Spring Has Sprung And Music Is Good (A Spontaneous Giveaway)

Hey there, internet peoples –

So. I was just thinking. It’s been absolutely gorgeous here in Alabama today, and I am of the firm belief that springtime begs for great music to go with it.

Which made me think of my family’s favorite new musical treasure.

And I thought some of you might like to win one.

I mean, you can’t actually win Dave Barnes.

His family would probably object to that. Since I’m assuming that they enjoy having him around and all.

Anyway, I thought it might be fun to give away five copies of his latest CD, Stories To Tell. Why five? I have no idea. It just sounds right, I guess. It certainly sounds better than giving away four CDs. Four just sounds so, I don’t know, even.

I’ll leave this post open for 24 hours, and when the 24 hours is over. I’ll draw for five (NOT FOUR!) winners.

If you’d like to enter to win, just leave a comment. I don’t even have a prompt or anything. Just say hey. Or tell me your middle name. Or tell me what your parents almost named you but didn’t (I was almost an Isabel, by the way).

Happy Spring, everybody!

p.s. Nobody is sponsoring this giveaway.

p.p.s. Nobody asked me to do this giveaway.

p.p.p.s. Sometimes it’s just fun to share something you love.

p.p.p.p.s. I wish I could also share some fried chicken.

This giveaway is now closed. I’ll notify winners by Wednesday night at the latest!

    Love that Dave Barnes!

  10. The middle name’s Elizabeth. :)

  11. I just wanted to point out that your parents were way ahead of their time with their baby name ideas! I’m sure you know that both Sophie and Isabel are among the most popular baby names these days. Trendsetters, those two!

P.S. Dave Barnes is awesome, and YAY for spring! (But I would like very much if it could transition straight into autumn in a few weeks once the temperatures reach 90+. Spring in Houston I love; summer, not so much.)

  12. If I had been born a boy, my parents were going to name me Christopher Owen…and call me cos…thank goodness I was a little girl!

  13. My parents almost named me Daniel, which would be slightly problematic since I am, you know, a girl and all…

  14. Merri Jo says:

  16. Hey! Love that you said Hey. Did you know Auburn has a “Hey Day”, at leat they did when I went there. We just said “Hey” to everyone we saw that day. Lots of fun! Anyway I love Dave Barnes and would love to win his newest CD!

  17. Keri Always says:

My middle name is Sue. My mom wanted Dawn. My dad said it was too hard to spell. True.

When I was born, the nurse came to my mom’s room to do the birth certificate form. When she asked how to spell my name, my mom pointed to the lotion on the table next to her. True.

  22. I was almost Janna gay! Barf!

  23. Thanks for the opportunity to expand our musical horizons!
I just took dinner to a guy recovering from shoulder surgery…and his name is Dave Barnes! Definitely not the same guy,, though he did have a drum set in his apartment. This one is an Army spouse who looks exactly like one of the McKenzie Brothers (eh?)
My mom wanted to name me Diane.
I discovered that my first name has actually no history before it was invented for the book Peter Pan.
Would you have liked Isabel better? I think Sophie is charming and suits you.

  29. I just got a new laptop and I can’t figure out how to get my iTunes from my old computer onto my new one. So I’ve been listening to the same couple of songs over and over (and over again!) and it would be cool to get something new. BTW, Sophie is a beautiful name. And so is Isabel!

  30. I was almost a Whitney. Til my mama told her cousin (who was also pregnant) what my name was gonna be. Then the cousin had her baby first and named her Whitney. That ticked my mama off. Then I got named after her favorite radio personality’s (I guess that would be a D.J. back in those days) daughter. Then the hospital wouldn’t let her go home unless I had a middle name. That ticked my mama off. Then she just gave me her name as my middle. That’s the story of my name :)

  31. Courtney Sloane says:

I’ve recently found this musical genius you call Dave Barnes, and with that newly found treasure I may have become a fan. I’ve not yet bought this CD, but based on your love for it, I probably should.

  42. I wish you could share some fried chicken too! It’s one of the things I miss most. And it’s one of the things my southern mama couldn’t teach me how to make. Seeing as how she was a TERRIBLE cook. hahaha Except when it came to banana pudding, chocolate pie and peanut butter fudge. The woman knew how to make a good dessert! But anyway, back to the reason for this comment: Would LOVE to win one of the CDs!!!

    Have a great day!

  50. My mom wanted to name me Molly, which would have made me Molly Martin. My dad, however, thinks alliterative names make you sound like a stripper. So I’m Leslie.

  62. Well, my daddy wanted to name me Renee’. But my mother wouldn’t hear of it, because that was the name of a girl he had previously dated. Although, they gave it to me for my middle name. Weird!!!

  63. My middle name is Krista :)

  64. My parents almost named me Maggie and I would love this CD!

  77. Kim Higgins says:

My parents didn’t “almost” name me anything – they had only picked out boy names. In fact, they had not even picked out a girl name when they were on their way to the hospital when my mama was in labor! Since we lived in the metro Atlanta area at the time, Marta buses were a common sight. About the time my mama questioned my daddy about a name “on the off chance this is a girl”, a bus with the destination “Kimberly Ave” passed by. And there you go folks, “Welcome to the world Kimberly Ann.”
