Glory Revealed Live

Last night D. and I GOT A BABYSITTER AND EVERYTHING and went to the Glory Revealed concert. Y’all know that I’m just a wee bit carried away with the whole Glory Revealed project, so I couldn’t wait to hear the music in person.

Plus, you must keep in mind that I used to watch “TRL” on MTV every single afternoon from 1997-2003, so I was slightly giddy about seeing Brian Littrell and, might I add, secretly hoping that he would do a little bit of his Backstreet Boys (oh, they were STREET, yo) choreography from back in the day.

Because I think we can all agree that “I Want It That Way” was, in a word, gold.

Anyway, we didn’t get to the concert until about ten minutes before it started, and when we got to Will Call and opened our ticket envelope, we were surprised to see that we had some sassy VIP stickers. After a few seconds I realized that Brian – the super nice guy at Provident Music who donated all the CD’s for the giveaway last month – was the person behind the “upgrade.” I actually had to ask the ladies at Will Call what the stickers enabled us to do (as you can tell, I am terribly familiar with the inner workings of the music industry), and they explained that we would get to sit in special seating.

Which means, in my book at least, that BRIAN ROCKS FOREVAH AND EVAH.

We did in fact have great seats, and in all honesty it was more than a little surreal to realize that our night on the town was connected, in part, to the blawg. Now granted, blogging has afforded me the opportunity to sample different books and products (Swiffer Carpet Flick, anyone?), but last night was the first time that it’s enabled me to do something fun outside of my home. And all I have to say about that is, HELLO, WALT DISNEY CORPORATION: HAVE I MENTIONED THAT I HAVE A FOUR YEAR OLD WHO ADORES MICKEY MOUSE, SO PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME AT YOUR EARLIEST POSSIBLE CONVENIENCE RE: OUR SUMMER TRAVEL PLANS.

Oh, I kid because I’m cheap.

The concert started with a medley of old hymns, which was a little bit of heaven on earth for me. Even better, it was clear early on that not a single one of the performers was interested in drawing attention to himself or herself (sidenote: Brian Littrell did not dance. But we were in a Baptist church, so this could be part of the reason why. Pure speculation on my part, however). And seriously, there was such humility in the performers’ worship; I mean it as a compliment when I say that they got out of God’s way. I could not tell you who sang what song, but the words have echoed in my mind all day long.

I’ve mentioned before that because the songs on Glory Revealed are taken straight from Scripture, they pack a more powerful punch than some of the other contemporary Christian music floating around out there. The songs also enable me to hide Scripture in my heart, something that I’m trying to be more intentional about doing (God has really been convicting me about my tendency to justify my actions or reactions based on how I feel as opposed to what He says, but that’s probably another post for another time, as I imagine you would like to finish reading this before, you know, autumn arrives).

So, bottom line: last night was uplifting, moving and humbling. Above all, it was worshipful – with every word of every song directed to the One who is worthy of all our praise. And if you live near Ocala, Lakeland, Clearview or Atlanta, I really encourage you to check out the schedule and try to make it to one of the few remaining dates on the Glory Revealed Tour. You will not be disappointed.

Finally, here’s a clip of Candi Pearson-Shelton singing “Glory Revealed,” which is based on Isaiah 40:3-5. This clip isn’t from last night’s performance, but it’ll help you understand why, at the end of the song, I wanted to stand up and shout “AMEN,” but alas my strong Methodist heritage would not allow me to do such a thing. John Wesley would’ve been so proud of my discipline, don’t you think? :-)

If you’re interested in buying the Glory Revealed CD, check out the Family Christian website – quite a deal.

And thus concludes this spring’s Glory Revealed-A-Thon. My only defense is that when I like something, I love to share it – so thanks for indulging me.

Happy Tuesday, everybody!

Various And Sundry

Try to contain your excitement, everyone – IT’S A LIST!

I’m sure your heart is racing with anticipation.

1. A few days ago we had a little Southern show-down in terms of polite ways to decline invitations. If you’ll recall, the whole thing started because my mother-in-law said that she couldn’t come for a visit because she had to take her recently widowed friend Rubena to eat fried catfish at the church.

Y’all came up with some classics in the comments, no doubt about it; and the four people I asked to judge all picked a different winner. As a result, I had to pick based on how many times a person’s name was mentioned in the voting – which means that our winner is Clemntine. So, Miss Clemntine, email me your address, and I’ll order you a copy of this book!

Y’all’s responses were hilarious, by the way – some gen-u-wine bloggity treasure.

2. For a week or so I’ve wanted to recommend a new blog to y’all, but it’s a little outside my normal reading fare because it’s for the menfolk. It’s called My Best Investments, and I think it’s a funny, family-friendly daddy blog. So pass on the link to the men in your life – I really think they’ll get a kick out of it.

3. Don’t forget that Chris at Notes from the Trenches will be having a prize drawing at the end of this week for all the people who donated to the For Heather love offering. If you click here, you’ll see instructions for how you can sign up (if you haven’t already).

4. Today the four year old beat his daddy at Wii bowling for the first time. Which means that there was MUCH! SCREAMING! because OH! HE DID IT! YAY! AND HE! WAS! SO! EXCITED!

5. There was a snake in our backyard this afternoon.

It’s a shame, really, because we have so enjoyed being outside lately, and now we will NEVER LEAVE OUR HOUSE AGAIN.

THEY ARE SO STINKIN’ CUTE AND FLUFFY.

And we figured out today that we have two families using the pond behind our house as homebase; one family has four babies, and the other family has seven babies.

So, I believe that makes for eleven bundles of beautiful feathery smooshiness.

Can you tell I’m just a teensy bit fascinated by them?

And I’ll just go ahead and call it: when the eleven babies fly for the first time, I’ll be face down in the backyard, bawling my ever-livin’ eyes out.

BECAUSE THAT IS TOTALLY HEALTHY AND NORMAL.

Finally, Alex named seven of the babies while we sat in the backyard this afternoon and scrutinized their every move.

Truth be told, he did better than I would have with the names. Because I would have given them names like Fluffy McFeatherson and Smooshy McGeeserson and Softy McHonkerson.

Anyone want to venture a guess as to what Alex’s names are?

Here’s a hint: the names are heavily influenced by cartoon characters and neighborhood grocery establishments.

The mind of a four year old is a marvelous thing, you know.

In Which I Feel Somewhat Out Of Place

Tonight I looked at the Bloggers’ Choice Awards voting for the first time in about a week, and I found two items of interest:

1) Somehow I’m still hanging in there on the front page (the top nine vote-getters are listed on the front page. I’m eighth, or as some like to call it: OUT OF THE RUNNING SAVE A COMPUTER MALFUNCTION).

2) Of the blogs that are in the top nine as I’m writing this, SEVEN of them have little red badges out to the side that say “Adult Content.” Only two do not. I’m one of those two.

I’m a little tickled by that.

Because here’s the thing.

Say you’re a regular reader of even one of the seven “adult content” blogs.

Say your curiosity gets the best of you and you decide to check out the blog toward the bottom of the page, the one that’s called BooMama or somesuch nonsense.

Say that you’re accustomed to lots of, um, “colorful” language in your daily blog reading.

And then, strangely, you find yourself here.

I’m not sure, but I think the following would probably be a fair assessment of how my blog might across to someone whose blog reading is typically along the “adult content” lines:

OHMYWORD MY MERCY I JUST LOVE JESUS, Y’ALL, I LOVE HIM TO PIECES, AND BY THE WAY HAS ANYBODY GOT A GOOD POTATO CASSEROLE RECIPE FOR THE LOVE OF PETE BECAUSE I’M MAKING SOME FRIED CHICKEN AND LAND SAKES ALIVE YOU’LL NEVER BELIEVE IT BUT ONE TIME WE WENT TO THE FISH CAMP WITH MAMA AND IT WAS MORE FUN! JUST MORE FUN! AND I DON’T KNOW IF I’VE EVER MENTIONED IT BUT DO YOU KNOW THAT I THINK CHRIS TOMLIN SINGS SOOO PURTY-LIKE?!

I mean, those poor souls must think they’ve landed smack dab in the middle of some sort of hillbilly revival meeting. With dinner on the grounds to follow.

Which is why, when I was looking at the Blogger’s Choice thing-y, I found myself wishing I had a little warning badge of my own. Just so people would know what they’re getting into if they decide to click over here.

And LOOK! THE INTERNET IS MAGIC! It enables you to create things ON THE COMPUTER! Like warning badges!

warninglabel.jpg

Of course, I can’t actually, you know, use it on the Blogger’s Choice page.

But if I could, I’m sure I’d shoot to the top of the voting.

Provided, of course, that the seven people ahead of me REMOVED THEMSELVES FROM THE COMPETITION.

AHEM.

Land sakes alive.

Look! A Post!

Edited to add: new pictures at the bottom because I AM OBSESSED WITH THE GEESE.

Hello my name is BooMama and you may not know this but I have a blog where I write occasionally.

Very occasionally, if this week is any indication.

But then, you know, this. So who cares if I write or not, really.

Hopefully I’ll have something to say in the next day or so (we have a winner that I’ll be announcing oh-so-soon), but in the meantime, check out the pictures of our newest neighbors.

geese.JPGThere’s a little pond at the back of our house, and we’ve gotten to know the geese pretty well over the last few months. Alex has named them all, and apparently the one he calls Dora and the one he calls Nemo had them some babies. Some sweet, fluffy babies.

This morning I had just fixed a cup of coffee when I spied the whole family out for a morning swim, and suffice it to say that I was immediately smitten.

So the second Alex and I got home from the grocery store, I insisted that we go in search of the baby geese, and we found them just a few yards away from the pond. We didn’t get too close seeing as how I don’t much care for the idea of being attacked by a male goose and all, but we did get close enough to oooh and aaah over our new feathery friends.

geese2.JPGI LOVE THEM.

I want so badly to pet them, but then there’s the pesky matter of the protective father with the snappy beak. Not gonna mess with him.

And then!

Just as were getting ready to come back inside this afternoon, D. spied another family-o-geese to our right.

geese31.JPGIt’s quite the geese-tacular around here, my friends.

Aren’t they the sweetest?

I mean, aside from the fact that their parents will bite your hand right off if you try to mess with their babies.

See y’all in a little bit.

p.s.
We just saw them again, first snuggling with their mama, then heading out for their afternoon swim.

CAN YOU EVEN STAND ALL THE CUTENESS?

(I don’t really have anything else to say, but if I don’t fill up the space beside the pictures then the next blog post’s format gets all out-of-whack, and my OCD side CANNOT ABIDE IT. So I’m just going to fill up some space now with some random bits of information.

I think Joey Fatone should win “Dancing With The Stars” this year. I find him to be delightful. And entertaining.

I felt oddly sad for Sanjaya when he got voted off of AI earlier this week. Trust me when I tell you that no one was more surprised by my reaction than, you know, I was.

I want to paint our guest bedroom this weekend, but D. wants to work in the yard. The color I like for the guest bedroom is called “Clam Chowder,” and really, I’m none too fond of using a paint color named after a savory mollusk soup. I feel that the paint manufacturers of America should know this.

This should just about do it. Obviously there’s going to have to be a little template troubleshooting as I do not believe my posts are necessarily enhanced when I have to add EVEN MORE random bits of information in order to keep the formatting under control. My regular dose of random is plenty, I think.

Have a lovely weekend.)

Well

Edited to add: the link to Heather’s love offering will be active at least until she leaves for the Mayo Clinic on April 25th. You can click here for the post that will take you to PayPal. And click here to see our updated totals!

So.

How does it feel to be the most generous internets in the universe?

Because that’s exactly what y’all are.

I don’t even know how to say “thank you” in a situation like this, but that may have something to do with the fact I’m still too busy shaking my head from side to side to actually write anything coherent.

Nonetheless, THANK YOU. A million times. Over and over.

Also, you need go see Chris at Notes From The Trenches. She’s organizing another prize giveaway – and anyone who has donated to the For Heather love offering is eligible. I’m not sure what all Chris has up her sleeve, but I do know that one of the fabulous prizes is a $150 diaper bag from Cool Mom Picks.

Which, if you think about it, is a whole lot nicer than the hot pile of nothing that I have to offer you. However, I will give you my hot pile of nothing WITH LUV, which of course will make it the most special. gift. evir.

Or not.

Anyhoo.

If you’ve been a part of Heather’s love offering and would like to be eligible for some great prizes, then head over to this post of Chris’ and leave a comment – and that’s all you have to do.

Also: thanks again, everybody.

I am so thankful for each and every one of you.
