs it most in our house is my son’s. I am sure there are artifacts buried within the fibers of his carpet. :)

  29. Oh what a beautiful machine! Every room would benefit from it especially my bedroom with navy blue carpet where my cat likes to sleep!

  30. The room in my house that would benefit the most would be the room in which boy and his dawg sleep. Either that or any room in which dawg is allowed (that covers the whole house).

  31. Oh my – I would love to have this! My living room would be the beneficiary -it has the highest traffic volume and it is always a mess! I have a Rainbow and I am so weary of filling and emptying the water tank!
    Please pick me!

  32. Why thank you Sophie for this lovely anniversary present! How thoughtful! No really, I have been seeing these on QVC and wondered if they “really” worked, so I would love the chance to vacuum my boys playroom by day/bedroom by night. If I won, vacuuming would know no bounds as it would be in use in their room at least 5 times per day. Those darn goldfish crackers!

  33. I have an anniversary this month too, isn’t 19 years the vacuum?? My living room would love an Oreck, my dog sleeps in there and sheds all over the place..thanks!

  34. My word. Husband has been after me like you wouldn’t believe to buy a vacuum cleaner. The only vacuum we have that currently functions is a little handheld Oreck (which performs beautifully given its limitations) we “inherited” from husband’s Dad–husband’s “wicked” stepsister made off with the full-sized one!

The room in my house that would benefit the most from the Oreck would be the vanity area in my bathroom. Suffice it to say . . . it must have been a man who designed the masterbath in our home . . . because what woman in her right mind would put carpet in the area where one blow dries and brushes and styles and curls her locks? Huh? Could you TELL me that?

  35. This would work perfectly in our nursery! We have a 20 month old daughter, a baby on the way, a 100 lbin-house German Shepherd and a fiesty long haired cat…Can we say pet dander????

  36. I hear you can use the oreck on wood floors as well as carpet so I think I would use it in the kitchen the most. All those crumbs pile up so fast!

  37. Veronica says:

I could sure use that Oreck upstairs and on my carpeted stairs. Our upstairs is carpeted in off white, and of course that is where my medium haired b&w cat likes to sleep. It’s also where he prefers to hack up hairballs. I’m just sayin’……

Anyway, thanks for letting me play!

    Veronica

  38. I have heard wonderful things about Oreck vacuum cleaners and need a new vacuum cleaner as I have an old hand-me-down from my mother-n-law. Not to mention one of my toddler sons is obsessed with vacuum cleaners and carries around a picture of an Oreck vacuum cleaner! My living room would benefit the most since it gets the most traffic.

  39. We just moved to a new-to-us home which has an upstairs room my husband has claimed as his “man cave”. The Oreck’s odor controlling properties would come in handy up there.

  40. First off- how’s your daddy doing?

Suffice to say a new Oreck would be awesome around here, only because the boy, who shall remain nameless, somehow vacuumed up a live ember near the fireplace and burned the inside of our vacuum up right after Christmas. Sigh.

I’ve been looking at new vacuum and coveting an Oreck.

With having to have a “clean room” for dialysis, this would be a Godsend.

    Hugs to you.

  41. I would love it for the living room, where all the traffic goes through. I like how lightweight it is, and the closing of the bag, so dust doesn’t fly around when changing it.

  42. Ooooh, the upstairs would greatly benefit from the addition of this little ditty.

    Hope your daddy’s feelin’ better.

  43. I don’t have a vacuum – every room in my apartment could use it!

  44. from our household pet, Bailey….
“My mamma needs that Oreck…for me of course. I make a big mess and she tries to not complain but sometimes I hear her (loud) whispering. The kitchen and dining room…definitely needs the most help. And just so you know, the children are much messier than me!”

  45. I simply cannot tell you how much I need a new vacuum. But since Random Number Picker can not be influenced by sad sob stories, I will just leave it at. Please pick me. Randomly. Pick me. Please.

  46. My family room is in my basement and would love to get a regular vacuuming. The kids bedrooms are also down there and would benefit.

  47. Without a doubt, our bedroom would most benefit from the Oreck. Our 80 lb Lab sleeps in our room. She sheds year around. Big tumbleweed sized balls of fur. I have no idea where it all comes from. The odor control features would also be handy. Nothing kills a romantic mood like doggy odor.

  48. Sterling says:

I have wanted an Oreck for year!! Our hall (is that a room) needs it badly…everyone tracks dirt through it!!!!

  49. My living room where the baby spends lots of time crawling around on the floor would benefit most.

  50. What a great giveaway! My mom has an Oreck which she just loves. She has a bad back so having such a lightweight vacuum is perfect for her.

Having a dog and cat that shed, my whole house would benefit from this Oreck.

Thank you so much for the opportunity!
    Have a blessed day!
    Cyndi

  51. Truthfully, every room would benefit from it since mine just died!

  52. Seems like an easy question but it is sooo hard to narrow it down! I guess the room that needs it the most right now is my bedroom. We have 2 cats that like to sleep under our bed and it is DISGUSTING under there. Thanks for the chance!

  53. Dawn in NC says:

The question is which room in my house would NOT benefit from a new vac? I’ve been through so many trying to find a good one, I’ve lost count. But if I have to pick one room, my daughter’s room…seems to get a lot of tracked-in stuff. Or the living room…lots of leaves all the time. See? Can’t pick just one!

  54. I can hear the “Oreck man” in my head touting how light the vacuum really is. I imagine a FREE vacuum is even lighter than he thinks! I would vacuum the entire upstairs with a smile on my face (which I don’t think has ever happened previously!) Thanks for the chance!

  55. 250 comments already? Oh my! Add me in please. I think my family room would benefit from the beautiful, shiney piece of technology love. Pick ME!!!!

  56. My basement really needs the Oreck. It is our playroom and we have three boys. Last night they had popcorn in the basement and it is now ground into the carpet! We need it!

  57. Bizzymom says:

The living room – two teenage boys, need I say more.

Guess Daddy is better or you wouldn’t be blogging about the Oreck. Glad he is OK.

  58. Well, since I can’t see the floor in the most of the upstairs rooms right now, I guess the downstairs family room and dining room would benefit most…oh, yes the dining room!

  59. My room of choice would be the bedrooms. Dust bunnies and their progeny are winning the clutter war under the beds.

  60. Living room…needs it!

  61. I do believe EVERY room in my house would benefit from this fancy little vacuum. Especially since I’m fairly certain my two year old has no idea exactly what a vacuum even is.

  62. Would love an Oreck for every room in the house!! Here’s hoping to be the most random number of all!

  63. I need it in my bedroom! That is where my dog sleeps!!

  64. I would love an Oreck to clean up all the spilled milk from sippy cups that aren’t supposed to leak (but do) all over my living room carpet.

  65. Oh pick me! One thing they don’t mention about homeschooling is that you’ll have to vacuum the dining room 5 times a day because the kids are eating every single meal and snack in the house!!!

  66. I don’t think I can pick just one room. I have four children and by current vacuum has seen it’s better days!

  67. Well, which room would NOT benefit? The nasty dining room where my six kids eat like pigs? The bedroom with all the dust bunnies? The hall? DO I NEED TO GO ON? Ok, I’ll pick one: The dining room. I literally vaccuum there at least 2 times a day.

  68. My family room would be the most grateful for an Oreck. 3 kids – 2 dogs…well you get it! Thanks

  69. My basement/office/family room/play room would definitely benefit from this vacuum. It would certainly beat having to lug my big one up and down the stairs. Thanks!

  70. My office/dog’s room…whoever thought it was a good idea to have a black area rug and a light brown dog in the same room… I’d love to win this as currently I have no vacuum and trying to vacuum a whole apartment with a tiny shop vac is not so good for the back.

  71. Stephanie says:

My family room is in dire need of this vacuum! Thanks

  72. My entire upstairs could benefit from this vaccuum! It rarely gets done because my canister vac is so heavy that I hate lugging it up and down. So the downstairs gets cleaned fairly regularly but I often skip the upstairs. Please, sign me up!!!

  73. Um, hello, my whole LIFE could benefit from this vacuum– does that odor shield technology work on PEOPLE? I just got home from a 6 hour field trip to the zoo, with 6 kids, so I’m just sayin’…….

Thanks for the give away, Boo!

  74. I would love to have one of these for my living room and den. With a two-year-old and a lab retriever, the dirtiness just about takes over, and the vacuum filter that I have is just about to tucker out on me. Pick me!! Pick me!!

  75. Ohhhh, what room…. EVERY room!! I have an inwall system, but the carpet attachment does not suck (guess that would mean that it does suck – if I were to use that word!!!) But the biggest need is in my daughter’s room. Hattie – or as we fondly refer to her, Hurricane Hattie – has dark blue carpet and every little thing shows and, believe me, EVERY little thing goes in that room, gets whipped about till it falls apart and falls in fragments onto the carpet where it lies in wait of a vaccuum to sweep it up into linty heaven.
    Please, save me…..
    Becky Jo

  76. There is not a room in my house that could not benefit from a new vaccuum as I have two children under the age of 3 and my current vaccuum is a hand-me-down from my mom. I dream about new vaccuums, but they never come true. Hopefully this will be the answer to my prayers.

  77. I would LOVE to win this vacuum! With two kids and a man in boots constantly tromping in and out, our living room would be a cleaner, nicer, less smelly place with a good vacuum cleaner at hand. That Intellashield thing sounds like just the ticket!

  78. How about every room in the house? That’s the sad truth here at the Dirty Laundry Household.

But in compliance with Instruction #2, I’m gonna go ahead and say that for some reason, MY BEDROOM seems to be the MOST in need of a vacuum, even 5 minutes after I’ve used one.

    Thank you very much.

  79. Leslie George says:

    I have a dog that sheds….’nuff said.
    Thanks!
    L. George

  80. Every room could benefit!!! What a great giveaway!!!! Please pick me!!!

  81. Do I really only get to choose one room in my house? Ok, it’d be the family room. It has nasty rental carpet and it’s where the kids, dogs and cat hang out the most. I can hardly stand to enter the room, much less vacuum so you can imagine the state the carpet is in. Sign me up, please!

  82. Crystal Ward says:

Oh Boomama, just let me tell you. I would love to have the Orek XL my living room needs serious help! I have a three years old daughter, and 2 year old son and a 5 year old Bassett Hound. Between the dog hair and my son’s facination with pouring baby powder all over creation, I need this desperatly. Oh please mister random sorter let my number be the one!!!

  83. Three kids and a dog reside in my home. Do you think one of them could use it since it is so light? I think the steps would benefit since it is hard to vacuum them with a regular, heavy vacuum.

  84. Oh I could use that in the room that holds the kitty litter box!!!

  85. Can we say, my son’s room???? This would be so great! Thanks!

  86. Crystal S Ward says:

Just let me tell you.

  87. Hair…hair….hair everywhere…………..no pets, just my shedding rapunzel-esque tresses!!!!!!!! My husband would be overjoyed to have a vac that removed them from every room in our castle………..but most especially the master bedroom!!!! What a magnificent give-away!

  88. My bathroom sure could use the Orek XL… with all the stress of planning a wedding, my hair is falling out. Perhaps my finance would quit complaining about the cheapie that I bought in college. He is constantly asking if we can register for a new one.

  89. oh how neat! :)

do the stairs count as a room? probably not, eh? well, then my landing? no? okay, well, then i’d love it for my guest room. it’s actually the computer room/guy hang-out room, so it gets a ton of traffic. though i really do think it would rock on the stairs, being so light. i hate dragging my current vacuum up and down those things!

  90. oh my goodness! can i say that again…oh my goodness!!! our old vacuum is literally falling apart piece by piece. every time i take it out of the closet something else falls off of it. i don’t know how it’s still running, but praise God it is. it got a super huge workout from all the showings we had trying to sell our house. anywho, we will be moving into a new house at the end of the month and it’s all carpet. this house was all hardwood so i’m a bit panicky about all the carpet. a vacuum that is in one piece would be a Godsend. i was already eyeing the vacuum giveaway over at “rocks in my dryer” later this week so this will double my chances…not like i ever win anything anyway. :)

  91. Whichever room the black lab is in would benefit the most from my owning an Oreck. I already vaccuum and sweep just about every day – maybe, just maybe, the Oreck will do what it says and clean up the dog hair rather than just push it around the house! I’m begging – please, please, random number picker, please pick me!

  92. What a beautiful vacuum! I could totally benefit from the anti-allergy part of it. My husband and kids has bad asthma and allergies. I think that our stairs (partly carpeted) would get the best use out of this vacuum due to it’s weight. The vacuum I have now is so heavy I hate doing the stairs! Not to mention the dust that my current vacuum gives off – YUCK!

  93. Wow, what a great idea! The room that could use this vacuum the most would be the living/dining room, affecionately known as the “play room”. All sorts of play goes on in there including fort building, pretending, cat terrorizing, wrestling and the occasional soccer game! Could I use this vacuum cleaner? Yes….I believe I could!

  94. Oh, just every room would benefit. Just think 2 babies 2 and under and an 80 pound Lab. We sure love our Lab, but the hair she sheds….it’s unbelievable. We go through a vacum a year, but I hear the Oreck could prevail and last a lifetime!!!

  95. My living room is craving this vacuum cleaner….the carpet would be oh, so thankful!

  96. I think my living room and dining room could benefit from an oreck! I have a 16 month old and a big, furry dog that sheds all over the place :)

  97. Samantha says:

My living room!! And because I live in a New York City apartment, that’s the whole place!

Oh,how I’d love this bright and shiny vacuum!!

  98. The KIDS room! Amen!

  99. The web site made me want to order one today. We just do not have that kind of money at this time. My living room would be the room that would need vacum like this since we are livestock farmers.

    Love and Hugs,
    Joyce

  100. I need all the anti-microbial agents i can get in this house…what with 2 little boys & 2 dogs & annoying allergies…i NEED this vacuum cleaner!

I need it for the most high traffic area in my…my living room. well, and every other carpeted room in my house where bacteria and dust mites abound!!
