Some News And Also Notes

– Thanks to the folks at BlogHer, I’m participating in a campaign with Crystal Light to replace two of my regular beverages with water / Crystal Light for the next three weeks. And I think y’all know what my “regular beverage” is. It starts with “Di” and ends with “ke” and has the letters “et Co” in between.

Anyway, I’m blogging about the whole experience over on my reviews page. For the next three weeks, I’ll update the page daily with the latest news on my progress.

Or as I like to call it: my detox.

– Anne Jackson is a wise, wise woman.

– I have to decided to paint my kitchen cabinets. They’re a lovely 80s two-tone (creme on the cabinet frame, white on the doors), and they’ve seen better days for sure (sidenote: I cannot seem to use the expression “better days” without singing “So take these words / and sing out loud / for everyone / is forgiven now” – just FYI). Anyway, after a couple of months of trying to decide on a color, I finally found my color at Sherwin-Williams. Which was much more enjoyable than when I left my heart in San Francisco.

(WHAT’S WRONG WITH ME?)

(DOES THE CRAZY GET WORSE WHEN YOU DRINK MORE WATER?)

Anyway, if you’ve been reading here for awhile, you know that with me, there’s no frenzy quite like a painting frenzy. So get ready, people, because I’m going to BORE YOU TO PIECES with mundane painting pictures and the accompanying mind-numbing details.

I can hardly wait!

Crystal Light Challenge – Day 2

Tuesday, June 2, 2009

This morning I got home from dropping off my little boy at Vacation Bible School, and even though everything in me was screaming for some ice cold caffeine, I replaced my usual mid-morning diet Coke with Crystal Light lemonade. I was a little bit hesitant, because I really do think I’m more dependent on that 10AM-ish diet Coke than I am on my early morning coffee.

But do you know what? I lived.

Now granted, I missed the fizz a little bit, but the lemonade was totally refreshing – especially on this hot day. I also realized that I was REALLY thirsty and so I had a second glass, something I wouldn’t normally do with diet Coke because I feel a little guilty about the back-to-back mid-morning caffeine consumption.

What about y’all? What’s your go-to drink? Do you think you drink enough water?

Well That Was Refreshing

I’ve taken several bloggy breaks over the last three years, but I don’t think any of them have been more enjoyable than last week’s. OH MY WORD. I went to the library and checked out about twenty books, and I can’t even tell you how many times the little guy and I climbed up on the bed in the guest room and opened our respective books and then read and read and read and read.

And read.

(Hey – anybody have some suggestions for chapter books that would be fun for Alex and me to read together? He’s been bitten by the book worm in a big way, so I’d love to read some great stuff this summer. And if the book is part of a series, all the better.)

In addition to reading All The Books, I also caught up on the last two issues of Southern Living (which, in my humble estimation, is Officially Southern again – I even felt a little giddy when I pulled the May and June issues out of the mailbox), watched Kris Allen sing “Heartless” about fifteen times, recorded a podcast with Melanie and Travis that we’ll never be able to use because I sound like I’m screaming in a tunnel made of tin, had a few a-ha moments about ye olde bloggy bidness and basically just had a whole bunch of laid-back fun with my people.

I also laughed my head off at this:

Do you know what that is? Why, IT IS A TREASURE.

Finally, I’ll be back a little later today with a deeeee-lightful giveaway:

OH YES MA’AM.

Stay tuned!

So Here’s What I’m Thinking

1. This past weekend I read a whole book in two days.

2. This past weekend I cleaned my house and lit candles and fluffed pillows.

3. This past weekend I hung out with my people a whole bunch.

4. This past weekend I barely turned on my computer.

5. And I realized that I need a whole lot more of 1, 2 and 3.

6. And I realized that #4 was a nice change-o-pace.

7. So I’m going to be pretty scarce around ye olde blawge this week.

8. But I’ll still draw for a winner in the Amy Grant giveaway on Wednesday and make sure that gets posted.

9. And obviously I will miss you terribly.

10. See y’all next week!

Dreamy

I don’t know what’s up with me this week, but I have had to FIGHT to get out of bed every single morning. I think I’ve hit that point in the year when I’m Officially Tired of a schedule, and I keep thinking about how wonderful it would be to have about five straight days where I could sleep in and stay in my pajamas all day and read books and snuggle with my people and eat chicken.

By the way, I’m not the only one in our house who is tired of a schedule. This morning Alex was eating breakfast and he said, “Mama? You know what? When school is out, every single day I’m going to wake up and I’m going to sing, ‘What time is it? Summer time! It’s our vacation!'”

And I said, “Really?”

And he said, “Okay. Maybe not. But I’ll THINK it, at least.”

I thought that was a good decision. I love the High School Musical 2 and all, but quite frankly there’s absolutely no way I can listen to that song every single morning unless Zac Efron is going to come over and do the dance routine with the basketball in our foyer.

So anyway, that’s my short-term dream: a few mornings in pajamas with nothing on our schedules. Plenty of time to hang out and veg out and maybe even clean out. And let me tell you: in about two more weeks – when summer vacation starts – that’s exactly what I’m going to do. Along with watching my fair share of Bravo when a certain little person isn’t around.

Are y’all feeling the same way? Like your batteries need to be re-charged? Anybody else craving some pajama days?

Amy Grant “She Colors My Day” Giveaway

I don’t know what it is, but when I look at this picture of Amy Grant, all I can think of are the infamous words of Ross Gellar: “Cutie McPretty.”

And, much to my delight, I have a fab giveaway going on for Mrs. Cutie McPretty over on my giveaways page.

I don’t want to oversell it, but I think it’s safe to say that you don’t want to miss it.

Because the grand prize? Oooooh – it just may be MY FAVORITE PRIZE EVER.

See you there.

(I’m closing comments on this post since you’ll need to leave entry comments on the actual giveaway post.)
